Celebrating with James

In 2010, the Duggars did a family photo shoot that included pictures of their buddy teams. Each of the older girls headed up a team of four, with Jill's consisting of herself, Joy-Anna, Justin, and Jennifer.

Although she is married, Jill still maintains a close relationship with her buddy team, which now includes James instead of Justin. While at a roller skating rink celebrating James' 15th birthday yesterday, the Duggars snapped a picture of James' team, minus Jill, who is still in Central America.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar also treated James to the usual Duggar family birthday treat: a chocolate mess from MarketPlace Grill.

  3. Buddy teams seem like a great way for siblings to help each other out, especially in a large family. But it would be even better to see the older boys not differentiated from the girls so drastically by being left out of heading a team of their own. Boys may grow up to become fathers, who will need parenting skills and knowledge just like girls and mothers would. They also shouldn't receive less or different responsibilities within the family household growing up.

    1. I believe the older boys were never the big buddy to a group because of the situation with Josh when he was younger. Just my opinion.

    2. Great point.

    3. Agreed
Everyone learned how to cook, bake and clean. One thing I have noticed is the family members learn basic auto maintenance too.

    4. I don't think any system of letting older kids be in charge of younger ones is a good idea. That top picture is nice, but...Mother is missing from the group.

    5. Agreed. It should never be the responsibility of siblings to raise siblings. That's should have been JimBob and Michelle exclusively.

    6. As far as the boys heading up a "Buddy team", I VERY CLEARLY recall that Josh, of all people, WAS the head of a buddy team! It was one of the specials, might have been 14 and Pregnant Again, something like that. In the episode, the family was going to stock up the pantry by going grocery shopping. Only a few of the kids were allowed to go. One of the little boys was crying because he had to stay home. The announcer explained that that Josh was the leader of the little brothers buddy team. It then shows Josh come outside and take his little brother back in the house while comforting him. So, don't say the boys NEVER headed a buddy team! Josh was 15 or 16 if I recall! Maybe as the girls got older they didn't do it with the boys anymore, who knows! But, I guarantee you in that episode Josh was definitely portrayed as the head of his team!

  4. He looks so young in the pictures, nothing near 15 years old. Can they bottle & sell that stuff, whatever it is that's keeping him so young??

  5. Justin was never Jills buddy. He's always been Jessas.

  11. That is the way they do it, how come they don't rotate the team members, these divisions and groups in the same family seem strange.

  12. Beautiful countenance James!Happy 16th year ahead!

  13. Why was Justin replaced by James in this buddy team?

  14. It's not fair to Jill and the other older girls, who were children themselves, to be mothers to their brothers and sisters. A woman should only have children that she can mother herself.

  15. Happy Birthday James!! God bless - miss you all sooo much! Really hate not celebrating these events via the show. Happy to have some Duggars with Counting On but really miss 19 Kids! The younger kids and Jim Bob and Michelle are such a big part of the show and now they are rarely seen and we never get to hear from them. Still just shaking my head over TLC pulling 19 Kids just to appease radical haters. WE WANT ALL THE DUGGARS BACK ON TV!!!!!!!!!! Wish TLC cared about conservative Christians viewers as much as they do liberal radicals viewers.

  23. I understand that in this very large family, the services of the older children were required to look after the little ones. Yet, this rubs me the wrong way. Children should be children, not substitute parents.

    1. I agree. It causes problems when the children are older and can and does distort the sibling relationship. Older children are given too much responsibility too young and, young children have too many "parents". My older sister was put in that situation. It took years for us to learn to relate as equals, as sisters.)

The parents are the parents; they should do all of the discipline and parenting. They should think twice what is in the best interests of all their children and limit their size of their family to number they can emotionally, physically and financially handle. Not quantity but quality that matters.
