Josh Duggar Begins Long-Term Treatment

This morning, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar updated fans on Josh and Anna's heartbreaking situation via their family website. For the ease of our readers, we have posted their statement below:

We are so thankful for the outpouring of love, care and prayers for our family during this most difficult situation with Josh.

As parents we are so deeply grieved by our son’s decisions and actions. His wrong choices have deeply hurt his precious wife and children and have negatively affected so many others. He has also brought great insult to the values and faith we hold dear.

Yesterday Josh checked himself into a long-term treatment center. For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery. We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change.

In the meantime, we will be offering our love, care and devoted support to Anna and our grandchildren as she also receives counsel and help for her own heart and future.

During this time we continue to look to God—He is our rock and comfort. We ask for your continued prayers for our entire family.

  2. While I believe that Josh Duggar has committed some wrongs, I truly applaud the way the family is pulling together to support him and to help him. Anna and her children are going through so much and I pray for strength and comfort for her. No of us is perfect and we all fall short in our Heavenly Father's eyes, yet He remains faithful in loving and blessing us.
I believe that a true testimony is gained by those who walk through trials and tribulations and seek colace and guidance from above., Good Luck to your family

  9. No questions need be answered .... 1John 1:8 and 9 tell it all. Posted this just this morning. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. He is in the forgiveness, cleansing and restoration business and for that, I am very, very thankful. Continued prayers for the Duggar family with love, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost for all. Stay strong and godly, Anna, praying for no unforgiveness to stick. God is your refuge and your strength, your very present help in time of trouble. (Ps. 46:1) Love you all!

  18. Such a sad situation for all. I'm glad that Jim Bob and Michelle made this statement and are offering support for Anna and the children. As much as this whole situation is so grieving, those of us with faith understand that the Lord heals all and will comfort us in our darkest hours.

  20. Hoping & praying they get the professional help they need in order to recover ~not just chats with the church elders or repairing a building. I hope the parents & sibling also receive legitimate professional help. You can't fool all the people all the time

  28. I am hoping that Anna & children are also getting help!! She right now needs counseling & to distance herself from Josh & his family. She needs to seek within & above as to what her future is! Our Heavenly Father has a plan for her ... but it may not include Josh! She should not have to help him through this. She herself needs to take of her & 4 small children. Prayers for all!!

My hopes and prayers are that he gets the healing that he needs so that he can be the head of his household. I pray that Anna will get the help that she needs to help her through all of this. I am also thankful to know that the Duggars will be there for Anna. To support her as she goes through any difficult situation that she is facing and going to face in the future. I believe in my heart that they are on the road to recovery. With Gods help this will happen. I also hope that Josh has not only asked forgiveness of his sins, but to turn from them and never go back again. I know that it is hard, but again...with Gods help...it can be accomplished. God bless & Luv y'all lots!!!

Guys can just deal with heartache and heartbreak seemingly better that we women...when it comes to disappointments and infidelities on the part of our husbands and sons! Josh, I hope you can depend & truly change your ways. You have been so blessed & yet you don't seem to know that. I hope you can turn your life around & return home to you're loving wife & innocent children a new, humble husband and father.

  43. Treatment?

Come on, guys. I'm all for treatment facilities and counseling and all that. But ever since the molestation scandal broke, everyone's been acting like he has a terminal disease, not that he has a profound, deeply rooted SIN problem. He got caught!!! He did NOT come forward with this sin. I am not convinced at ALL that he is truly repentant. Why should I be? Thankfully, Jesus knows his heart and will take care of him His way. I LOVE the Duggars. But seriously. Josh is a conman, looking out for what he wants. Period.

I pray also for Anna and the children, that God will mend her broken heart! I pray also for you the parents, as I know your heart is broken as well... and for all the rest of the Duggers... God is faithful and this too shall pass... God's Blessings!

  55. This is the first and best step for him. Praying for him, Anna and the entire Duggar family. Everyone deserves to be forgiven. The Lord forgives we all know that! Other people do not get it but that is because they have not been taught correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Let me start by saying I am a Christian who likes this family. But a very close friend of mine went through what Anna is going through... Awesome Christian husband, unrepentant double life. Got caught. This is what scares me. When there's something to gain by being a Christian, whether it be family approval, career success, self worth, etc... the power of Jesus is often lost. Historically, Christians were the outcasts, beaten, flogged, murdered... Christians ruling the country is a new idea, and obviously it's not EVER how it's supposed to be, until Heaven. When there's something to gain, other than Jesus Himself, by being a Christian, these things will happen over and over again.

  80. PRAYING FOR BOTH SIDES OF THE FAMILIES! BOTH ANNA'S AND JOSH'S. MAY GOD TOUCH BOTH SIDES HEARTS AND GUIDE THEM THROUGH THESE TIMES. I HOPE ANNA REALIZES THIS IS NOT HER FAULT AND PEOPLE NEED TO QUIT ACCUSING AND JUDGING JOSH'S FAMILY AND ANNA. GOD DECIDES WHAT HAPPENS TO JOSH. ONLY GOD! I AM NOT JUDGING JOSH OR ANNA OR THE DUGGARS. WE ARE HERE TO HELP AND TO GUIDE AND TO FORGIVE. I WISH THEY HADN'T TOOK THE SHOW OFF THE AIR. I BELIEVE THIS COULD HAVE HELPED OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING THRU SOMETHING LIKE THIS. BUT THEY ALSO NEED SOME PRIVATE TIME TO HEAL AND GET HELP. ANNA FOLLOW YOUR HEART AND DO WHAT GOD GUIDES YOU TO DO. WHATEVER YOU DECIDE WILL BE THE RIGHT MOVE. MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP ALL OF YA'. MAY HE GUIDE AND LEAD YA' IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. AMEN

  81. My prayers are with your entire family. Complete recovery from pornography is so very, very difficult, but we know that NOTHING is impossible with God. I pray that Josh will be totally submissive to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to completely cleanse him and make him whole. I pray especially for Anna. I understand her broken heart and know that trust will take a very long time to restore. Only with God at the center can she also become whole again. I pray also for Jim Bob, Michelle and all the siblings that they will keep their eyes on God and His Sovereignty. May He grant each of you His peace and comfort. He is walking each step of this journey with each of you.

  86. So glad to hear this. Sounds like the Duggar Family is taking a holistic approach through Anna also getting counseling. As a religious Jew with similar values, I have enjoyed the Duggar episodes via Amazon as we do not have a TV. Hang in there, You all are in my prayers. May Josh be completely healed and live a happy and fulfilled life with Anna and his children. All my love Rivkah.

  87. I can only hope that Josh is receiving treatment from a licensed professional that specializes in what Josh is dealing with. I hope that Anna is also receiving professional treatment as well as Michelle and JimBob. I fear that what Josh has done will cause the Duggar's to make their rules more stringent which might not be helpful for the remaining Duvgar's at home.

    1. Agreed. He "got help" when he was a teenager, but was it actually helpful? He should be seeing a licensed professional.

  92. Sending many prayers, hugs and love your way. I am so happy Josh has decided to get real help. This is a disease like drugs, alcohol not to be taken lightly. Anna you are a beautiful Godly wife, mother and women. Believe in yourself, be angry with Josh if you want it's okay. Never ask yourself what did I do to make him cheat on me. I will tell you my story....My ex-yes ex husband of over 20 years....cheated on me with strip clubs spending lots of money we didn't have. Pron magazines, XXX rated movies, prostitutes, we had two small boys when I found this out. I was heart broken to say the least. He was arrested for picking up a prostitute. Devastated.... see my children's father was raised in a Christian home, his dad was a Pastor and the worst part was he was the Youth Pastor at the church we attended. We myself as well made the mistake of not doing anything to get help. I just tried to do my best to give him what he wanted but being a mom of two small boys and working and trying to be a wife it was hard. His desire was to keep up with this type of lifestyle he had. He was raised in a sheltered life style. I was raised in a Christian loving home but was not sheltered from the world. I am going to be 60 years old and Anna I have never drank, did drugs or smoked and was a virgin when I got married. Did kiss before marriage. I was so thrilled to have married a man of God. My world was crushed...I thought we had worked things out and he was good....We moved and he became the Youth Pastor at the church his dad was Pastor of...wow Anna - he was back to his same old habits....he became abusive physically and mental and emotionally. His family of course only backed him up except for 1 brother. I prayed and did everything I could to keep my marriage together. I know by divorcing him was okay with God.. He has been married 3 times and divorced 3 times...he cheated on them and abused them as well. The 3rd wife only stayed married for 2 years and lived with him only 1 year...Anna said is he doesn't think he's doing anything wrong.......Josh is getting the help he needs....hang in there Anna keep your marriage together but next to God put yourself and those babies first....let Josh get the help he needs and Like I said be angry with Josh it's really okay and THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU!!!!

  94. I am so proud of Josh and praying for him and your family. This was a gift from God so that he could be freed from sexual immorality. He wants Josh to be whole and pure. It was a hard way to get his attention, but I praise God that Josh listened, turned His face back to God, and is getting the help he needs. Some days will be harder than others and Josh may have to decide every day, or every second during hard days to submit his will to the Lord's. God's grace is sufficient. I pray that Josh would experience true freedom in the name of Jesus.

  97. My prayers are with you Duggar family.
Even as Christian parents our children can and do make bad decisions that lead them down destructive paths. I am so grieved for your family, for Anna and the children and yes for Josh too. I hope and pray that he will reach a place of true repentance and brokenness over his actions. God is the one who forgives even the most vile, He is the one who restores and heals, He alone can set us free from the things that bind us and put our feet on solid ground. We love you Duggar family, Anna and Josh and the children. I will be praying for you guys

  98. I hope this is actually a legitimate treatment facility with professionals trained to treat people with sexually deviant behavior rather than sending him to a family friend to do construction work. We all have seen how well that worked out. Praying for the family, especially Anna and their children. How heartbreaking.

  112. I'm really glad that Josh is getting some professional help. I have been very worried about him. I have been in his position and I know how hard it is to climb back from the horrible consequences of doing something stupid. Mine wasn't on as grand a scale as his and certainly not in the tabloids, and for that I feel bad for him. Ultimately, the humiliation and devastation is the same and it will take years for him to get back to a place where he will feel like he can function again and be part of society as a whole. My heart breaks for him, for Anna and those children. The media can be so cruel and unforgiving. Josh made some horrible choices - so did I. He hurt a lot of people he claims to love - so did I. I hope he can one day forgive himself - I never could and probably never will. I certainly hope and pray that whatever help he receives will bring him to that point and aid in rebuilding the trust between him and Anna and also his parents and siblings. I also pray that this will not affect McKynzie, Michael, Marcus and Meredith as they grow up and that they will be allowed to live their lives free of the stigma of what their dad did when they were little. It's a tough world but they don't deserve to carry this on their shoulders.
Praying and hoping for healing for Josh and Anna and the entire Duggar family.

  118. The true is the devil wants to destroy the family because God hold family precious in his eyes. I feel so bad for Anna because I know how it feels to give everything o a husband and for him not to get help. We are no longer married but I married again and the devil has tried to destroy this marriage too. We are living in the last days before Jesus returns and I pray Anna knows it is not her issue it is a demon that Josh has to want to give to God. Love your family!!

  126. You are not alone. As a wife who has been hurt by my husband's choice to view porn, I want to remind you, this is more common than you know. The fact that Josh was willing to publicly confess his actions and take the consequences is huge! Many of us wives suffer in silence while our husbands struggle alone because of fear and pride. In our private fight against this sin, we have found that everytime we think we have put up walls to protect our family, Satan finds another hole. It hurts to walk through a mall and see the almost porn that is plastered everywhere. I cringe everytime I see my husband in a corner with his tablet. When he touches me, I wonder who he is touchig. It hurts. Our husbands have a very difficult fight, they need us. God knows. Our Heavenly Father is hurt by this far more than we are. And it does hurt. It hurts more than ourr husbands realize. There is hope and amazing grace for you all. God will help, forgive, and heal. Lord willing your testimony will wake up churches to this very real very present enemy called Porn. No family is safe, no position is out of its reach. BTW, my husband is a pastor. It is my prayer that one day he will have the convicton to stand and confess. Then we can start to heal. God bless.

  127. I am so against organized religion and this is one reason why. Those that know there is a GOD and follow the 10 Commandments that were written for ALL to follow, do not need to preach or judge others on how they live. I am sure there are more deep secrets within the family and only YOU can repent and fix these. GOD is there to guide, not repair your faults.

  130. I hope this is successful. As someone who has been in recovery, I want to let you know, in some cases one time is not enough. But don't lose faith if that happens. With time and patience recovery is possible as with all addictions. I pray you all find peace and healing through this trying journey. You guys still have lots of supporters out there!

  131. Jim Bob, Michelle, Josh, Anna and family: How my heart hurts for you all. I am so very proud of all of you. This could have crushed you all to the point of no return. But like Job, you all have and will come through this because of Christ's love and strength. Jesus never said we would not go through tremendous trials. He only said He would be there with us. There IS something good that will come out of all of this. I pray you will stay in His presence and walk 'above the waves'... keeping your eyes OFF of the turmoil and circumstances and ON Him. I pray a hedge of protection around each and every one of you and a legion of mighty warring angels to be ever present as the enemy will be seeking to stop God's work that you've started. God will be glorified in this. And I pray healing and peace to you all.

  132. In this statement you asked for continued prayer for your family. I for one have been and will continue to do so. I love you though I've never had the honor of meeting you, which would have been priceless to me because you all have helped me grow in my faith more than you will ever know, and your weekly show kept me together at a very difficult time in my life. I'm paralysed due to a birth defect called spina bifida, and though I've overcome much and am very active and independent, my body often betrays me from time to time. About four years ago I was bed bound and it lasted for four almost five years, I almost died. Your show, books and example helped me keep my wits and my faith. God has used you and continues to do so, and yes even Josh who I still greatly admire. Yes I'm disappointed, but I am no less a sinner than he so I can't stand in condemnation. I still think he's the best as I do all of you. He with God's help will overcome, and he and annas marriage will be restored and stringer than ever. Much love in Christ ... Donna charpentier

  152. Now if anyone has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure—not to put it too severely—to all of you. For such a one, this punishment by the majority is enough, so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. What I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.

That being said, let's give it a rest. The media is already giving them so much attention for this, and they need to recover from this in privacy, especially Anna. I agree with pamelabrock, focus on the good and the positive. Try and help the family go back to their normal lives.

  169. i have read many comments on many sites that uses Josh's sins to suggest that Christianity is worthless. Christians do not need God because they are perfect. We need Him because we sin, because we are human and make mistakes daily. In God's eye a sin is a sin, no matter what. We need God because that is the only way to have our sins forgiven. Without His son Jesus dying on the cross, and being raised from the dead after three days, we would all be dead in our sin. Praise God Josh is leaning in His everlasting arms.

  173. This is a good first step for Josh, and I pray that he becomes truly repentant this time. He needs counselling not only for the pornography and adultery, but also for the deceit. From Duggars first statement, it seems as if they were not aware of this until the news broke.....which means Josh was "outted" as opposed to confessing his sin himself. That is very troubling. I pray for Anna, that God grants her wisdom as to how she should move forward. Whether she stays with him or divorces him, it will be a long, difficult road for her and the children.

  176. Do any of you question the timing on this?!? If he genuinely felt he had a problem and wanted help then he could have asked for it at any time BEFORE his name was leaked. I imagine the only reason he is entering treatment is that he was caught and his family told him that he needed to go in order to gain sympathy. "Poor Josh has an addiction and can't control himself..." The only people I feel sorry for are the victims of his sexual assaults years ago and his poor wife and kids.
