Wishing Jessa Lauren (Duggar) Seewald a blessed 23rd birthday! Baby Seewald is three days overdue, so perhaps he or she will end up sharing a birthday with Mommy.

  5. Happy birthday Jessa, but if you're afraid of a big baby, perhaps you should go to a real physician and have them "measure" for the sizes of yourself and the baby. A trained MD/OBGYN would know if this child is already too large for you to deliver without medical intervention...ie, a HOSPITAL.

    1. Can we not start this debate again? Jessa and Ben will make their own choices.

    2. Not everyone makes life decisions based on others approval. Thank God.
      God bless you, Jessa =)

    3. Seriously? I've had 5 going on 6 children and with my first the trained doctors in the hospital tried to tell me that my baby was going to be over 10lbs. She was 7lbs11oz. They tried again with my second and were again off by a huge margin. My third pregnancy was twins, and the doctors worked themselves into absolute hysterics with the idea that one of the twins was 2lbs14oz less than the other by their measurements. Only when they were born a week later they weighed the exact same. 6lbs3oz. With #5 my midwife guessed based off of feeling and the sizes of my other babies. She was only off by 2oz!

So please, do go on about how we need a hospital to tell us how big our babies are as a basis for whether or not our bodies can handle it.

  13. Happy happy Birthday Jessa!

I predict you will be having a baby girl. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I carried her out front...all out front. I delivered her a week late and she was 9 lbs 14 oz. I wasn't able to avail myself of a midwife, but I know that midwives are required to have lots of training especially as they need to transfer patients to the hospital. They are certainly able to measure a baby externally. The ultrasound I had a couple of days before underestimated the size of my daughter by over a pound!. By and large, midwives used to do most deliveries. Now we have the advantage of doctors and hospitals when birthing becomes dangerous for the mother and/or baby.

  14. My mom's first three children were born between 10-14 days late and she, thankfully never had to go to the hospital.
It's like me pointing out all of the things that I think are wrong about apple pie and everything that may have gone wrong in past apple pies, that have been made but still refusing to try it. The point is you should not be hating something that you have not even tried or done any research on. Besides who says that midwives are not trained physician's?
If Ben and Jessa choose to take the home birth route then good for them, it should be the parents decision. I assume you are not a parent therefore should have no say in this matter.

  26. I can't blame #5. I felt much more confident delivering in a hospital with a doctor than I'm sure I would have felt delivering on a toilet or in a bathtub or on my bed at home with a midwife. Different strokes...

  27. Happy birthday to you, I hope your baby gives yourself and Ben all the joy you both deserve. Enjoy every day, take lots of pictures and make your memories your own. Babies don't stay babies for long, cherish your family, your baby, your husband, but mostly yourself. Enough advise, have a wonderfully awesome day

  54. Anonymous #17: No, midwives are NOT professionally trained PHYSICIANS..then why do we have physicians in the first place, and why do they deliver babies if they aren't needed?
Also, YES, I am a mother and have gone through labor and delivery more than once. Having experienced, even an easier labor and delivery, I would NEVER opt for a home birth without having that backup equipment and medically trained personnel "just in case"...because it isn't about ME, it's about putting the welfare and best interest of my baby FIRST AND FOREMOST. That's why.
