Josh + Petroleum Jelly = One Messy Duggar Baby

Everyone has a messy baby story, and with 19 kids, the Duggars have quite a few.
Let's go back about 20 years. Back when the Duggars had an average-sized family. Picture Josh, about 2 years old, looking for excitement. And what could be more fun than, say, Petroleum Jelly??? So he sneaks into the bathroom, climbs onto the counter, and creaks open the medicine cabinet to seize the Vaseline. Opening the lid, he rubs it all over himself, into his hair, rolls around on the couch a few times.
Joshua is having a ball!
Until Mommy walks in.
Gulp.
But who can be mad when he looks so darn cute with his spiked hair? There's only one thing for Michelle to do....run for the camera!
And then spend the next week in the bathroom, scrubbing little Joshua's hair. Good times.....

Do you have a messy baby story? Or maybe you have several? We would love to hear them!

  1. We had the very same situation! When my now 6 year old was about 18months, we accidently left the vasaline on the floor after his nightly diaper change. In the morning he got up and had a hay day. I could not stop laughing. Especially when I put him in the bath and the water just continued to just bead off of his body. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I wish I would have video then so I could rewatch it over and over!

  2. Our son also Joshua and 2 years old. Woke up early one day and got into strawberry ice cream syrup. He was going to make himself some desert when he decided it would be better all over the white couch and white carpet and his white pjs. It never came out. It was still a shade of pink 6 years later when we moved.

  3. That is absolutely hilarious! I wish I had a "messy baby story" from my childhood, but I only have "clean baby stories." Even as an infant, I was a super neat-freak. I refused to eat anything unless I had a wet cloth beside me on my highchair. And to this day, I go through napkins like crazy and prefer to eat Sloppy Joe's with a fork and a knife. But what I would give for a story like Josh Duggar's!

  4. My 3 kids have gotten into almost everything.

Most memorable goes to: The two girls covered head to toe with mud (fully clothed), which made a great picture.

Most disgusting goes to: My 1 1/2 year old boy pooping in his bath and smearing it around.

Most recent goes to: The car wash gone bad. I let them wash the car for fun, which entertained them for about an hour, until I realized that they used an entire bottle of dish soap, and had left the car's windshield and windows covered with handprints.

  5. When my brother (now 11) was little he got the butter out, and had it all over him, and the floor, etc...!

  6. When my son was about two, he was playing right outside the kitchen door. My husband had left a half used can of motor oil out there. He poured it all over himself and how it got on his head and hair I don't know, but when I opened the door and looked at him, it was like the ''Night of the Living Dead.'' I took one look and screamed, and I almost fainted.
I never thought of getting the camera, I couldn't get him to the bathtub soon enough. That picture of him like that is burned in my memory forever. It's funny now, but it wasn't funny then. lol

  7. When my brother was 3 years old, our older sister was baptized. He then baptized the cat in a bucket of used tractor oil our dad had drained out of the farm tractor.
