  1. That's cool! It sounds like they have a good system. I guess they have to with that many people :)

I noticed that Justin was wearing an eyepatch on his eye towards the end of the video. Any idea why? I hope he's okay!

  3. It is so interesting to see how the Duggars keep things organized! I enjoy learning new ideas from them. It would be interesting to learn some tips from the older girls on how they get those beautiful curls to stay in such long hair. What hair products do they use & what hair styling tools do they use? A "how to" video would be great! : )

  4. I think Justin was wearing the eyepatch just for fun.

  5. Shouldn't Mother of the Year Michelle help with the laundry rather than having an elderly women do it?

  6. I think it's rather silly that Grandma Duggar is doing a speck of that laundry, when Michelle and any of the other kids (yes the boys too) could be doing it. Grandma's over 70. Give her a break already. Give her something easier to do. Or you know, just let her sit on her backside. At 70, she's earned that, not being sentenced to doing laundry for 20+ people.

  7. I enjoyed the video, lots of good ideas.

  8. Woahhh!! So much to do, so little time! Good on Joy and grandma for taking on that task. I wonder why they moved the girls stuff upstairs. I guess they didn't have enough space or the girls liked it better with their stuff upstairs...I probs would.

  9. What a great system for clothes! I would love to have 2 dryers! I do wonder though, with all of the healthy teens in the house, surely the great-grandmother could have a less strenuous jurisdiction.

Does Grandma enjoy doing the laundry? That's a lot of work!

Do any of the boys help with the laundry?

  11. On an episode I saw grandma folding clothes with a cool folding tool. What is that called & where do I get one! It looks like it makes life easier! LOVE YOUR SHOW!!!

  12. I am appalled by this. Why can't Michelle do the bulk of the laundry? Or have each child over the age of 8 do one or two loads? I cannot imagine having my mother in law (who happens to be the same age as Grandma Duggar) do my whole family's laundry.

  13. I heard a lot of "Grandma does this. And Grandma does that."

Poor woman. Women of her age shouldn't be doing so much labor.

  14. Joy doesn't look very happy.

I wonder what kind of soap they use? They blurred the bottles so we can't see :-(

  15. I've heard grandma on the say on the show before she enjoys doing the laudry. I dont think grandma duggar is the type of person who wants to sit around and have other ppl wait on her. I'm sure it makes her feel great to be able to do that.

  16. Grandma Duggar isn't forced to do the laundry but like something to do and that is what she has picked to do instead of siting on her bottom. Justin was wereing an eye patch for some time because of a lazy eye but when I saw him just two weeks ago he was doing just fine. What type of laundry soap do the Duggars use? They actually make there own laundry soap here is the link to the recipe http://duggarsblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/duggar-recipe-liquid-laundry-soap.html?m=1 . What hair products do the Duggars use? The Duggar girls do perms and just mainly use the bargain price products for that, but for hair spray they use Aussie brand and it seems to work for them, and when they flat iron there hair they use what's called Healthy Sexy Hair but they put a sticker over the middle word, it makes flat ironing or as my brothers would call it burning your hair only like ten minutes and very effective. The boys do help with the laundry, Michelle doesn't have a whole lot of time though to spend doing the laundry with helping with homeschooling and training the younger ones.

  17. Why aren't the boys doing the laundry? They certainly are old enough. Why is Gramma Duggar doing it? Heck, why isn't Michelle Duggar doing it?

    Hi Anonymous,

The contraption you saw Grandma Duggar using is called a T-Shirt folding board or laundry folding board. You can buy one online or make your own (http://lifehacker.com/5986437/build-your-own-t+shirt-folding-board-with-cardboard-and-duct-tape).

If you decide to make one, let us know how it goes:)

  19. I think that Grandma Duggar should be relaxing by a pool somewhere and socializing with friends and enjoying her golden years. How sad that she is your laundry slave! Why does she have to do it? I can't believe she actually likes it! I guess Michelle is too busy with speaking engagements and world travels to bother with providing clean clothes for her "blessings" that SHE brought into this world.

  20. Grandma does like doing the laundry. She said it on more than one show. With such a big family everyone has to pitch in. :) I however cant see any of the recent videos posted. It keeps telling me the page is not found. Makes me sad. I love all the videos. :( Thanks for the blog! LOVE it!

  21. Interesting peek into the laundry system. Poor Joyanna strikes me as an outdoor type of person, and that laundry room looks like cellblock 6. Gramma may feel like it's her job to do the laundry, but we never see her with any friends her age going out for lunch or playing bingo. Just the constant hum of machines and screaming kids.

  22. Some people like doing the laundry. And if I was told to sit on my backside and do nothing I'd get annoyed and fidgety. I like getting up and moving and being involved. And as far as I know,Michelle DOES DO LAUNDRY, and a family friend also has VOLUNTEERED to help with laundry 2 x a week. Some of you have come across sounding very judgemental. Just because grandma and joy were the only two mentioned in the clip does not mean they are the only ones that do laundry in the house. Another consideration is, maybe it is a good thing for grandma to keep busy, as if she wasn't kept busy it would remind her too much that grandpa Duggar isn't there anymore and possibly allow depression to get a foothold?
You also seem to forget that the family spoil her. As demonstrated in several episodes and she insists herself the family spoil her.

  23. Actually Lilly and Ellie, the t-shirt folder is called a 'flip fold'
    The website is www.flipfold.com

  24. Why isn't each person assigned a laundry day? There are four washers/driers, so this could easily be accomplished. It seems overreaching to ask two people to do an average of 10 loads a laundry a day. Others should be helping with this task.

  25. @Anonymous-I think the Duggars made their own laundry detergent up until a few years ago (money saving needing to wash all those clothes); but, I have noticed on many episodes showing either the laundry room or RV, they use store bought detergent (looks like Tide). Also, Michelle has mentioned the older daughters have taken over much of the homeschooling. So, I'm not sure what Michelle really does all day???

  26. I have always been surprised that the Duggars don't have the kids do their own laundry. My husband came from a large family (23) and once he was 10, once a week he had a time to do his own laundry. With the size of those washers the Duggars have it would be one load per child. They could put the wash in and then go off and do school work and come back and put it in the dryer. I have always found it odd when the Duggars talk about learning life skills and personal responsibility they don't have the kids do laundry themselves. I'm sure glad my husband learned:) he is such a great help with laundry(and lots of chores).

  27. We love how everyone likes to pitch in!

  28. Of course Grandma says she likes to do laundry! What else can she say? But I agree that over half of the people living in that house...adults and teens...are more than capable of doing a load or two of laundry. I would be embarrassed to show my mother/ mother in law doing all that work on TV! Shame on them.

  29. I was thinking the Duggars made their own laundry soap. Maybe that proved too tedious.

    Hi Anonymous,

The Duggars still make their own laundry soap, but they transfer it into old dispensers to make it easier to use.

  31. Too much backlash on grandma duggar for doing laundry. Really people, nothing good to say. Nothing wrong with doing laundry, its not a back breaking job. Boring, yes..She seems more than capable. She is helping and feeling useful. She is an amazing help to all.

  32. Grandma Duggar can come over my house and my laundry!!

  33. In several episodes, Jim Bob has made it clear that his mother is quite competent financially. I even get the impression that she was often more of a breadwinner than her husband during Jim Bobs growing up years. Several episodes also describe her owning multiple properties. Mary Duggar lives with her son and family by choice. Yes she keeps active and it will probably add years to her life.

  35. Thank you for posting this little tidbit. Their lives are so far removed from mine, it's hard to relate sometimes. Everyone has dirty clothes, though!

  36. I really enjoy seeing how the Duggars look after their home, everyone pitches in and things seem to run well.

  37. I just stumbled across this and don't know anything about the Duggars, but I just wanted to comment on Grandma doing the laundry.

My mom came from a family of 15 children. One grandma lived with them; the other lived down the street and spent the days with them. Each person had a particular job to do. My mother's job was to cook. She was not the only cook, but that was her only big job.

One sister had the job of "wardrobe mistress." This was back in the days before ready-to-wear, so this sister had the job of sewing clothes (even including underwear) for the family. Again, she was not the only seamstress, but sewing was her only big job.

All the big jobs were parceled out like that. A "division of labor" sort of situation. Everyone was responsible for the smaller jobs like making your own bed, keeping your own room, etc.

Also, each older girl was responsible for a younger child. Dressing, bathing, etc.

Maybe they do something like that at the Duggars'?

  38. I too would like them to share the brand names of their hair products. I've noticed Michelle's hot rollers on the bath counter. and in one episode she was holding a different type of hot iron. Never got to see the names of the products. Never see her use hair spray, what kind does she use? I need a good holding hair spray. Please be kind and respectful to Grandma Dugger. These are kind people, hard to find, have you noticed? love and Peace to all.

  39. I also am curios about hair care products one reason is because the girls all have beautiful hair and it looks so perfect always. Another reason is hair care items are very expensive and would like to see if they have a tip or type to use or even make to help with the budget! I love the laundry soap although I don't water mine down to 10 gallons I use same recipe but only make 4-5 gallons with it works soooo much better. Oh and 1/2 cup per load.

  40. You know I think it is great that Jim Bob actually lets his mom live with him and his family. And yes I have heard Grandma Duggar say she likes laundry. Also each Duggar gets a jurisdiction. So that day it was JoyAnna's day to do laundry and they do the jurisdictions for one week I think and then they change jurisdictions so everybody gets a turn on each chore. Also with Grandma Duggar she does not strike me as the type that plays bingo or likes to do "old" people activities. She hangs out with her daughter Denise and granddaughter Amy alot too. I always see pictures on Amy's twitter account of her and Grandma doing things so don't think Grandma just stays in Jim Bob's house and slaves away. She is very active. I just think people should be positive about the fact that Jim Bob took care of both his father and mother when his father was ill and going through the death process. God bless the Duggars

  41. I have seen a lot of comments of Grandma Duggar doing laundry. What if she said that she wanted to do it? Maybe it's just what she likes compared to anything else. I know my Great Grandma gets depressed and says that she's not needed if my Nana and Papaw don't give her something to do. A lot of people are like that. I have worked in an independent living facility and most of the people felt that way. They still wanted to do things to help out. My husband and I have three children with one on the way. I am hoping that maybe splitting the laundry with my oldest will help me stay on top of it. Thank you so much Duggar family. I love watching your show and learning tips to make my house run more smooth.

  42. I was curious if you know what type of sewing machine they use?
