At Michelle's request, Mother's Day in the Duggar household is a
simple affair, filled with love and family time. For the mom of many,
the perfect day is spent building memories with her children and
grandchildren.
Sometimes the kids want to take me out, but sometimes they fix my favorite meal, chicken and dumplings -- I love chicken and dumplings! writes Michelle in her latest
TLC Parentables post.

And when it comes to gifts, she prefers homemade cards over expensive pieces of jewelry.
It's just really about those treasures that I put in my keepsake box
that I can look at years later, pull out and see the sweet little notes
that they wrote and the pictures that they drew for me.

Some of the children,
including fifteen-year-old Josiah, have natural artistic ability.
He'll just draw these really pretty pictures and write, "Mom, I'm just really glad that you had me. I'm so grateful to be here."
Happy Mother's Day to Michelle, Grandma Duggar, Anna, and all of our readers! How does your family celebrate?

ReplyDeleteevery day is family day in this family. i dont think i ever saw the girls just go out with their friends or even the boys play with kids in their area. anyone can answer that question.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to church and then having dinner together with extended family. Not too different from any other Sunday really :) I also know there's a surprise for me but my husband and kids have been very hush hush so we'll see what it is tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteFirst, we go to church. Then we go out to eat and open gifts! Lastly, we thank mama for being so wonderful to us.
ReplyDeleteMother's Day passes without notice here. My mom and grandmothers are gone and neither I nor my siblings have children.
ReplyDeletePretty Girl,
ReplyDeleteI've never noticed that either. I know they play when they visit the Bates or at the ATI Conference. Besides that I've never noticed. They live in the country, so I don't know if there are any kids close by. Hope this helps! :)
happy mothers day Michelle! and to all! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet article. :-) Michelle is so wise when it comes to her gifts--homemade things truly are the best! :) We take my mom out for her favorite meal--sushi! ;-)

ReplyDeleteHi pretty girl, In some of the episodes they talk about going to the local rink on Friday and Sat. evenings and informally playing broomball with other folks in town - the young kids play and then the youth. So they also have playing/socializing time when the other age kids are on the ice. In addition, they have written or talked about how they spend most of Sunday with their church congregation. They said girls spend the afternoon visiting and boys play ballgames.
ReplyDeleteYou know how sometimes we say, "Don't worry about doing anything", but what we really mean is, don't waste a bunch of money-----but,make me feel special?? I used to tell my family not to make a big deal of Mother's Day. I hated the thought of people using it as a marketing strategy. But, I get nothing. I have 6 kids and I homeschool, so not even a card from school. I didn't even get a "Happy Mother's Day" :0( So to any of you moms out there, be careful what you say and say what you mean. I felt as if I got my Mommy Grade Card yesterday and failed every subject!!
