#TBT: Grandma Duggar Babysits

In honor of #ThrowbackThursday, we have a cute video, filmed more than three years ago, to share with you all. While Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar attend a marriage retreat and the older Duggar girls speak at a birthday party, Grandma Duggar takes care of the younger kids.

"We're just your average kids. We're not the best kids."

  1. For kids who have supposedly been taught to be quiet, be reverent, listen carefully, and obey the first time Michelle speaks, they sure can act wild, can't they?

    1. Michelle only thinks she has her kids trained. The kids have shown everyone differently.

    2. They were acting like children! God bless Grandma Duggar for being such a blessing.

  3. I don't see a lot of respect for Grandma in this clip. James should clean the counter himself and apologize to her.

    1. Shoes on a kitchen counter -- GROSS.

    2. He shouldn't have been on the counter in the first place! He's old enough to know better. How about having a step stool, with so many kids of different heights who supposedly have to help around the house? Don't see one of those handy in the kitchen. But the kids would probably turn that into a jungle gym, too, if they can't control themselves.

    3. Those kids have ALWAYS crawled around on those counters. Remember Josie making pizza, on top of the counter, and licking everything first that she was putting on the pizza? Talk about gross. I'm glad someone cleaned after those shoes were up there, even if it had to be Grandma. The Duggars have cows on their property. You can't exactly walk around in that and then walk on counters where food is prepared.

    4. I saw her cleaning the counter with a dish rag. I didn't see her using Lysol or Clorox wipes or anything like that. Maybe she did, but it was not shown?

    5. What kid doesn't crawl around on counters that's part of growing up

    6. My children NEVER crawled on the counters. Aside from the safety/sanitary issues its just plain inappropriate and disrespectful. It is not part of growing up. My children are not uncontrolled animals. They have manners.

  4. "We are not the best kids." Not the way their parents dressed them alike and lined them up perfectly in age order and paraded them around and even made them perform in public, that's not what we were supposed to believe about this family. Such differences, between the way the kids are presented to us and what really goes on. The kids will admit they're not the best, but the parents never will. That's called living in denial. We've seen the results of that for these children, unfortunately. It does make you worry for them.

  5. In that video, boy could I tell Jason and jessa are siblings! More like her mini me. Right down to the facial expressions and way they talk. It is uncanny. Josie is a doll with that guitar. I hope she becomes a famous musician!

    1. Yeah, Jessa and Jason both take after Michelle! Just like Jinger, Josiah, one of the twin boys, Jordyn and Josie.

    2. I thought the EXACT same thing!!! Spitting image of his older sister Jessa--and acts like her too. :)

  6. She sure stays calm.

    1. Wouldn't you stay calm, too, if you were being filmed for everyone to see? Not exactly the time to pitch a fit.

    2. Actually, she comes across as genuine to me.

  7. Miss Grandma Duggar so much!! Just do not understand why TLC changed a wonderful successful show. Well I guess I do understand - to appease the radicals who hate the Duggars because of their Christian beliefs. Really want ALL the Duggars back on the show. Grandma Duggar has such a sweet and gentle spirit and is missed by we viewers.

    1. I guess you didn't follow what happened last year: multiple scandals concerning Josh Duggar surfaced, including him molesting his sisters as a teenager, being addicted to pornography and cheating on his wife for a couple of years.

    2. I do not think that people are critical of the Duggars because they are Christian, per se. The basic tenet of Christian faith is that Jesus Christ is our Savior. It's a very narrow-minded person who will hate for that alone. But within the faith there are a wide range of ideas as to how Christians choose to live daily life. If anything, people disagree with the most conservative beliefs that the Duggars have, some of which aren't based on any Christian principles that I am aware of - such as women not cutting their hair. If people are disgusted with the Duggars, it is most likely because they pick and choose what to believe, setting themselves up as the judge and jury of the faith.

    3. Betty, do you really want Josh to return? Now?

    4. I don't think the Duggars have set themselves up as judge and jury of the faith. The Duggars have always stated that their hair and modesty standards are their own. These may be IBLP beliefs they are following, but they've never said these standards must be followed by anyone to be a Christian.

    5. No. I meant the critics have set themselves as judge and jury of the Duggars.

      Delete
    6. Well, the public IS ultimately the judge of what is on tv and what not.

      Delete
    7. Oh, thanks for explaining.

      Delete
    8. There are a lot of people who think they are judging and or being the judge and the jury even though people themselves have been through this without it being public and doing the same as Michelle and Jim Bob we never just love one child it's all people are rude to the Duggars because they are public they need to keep their dirty comments to themselves you can only do the best I'm only expect the best from your children thank you for never saying you're perfect and that is what a lot of people try to say your real as real can be such a beautiful family God looks upon everyone and there for everyone as well

  8. Grandma Mary is so cool!!

  9. Really? I take offense with your statement that it's because of their Christian beliefs. I too am a Christian but everything that happens to any one of us is NOT about our faith. Add to the fact that they are made their family public( no one forced them and they take money for it) and you have opened yourself to public opinion. Let us also remember that when people voice those opinions it is their right- doesn't mean they are haters. I truly have had enough of people who wear the Christianity badge and think this makes them immune to everything the rest of the population endures. Something to think about.

    3. Excellent post! I agree with you completely. I'm a Christian and I disagree with a lot of what the Duggars say and do. That doesn't make me a hater. I'm just using my right to have my opinion, just like the person whose opinion differs from mine.

    4. Totally agree. Someone who has a different opinion is not necessarily a "hater".

    5. Very well said!!!

  10. Bless you Grandma Duggar! Even though they can play us out there is nothing I enjoy more than spending time with kids, my own and others. Thank-you Jesus for children. If TLC ever put the Duggars back on as 19 Kids and counting I will be the first to sign up for their channel again. Miss you Duggars! 15. What's this? Children standing on the kitchen counter with their shoes? That young man should have been made to clean the counter himself and apologize to his grandmother for creating extra work. Why aren't those children told to go play outside and stay out? They use their home like a gymnasium--bicycles, scooters, slides, balls. Play outside and get some fresh air and sunshine!

    1. Glad to see someone else does not like children running around indoors instead of outside! Accidents can and do happen. My brother almost lost his life because we disobeyed our parents about not running in the house. He ran through a glass door and fell and was caught on the jagged glass that was still intact; we were playing chase. He has ugly huge scars. I wish parents would not let their children run wild inside.
