"Josie Duggar's First Hug" Recap

This evening on 19 Kids and Counting, "Josie Duggar's First Hug," TLC aired footage of Josie Duggar at 40 days old. She weighed 2 pounds 5 ounces and is continuing to develop quickly.

Having been told after Josie's birth not to stimulate their daughter in any way, when parents Jim Bob and Michelle were finally able to stroke their baby, they were thrilled. Now, the doctors and nurses are allowing Michelle to pick up Josie and hold her, skin to skin. "This is the most calming moment I've had," explained the elated mother. With her baby in her arms, Michelle was fighting back tears.

  1. I'm so happy she's doing so well! I really hope she's able to go home around her due date. I know the whole family will feel much better when they can get her home.

  2. I really enjoyed last nights episode. I am constantly amazed at how those who don't like the show must view it over and over in order to pick it apart so completely!

I do believe that this was an accurate depiction of the school time. It is a little less structured than it would be in their real home because they don't have all their desks. In a multi-age classroom it is very common for older, more advanced students to help the beginners. This happens in small church schools all the time and research has shown it to be very effective.

I didn't think the girls looked bored when they were "being the audience" for their younger siblings to perform. They had also trained the kids to sing parts and obviously to some effect. Young children like this just don't sing that well unless they have had some concentrated training. I had the impression it was the older sisters idea to teach them that way.

Finally, the section with Michelle holding the baby was very real and touching. What a wonderful moment for her and the baby. She (Michelle) does understand well how the baby isn't meant to be outside the womb yet and how stimulation had to be kept at a minimum for that first 6 weeks.

  3. I found last night's episode to be very touching! So happy for Michelle that she can finally hold Josie. It was also very interesting to see the children, young and old, doing their homeschooling assignments.

  4. I agree! The episode was very touching! Seeing little Josie in Michelle's arms brought tears to my eyes! I also like to see just how the kids do their homeschooling.

  5. It was so tearful! I can't imagine not being able to hold your child for so long, outside of the womb that is. That was one of the most tender moments I've ever seen.
