Jill and Derick's First Kiss

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard--now Mr. and Mrs. Dillard--saved their first kiss for their wedding. And what a first kiss it was!

"I thought about it and decided to dip her," Derick told PEOPLE Magazine

How did Jill rank the kiss? "He's a great kisser," Jill told PEOPLE. "All his trumpet playing paid off!"

  1. WTG Derick! Awesome that he decided to "dip" her...after waiting forever to kiss her; a dip is the least he could do!!!

  5. Awesome kiss. Especially for their first time. Derick's a very vivid and surprising kisser. He sure did surprise Jill with that "dip" he gave her.

  6. What a sweet pic., I used to think the Duggar's wait to kiss policy was a little over the top, but they have gained my complete respect. Also, loved the comment Jill made about Derick. I think Mr. and Mrs. Dillard will do very well together!

  7. That is so precious. Great idea to wait until the wedding day for anything physical. Derick and Jill hope you always find happiness.

  8. Were they married by Gil Bates?

  9. I'm a sucker for a good old fashioned dip. (Though I would have been SO embarrassed to have my first kiss in public! To each her own of course).

  11. I enjoyed watching their courtship. Jill's sweetness, her innocence, really made the relationship special for me to watch.
I wish I had been better informed and encouraged by my parents when I was younger ~

    Hi Anonymous 10,

Jill and Derick were not married by Gil Bates, but the Bates family was at the wedding.

  16. I am not convinced about this first kiss saving for marriage, and I wonder how jill can judge he is a great kisser if she has never been kissed before.

    1. Of course she can...you dont need to kiss a bunch of frogs to enjoy a kiss from a prince:-) Besides, from my experience its not the skill of the kisser its the connection you have that makes it magical.

  20. That's why Jill said it was worth the wait - that looks like quite the kiss! :D

  21. I really used to think it was a bit much for them to not even kiss until marriage but my thoughts have changed. You are really much better able to objectively decide whether or not this is someone you want to spend your life with if your heart is not drawn into the equation with physical affection of any kind. Plus if things do not work out it is much more hurtful if your heart is involved. The physical aspect of the relationship then cement the deal once it is a forever commitment. God really had an ingenious design for the marriage covenant. I so wish I had followed God's design better along the way and I would have saved myself a lot of heart break!

  22. So romantic! True love!

  23. That Derick is SO romantic! (the "dip" kiss, as well as his wedding proposal.) I'm sure he'll make Jill a happy wife! He is very creative, as far as romantic ideas. Thought sweet Jill's appraisal of the kiss was comical in a cute way. If this was her first kiss ever, what standard would she use to rate if he was a good kisser? But then, all that really matters is that they're happy together! And that they obviously have an exclusive, committed love for each other.

  24. Why doesn't anyone respond if this is Derick's first kiss also? I doubt that it is; there is nothing wrong with it not being his first. He doesn't and didn't live by the Duggar made up rules. He obviously lives(d) like a more mainstream religious guy. What's the big secret if he kissed other young women in school? So what? We'd like to know, since this family makes a big deal about Jill being her first one ever.

  25. Now this was the picture I wanted to see there real first kiss! Not the outside one yay!!!

  26. Did Derick kiss or for that matter date anyone before even meeting the Duggars? I bet he did, and if so, I wander if Jill knows that? But no one should think it's bad~

  27. Why is Jim Bob right up there at the "altar" during Jill's wedding ceremony? He is standing right behind her when they kissed. I have never known a christian ceremony where the father of the bride is oggling the couple during the ceremony. Is there a religious significance in this belief system?

  28. And if Derrik DID kiss other girls before Jill, that is for her to know. Not everyone in the world needs to know if he did or not. Why is it important anyway? So the people that don't wait can feel better about themselves for kissing lots of people before meeting their true love? That's ridiculous.

  29. So happy for them

  30. To all the first kiss speculators, would you want people posting comments about what you may or may not have done before you were married. It never hurts to be respectful, but clearly disrespect can hurt and feel intrusive. Please consider that we are not talking about actors playing part, these are real flesh and blood people with feelings.

  31. DAH! <3 Awesome :) Excited to FINALLY be able to see this picture!! :D

  32. It just isn't our business if he kissed someone before Jill! Why do people keep asking if he did?!

    Hi Anonymous 29,

Jim Bob walked up to the altar right before the kiss and told Derick that he "may now kiss the bride."

  34. I think it's time for Jim Bob and Michelle to step back from having babies and let the next generation have their children without having to share the spotlight with Mama and her pregnancies..I have been married for 51 years and I don't know of any body that kisses as much as Jim Bob and Michelle...he can't seem to keep his hands off her..I think that should be done in private...love all the kids, just not sure about the parents...

  40. Love it, Is so sweet to find that kind of love. My family as well is very religious and pretty much follows the same ways, nothing physical until marriage, but i would not have it any other way, I believe it makes that day so much special. Love the show is a very clean show that it shows what is important. Love it, and great congratulation to the newly wed,Is like my mom says when things in a relationship start right, everything will be good from then on. Congrats..
