Celebrating Jana and John

To celebrate their 25th birthday, twins Jana and John-David Duggar went out to Cracker Barrel with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and Grandma Duggar.

Michelle Duggar, John Duggar, Grandma Duggar, Jim Bob Duggar, Jana Duggar

How do the twins spend their time? John has his pilot's license, does construction work, and is a Washington County constable. Jana is very skilled at the piano, and Jim Bob often describes her as a concert pianist. Both Jana and John have a heart for serving others and are involved in various ministries.

  15. I would be sad if somebody take me to cracker barrell for my 25th birthday.

  16. "Concert pianist" is not the same thing as an accompanist, or someone who plays in recitals or at home concerts. Jana is certainly a talented musician, but she is not a professional who has reached the highest levels of performance.

  17. I thought Jana was a doula. Turns out she is a concert pianist? Where does she perform these concerts?

  24. With so many Duggar kids, it must be very hard to remember who's birthday is next.
It's neat to learn something about the older Duggar kids. I wish you could post a few more things about each Duggar though.
Either way, any event that you post Lily and Ellie, is always exciting when you're a Duggar Fan.

  51. I think maybe the title "concert pianist" is being used very loosely here. Playing local concerts does not make one a concert pianist. That title is generally reserved for people who have trained at a music conservatory and actually play professionally - for income. I think a correction is needed here out of respect for actual concert pianists.

  52. @Anonymous

Thank you for the answer, I was wondering, because It looked like something she was enjoying.

    1. Was it Jinger who was playing two pianos at once? It was incredible! Would love to see that in person no matter which one it was. I'd enjoy seeing sweet faced Jana in concert on the piano, playing the harp or violin. Was very disappointed when we were led to believe that all the kids on stage were playing the violin, until Johannah and Jackson told the truth-- that they didn't even know how to play .

  53. What's with all the eye makeup the Duggar girls are wearing lately. In my opinion, they'd be prettier without it. I'm surprised with them being as conservative as they claim to be that they'd wear any makeup at all.

  54. Was thinking about the age order of the children that the Duggars present with Jana after Josh and before John David because that is the order they came out in. In away making Jana seem to be John David's elder is ridiculous since they were twins. (Who knows which was actually conceived first!). I would say that what we can deduce from Jana being born first is that John David is a true gentleman who always puts ladies first!

    ReplyDelete
  55. (I think it is bizarre that someone would want to know if Jana had been 'offered' Derick first and turned it down. Let's just assume not. Good grief, he and Jill have gone the whole nine yards.)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Agree with Anonymous' in comment 55. Jim Bob and Michelle have stepped out-of-bounds portraying Jana as a "concert pianist" and have lost a lot of respect by doing so. A "correction" or apology should be humbly forthcoming...unless, of course, they can back up the label with education and performance credentials.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hi Readers,

Jana does not have a music degree, but she has spent a lifetime studying music and regularly blesses others with her considerable musical abilities. Jim Bob is justifiably proud of her accomplishments and often calls her a concert pianist. :)

    ~Lily and Ellie

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nice that Jim Bob is proud. My daughter is an amazing pianist but I would not publicly proclaim that she is a concert pianist. What's with that?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thank you for this clarification. I am sure Jim-Bob is very proud of his daughter and meant no harm in greatly exaggerating Jana's expertise as a musician, but many people have been falsely lead to assume something is true when it is not. In his eyes she may be as talented as any concert pianist. However, she's not been trained or educated professionally, nor performed in any such capacity. He really needs to step up and issue an apology. I am curious to know if Jim-Bob would ever encourage any of his adult children to leave home and pursue a career which requires an accredited degree and professional training.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anony. 49- Jana stopped training to be a Doula when Jillmarried and ceases her trading to pursue becoming a mid-wife. Nothing to do with Journey of the Heart.

Lily & Ellie- thank you for clearing up the confusion over what Michelle and JimBob told us about Jana being a "concert" pianist.

  61. Why should something be wrong with Jana and John David just because they're 25 and still at home? My son is 22 and is living at home, its expensive living on your own and only getting minimum wage. He helps me at home and comes and goes as he pleases. He's very involved with the church so he's not out getting in trouble. I don't blame them for still living at home

    ReplyDelete
  62. I wonder why people want an 'apology' because of calling Jana a concert pianist. If she plays for concerts be they in a Christmas concert or at a concert given to senior citizens or at home put on by the children is that not a sort of concert and is she not the pianist? Therefore she is a concert pianist, people should get over it already. And maybe this is a little advert saying she will play for your if you ask her to a concert. (I get people's contrary argument they need not repeat it in rebuttal).

    ReplyDelete
  63. Some of these loose use of terms may actually be thought out and impacted with a philosophy.
Consider Matthew 23:13 "...ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in." When Jana plays the piano in a concert she is usually involved in the expression of praise to Our Saviour. Jana has often been the pianist in praise and worship concerts, and her earthly father acknowledges that truth. What have people against this?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Re: Jana being a concert pianist, did anyone say she is a professional concert pianist? Relax if she plays piano for concerts then she is a concert pianist. Maybe Jana has the honor for her father that he can call her anything he wants (just don't call her late for dinner, and in the Duggar household I bet that one is very true!)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Using the term "concert pianist" so loosely and giving Jim-Bob a pass on using it is an insult to those who dedicate their lives from an early age to study, practice, competition, and solo professional performance. It is a thoroughly demanding and all-consuming profession that requires years of preparation from a reputable piano performance program or conservatory. Few have the talent or capacity to rise to this level. I took piano lessons for many years and played in concerts, but it would have been ridiculous of me to say I was a concert pianist.

  66. I have to laugh when I read some of these comments. It is like the classic statement people make when they say you are making this all about you, it is not about you, it is about the children. (Or something to that effect.) This blog clearly stated Celebrate John David and Jana so please don't find some little fault (which can be debated as to if or not it is a problem) and exaggerate that point and use it as a springboard to launch into a big statement about 'you'. After all in the Duggar house there are not that many moments especially dedicated to celebrating the individuals, let them have their moment without putting 'you' centre stage and competing for their little bit of lime light and celebration of them.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think people people are blowing this concert pianist statement way out of control. Jimbob certainly didn't mean to insult anyone I'm sure. Please let it go and focus on something mor important

    ReplyDelete
  68. Let's not loose sight of the forest for the trees, celebrate Jana and John!

    ReplyDelete
  69. People really seem hung up on the "concert pianist " comment. Let it go. It was probably just Jim Bob's way of saying she is talented. Kinda like how parents call their children their little Picasso. They are just saying I'm proud of you.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Jim Bob does not have to apologize nor should he. He's just being a parent. In this case he did not exaggerate his description of her. As she literally plays piano and in local "concerts" ergo Concert Pianist is correct. Definition of concert performance according to Oxford dictionary: "A performance of a piece of music written for an opera, ballet, religious service, etc., at a concert without the accompanying dramatic action, dance, or liturgy." There you go she has played the piano for many religious services. This is a non-issue.
