No Longer a Tomboy

"I was definitely a tomboy back in the day, always hanging out with my brothers, but now I'm kind of getting out of that stage and trying to grow out of that." (Joy-Anna Duggar)

Joy, who celebrated her 18th birthday in October, is the only girl in the midst of eight boys. Will that make it difficult for potential suitors? Find out in the video below! (Be sure to tune in to TLC tonight at 9pm ET/8pm CT for a new episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On.)

    1. Probably the same things anyone wants out of life. Why? What have you done with your life?

    4. That was a very passive aggressive question! Joy has probably done more with her life in one week than you have done with yours in your lifetime!

  2. Love Joy-Anna. It's special to grow up and be really close to your brothers. I know from experience :)

  3. Nothing wrong with being a "tomboy" your whole life. I hope she isn't feeling pressured to change to fit the Duggar woman mold.

    1. Agreed!! Seems she's being forced. I was always a tomboy growing up. Still met a man, married when I was ready, and gave birth to four children. They need to stop pushing it.

  4. Why is she purposely trying to grow out of tomboy stage? It's okay to stay a tomboy, if that's what she naturally is.

  5. How is being a tom-boy a bad thing one needs to outgrow? I think of it as being strong, independent, energetic and someone who enjoys a challenge. Nothing wrong with those qualities, Joy....embrace them into womanhood! God made you that way!

  6. Joy anna is a beautiful girl. I hope she relizes there is more to life than getting married and having babies!!! Please know God expects more out of woman. Being a wife and mother is not all a woman can and should be!!

  7. Good question. I also wonder what she'd like for her own life. I still think of her as that little girl who ran around with her brothers.

    1. Then why haven't these "hundreds" of businesses stepped up and bought air time? Once again last night, the show was mostly TLC's own programming as commercials.

    1. Well if you want to do that to your arteries, look up "Oreo cookie balls." The recipe is all over the place already. It's just chopped up Oreos and cream cheese. Looked like Sierra might have thrown in some powdered sugar, too.

    2. It's okay to have a treat now and again. the best part of cooking is having fun with it and trying something new every once in awhile.

  10. Joy, there is nothing wrong with being a tomboy! Please don't change because you feel like others have placed different expectations on you. You can still be a strong, tenacious, confidant, and exuberant young lady and still posses the grace and class of elegance. AND whenever the day comes that you choose to be a wife and mother, being a tomboy is a great asset to have especially if you have sons! Daughters will reap the benifit also be seeing your shining example that girls don't have to fit stereo types!!!! So joy, please remain true to yourself. Don't let your spunk and sparkle fade away behind the face of young adulthood!!!

  11. Do you Joy even if that's a tomboy for the rest of your life.

  12. Jana staying single is a blessing to her younger sisters, because they see this example as well as the example of getting married. I know Jana may soon meet her match but she has provided the example of waiting for a right match. It is not all just anxiously marrying because that is the thing to do.

  14. "Trying to grow out of it"? It's very unfortunate that she feels a pressure to change her personality and interests to something deemed more acceptable. Her manner suggests she doesn't want to change, and she shouldn't. The Duggars need a lesson in feminism.

    1. I loved Joy as the tom boy of the bunch. She is beautiful. No make up and perfect hair to make her gorgeous. My favorite Duggar in fact, because of her not being afraid to be herself and all that confidence. Don't ever feel pressured to change Joy. You are perfect.

    2. I'm not a feminist but I didn't like that she said she's trying to grow out of being a "tomboy" either! But how she said "we'll see" it seems as if she's not making a full transition anytime soon. I think its something that gradually happens.

    3. she is mine too! she is refreshing and I think that's why I like her so much.

  15. I sure wish the Duggars would do something interesting for a change. Ive watched this show for years but honestly its getting really boring now.

  16. Maybe Joy really wants to start enjoying her womanhood/adulthood and leave the Tomboy years to happy memories. Why do fans want to tell any of them what to do?
