Seewalds Plan a Home Birth

Jessa Seewald at 34 weeks, 2 days

Jessa Seewald, who is 35 weeks pregnant with her first child, told us that she and Ben are hoping to have a home birth. They currently reside in the two bedroom house where Josh and Anna Duggar lived for nearly four years--before moving to Washington DC--and delivered their first two children, Mackynzie and Michael.

Our plan is to have a home birth. We have lots of relatives and friends who have had wonderful experiences with giving birth at home, and we are excited and hopeful that our experience will be the same. But we also realize that sometimes (as in Jill’s case) a transfer to the hospital may be necessary, and our birth plan definitely includes a plan B.

  5. Mackynzie and Michael are Josh and Anna's first two children who were born in the home. Marcus was born at a Birth Center via bath tub.

    2. How can y'all tell the gender just by her stomach?

      Delete
    3. If you carry high it's a girl, low it's a boy and I've always known it to be true. It was when I was carrying my son.

      Delete
    4. That's funny because I've always known it to be true that it's the opposite! High for boy, low for girl. Anyhoo...I think it's a boy since her face isn't very swollen which I think happens more with a boy than girl. Only time will tell

    5. Boy or girl doesn't matter, only healthy matters.midwife as a sister you will be fine.when they grow into fine young people to be proud of gender doesn't matter.

  20. Jessa and Ben, once again Congratulations! I pray a safe a quick birth for you and baby... (girl, I think). And I pray peace and patience for Ben. There are so many emotions that can arise during a birth but the most important is working together, and I pray God would Bless these last week's together before the baby comes. I'm sure you've heard this plenty but please get your sleep now, unfortunately many restless nights ahead. But Cherish every moment, they grow so quickly! God Bless your Family!

  21. Lucky guess for those who say they know gender bc I've seen many pregnancies and there is no possible way to tell other than sonogram. Girls and boys mix signs. 50% chance your lucky guess is right though. Mom of 4 girls, grandma of 4 Grandsons and 2 granddaughters, Aunt, great aunt, etc.

  41. So exciting!!! just remember one thing, the baby never follows the plan! I can't wait!

  42. Its definitely a girl

  43. Jessa is carrying high because of her body shape and the fact that this is her first pregnancy. How can the gender of the baby influence where it sits in Jessa's belly?

  44. Can someone please tell me what the meaning of the word Rafflecopter means? I didn't get an answer when I asked before. To me it sounds like the combination of raffle and helicopter..? Thank you for responding to this question!

  45. Why do the Duggars like home births so much? I can't wait to see the baby! I predict it will be a girl. :)

    1. Because homebirths are the cheapest way to have a baby. Hospital births are a lot more expensive. Since they are mostly self-employed they probably have to pay for most if not all healthcare costs themselves instead of being covered by insurance.

  46. I hope it is a girl because then Jim Bob & Michelle will have 3 granddaughter & 3 grandsons.

  54. Laramie Jaymes for a girl or Lawson Luke for a boy

  55. I think Jessa and Ben are going to have a baby boy.

  56. A lot of us think that you carry a girl higher than a boy. If you can tell that someone is pregnant from the back, it is a girl. Boys present themselves lower in the pelvis. From behind, you can't tell the mom-to-be is pregnant, and she has a waist line from the back. It is harder to tell on a short gal, because she doesn't have a high and a low. Of course, this isn't perfect! ;-)

    1. Unless the mom to be has gaine a lot of weight from over eating and what not. Then no matter what they look pregnant from the back as well

    2. I think it's all a guess on how they carrie. I have 7 kids 4 boys and 3 girls and I looked the same for each one. It's all old wise tails but fun none the less. Jessa and Ben super happy for you both. Your going to do great. God is so good.

  60. Hope you have a safe and speedy delivery. Miss the show and wish that TLC would bring your family back to TV land. We all make mistakes, no one is perfect, even the exec's of TLC.

  61. As for telling the gender by the way Jessa carries, mostly just old wives' tales that keep us excited women buzzing throughout the pregnancy. There is really no scientific basis to any of these, but they make for some interesting conversation. Almost everyone predicted my first child was going to be a boy based on how I was carrying, but I eventually gave birth to a bouncing baby...girl!! I am also betting on a girl for Jessa, but based more on a gut feeling than anything. I can also imagine her surrounded by ornery little boys!!

    1. I had 3sons and a daughter. Son 1 I carried very low. Son 2 was very high. Son 3 right in the middle. 8 years later my girl I carried in the middle. Home births help Mama relax in her own home.

  62. What do the Duggars have against going to the hospital to have their babies? I think it would be much safer than a home birth.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think there against it they like to be in their home and more relaxed and much much cheaper. I think like with Jill to be safe they will go if needed.

  65. It is just as safe for a normal, healthy pregnancy to deliver at home. It is actually statistically safer for a healthy mom to deliver at home. I don't see what everyone's fascination is with giving birth in the same place people die and go when they're carrying infectious, communicable diseases. :/ Guess to each their own.

  66. Its more comfortable and they usually have a transport plan. I wish I'd have minr as t home in ssh tead of being forced to lie on my bsck snd suffer you csn do what you need to do at h ok me more natur as l

    ReplyDelete
  67. They don't have anything against hospitals but prefer home births. Hospitals are back ups. Michelle had her last few in hospital

    ReplyDelete
  68. People are so funny with their old wives tales. I'm on baby number 4 and I've carried differently with each one. With my current pregnancy I'm carrying really high and it looks like I have a basketball under my shirt. It's a boy. My two girls sat much lower. So, unfortunately, that particular old wives tale doesn't hold much water.

    ReplyDelete
  69. What kind of prenatal care is Jessa receiving? Is she regularly seeing a doctor? A nurse midwife?

    ReplyDelete
  70. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR DELIVERY OF BABY SEEWALD

  71. Yet another selfie...

  72. I wonder if they were still on 19KAC if they would have revealed the gender. And will Jill and Jana and their midwifery team be there for the birth? For me, the thought of my sister delivering my baby seems weird. But the Duggars I understand because Jill's now a professional midwife. I can't wait until Jessa's baby enters the world. I predict its a girl.

  75. We really miss you on TLC. it is to bad that the people who judged all of you have a perfect life . so sorry for their actions. And TLC shame on you for your actions.what would you do if your son or daughter did this before throw them to the wolfes or get them help. this does not mean that the whole family should be punished.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Good luck to both of you. I'll jump into the guessing and say it's a boy. Hoping you will be back on TV soon. I've watched your show since 14 children and counting. Every family has their difficult times. I don't understand TLC cancelling the show. Hopefully, they will change their minds. God bless you all.

  80. Alot of women want to deliver in the hospital because the option of getting epidural is there if the pain is unbearable. Also, if something goes wrong you have a team of medical professionals who can interview within a matter of seconds which can sometimes make a difference between life and death
