Josh and Anna Duggar have been in Washington D.C. for less than a month and are still in the process of adjusting to life in the big city. One major difference
between the nation's capital and northwest Arkansas is the scarcity
of parking spots. The young couple and their three little ones ventured out in their Suburban
yesterday and successfully parallel parked their SUV in the heart of the city (see picture below). How comfortable are you at parallel parking?

ReplyDeleteI used to be terrible because I didn't have to do it much in Nevada. Living in Seattle you learn quick or you drive around forever looking for a parking that doesn't require parallel parking. I'm pretty adept at it now. That parking looks a little too close though, might need to be air lifted out of that one!! Ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteWith all the cars Josh could have chosen from his lot or the auction, I'm not sure he made the best choice. They have 3 kids so a minivan would have been fine and a lot easier to park and better on gas! My best friend has a Suburban (she has 5 kids and cares for her sick mom so anything smaller was not an option) and even after 7 years of driving it is hard to park in regular spots at the target and it gets 12/15mpg! I have 3 kids to drive around and even though it is a bit cramped at times(like long trips) I'm fine with my small sedan. Easy to park and great gas mileage.
ReplyDeleteWell, clearly I'd be walking in DC or taking public transport. I couldn't get a car in or out of those spots.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I parallel parked was during my driving test. I did it right (very small car), and passed the test. I have tried to avoid ever doing it again. :) Now I am living in China, and my husband always tells me I should get my driver's license, but the traffic is crazy, so I prefer to take the bus or a taxi. They usually back in to parking spaces. I'm not very comfortable with that either, and I usually have to close my eyes while my husband does it. :D
ReplyDeleteThat is an extremely impressive parking job!! As far as traffic and parking in DC in particular and the Washington Metro area in general go...? Josh and Anna aren't in Kansas anymore. lol!
ReplyDeleteYou're awesome, Josh! Parallel parking is a joke now that I drive a 15 passenger van. I can do it, but it really freaks people out to watch me. LOL

ReplyDeleteWell, it can be done, it's just not very practical for me. That was actually something I was never taught years ago in driver's ed.

ReplyDeleteFailed my 1st road test ( many years ago) because I hit the curb twice trying to parallel park. Passed the 2nd time- dad made me practice a lot. Of course I avoid it now!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's really tight! I can parralell park really well, now as for the rest of my driving that's another story. Lol. Here in Australia you get a learner s permit at age 16. And you take a test either on a computer or on paper. And you must drive supervised at all times till your about 18 then you can go for your probationary permit. You have to take what's called a ' hazard perception test' on computer and IF you pass that then you get behind the wheel with your instructor next to you and a testing officer behind you. Then if you pass you stay on your probationary permit for 3-4 years and you can drive on your own but you must display a sign with a 'p' on ithe front and back windows at all times. Then once the 3-4 years are ver you no longer have to display that sign.
ReplyDeleteSo I find it amazing kids are allowed to go for their permit at 14 over there! That's so young!
I don't know what's more of the accomplishment - the parallel parking job or actually finding a place to park in DC. I lived there and believe me, neither are easy.
ReplyDeleteWow, great parking job! :-) I grew up in Philly, so parallel parking was something that just came with the territory. Now that I have been living in the suburbs with a driveway for 17 years, I doubt I would do as well! :-) I'm surprised that they didn't find a home in the Maryland or Virginia suburbs. It's a quick and easy commute via metro and much more space!

DeleteFunny thing is me and 40, 000 (literally) of my Sorority Sisters are in DC right now for a convention, and transportation is rough right now.

ReplyDeleteWho are all these people thinking this is good parking?? I'd be seriously pissed if I came out and found someone parked that close to me. It's just asking to be pranged. And if those vehicles are still there when the Duggars want to leave, GOOD LUCK getting out without leaving a mark!!

Wow! some anger/attitude problems yes? if you prang or get pranged then it can be dealt with. people in dc would be used to this kind of parking. if you cant deal with it. tough.
DeleteThat is just the way it is in DC. Take a parking place or make a place-lol. When do we find out where they are living? I used to live in Montgomery County, MD, but a ways out from DC. I pray the best for them. There is a lot of good in the area, but also very different from the south.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the headline DUGGARS PARK THEIR SUBURBAN IN DC I thought it meant they were going to leave it in the driveway and use public transportation, LOL. Guess I was wrong. But this parking job is seriously inconsiderate to the cars around it. Walk the talk, park like a Christ-follower. Others before self, right? You have to walk the walk in everything, and think about those people trying to get out after you pinned them in. I have had this happen, and it is NOT fun. When you're a high-profile Christian setting the example, it's even more important to show others what the Walk looks like outside of church and political rallies. Now, stepping off my soapbox.
ReplyDeleteWe dont know how long they had been looking for a parking spot. and we also dont know if any spaces left enough room for them to park at all. that may of been the only one with just enough space for them to fit. who's to say those other two cars dont belong to the camera crew. and metro may not of been practical for some reason that day. and i know for a fact now matter what car you drive. some moron always pulls too far forward or not far enough forward in their parking space to allow much room for any one else. and the car he was driving may of been a company car.not their own. some of y'all come across really judgemental.

ReplyDeleteNice work! We lived in the D.C. area a few years ago but never got used to the parallel parking thing. We just ended up taking the Metro every where with our kids. It worked out beautifully.

some harsh words here ladies . do like if you are a christain act like 1 always . should be considerate of others when parking too. this was about josh not how OTHERS parked around him. also plenty of public transportation

ReplyDeleteIt just amazes me that someone would take the time to read through the comments on this and then make a negative comment about something they dislike. If you don't want to know about the Duggar family, don't read about the Duggar family. REMOVE YOUR EYES FROM THE SCREEN. It really is that simple. Search for something else that you care about and leave the rest of the people who are looking for some light-hearted entertainment alone!
ReplyDeleteYes, we don't know the exact situation...case in point of how irritating social media can be! Depending on the context, and without discernment (esp. if you're a celeb/"role model"), any otherwise would-be harmless pic can spark mega controversy, or simply make you look like a real dunce. I doubt the drivers of the two cars on either side of Josh's hefty SUV were saying, "wow, this guy's awesome! just look how he squeezed himself in here without a millimeter to spare...sweet!" No, they were probably saying something else...and trying to figure out how on earth they were going to get their cars out of there without having to wait for who knows how long before Josh returned to his vehicle. Even if it was a prop pic, knowing the other vehicles, etc, etc., etc., not a wise post...definitely could have chosen from many other an example to demonstrate the humor in the "trials & tribulations" of big-city life. Unfortunately, not the first post of its kind on Josh's Instagram...
ReplyDeleteIf they had had fewer kids, they would not need such a gas guzzler. They are way too young to have three kids anyway. They should be having the times of their lives building their careers, getting graduate degrees, and partying, not having babies.

ReplyDeleteFor some odd reason I never had any issue squeezing in a spot...during drivers ed the instructor would make me pull in for other passengers then I would get to drive us all back...lol
The trick is where you start and how large the vehicle is you are driving and gauging the size of the car in front of you.....usually just focus on where their side mirror is and pull back...
