Duggar Wedding #8 Airs Tonight

John Duggar and Abbie Burnett wedding

John Duggar and Abbie Burnett have been Mr. and Mrs. for three weeks. This evening at 10 ET/9 CT, TLC is airing a 30-minute episode featuring their Oklahoma wedding. If you can't tune in during that time, the network will re-air the show three times (late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning). Full TV listings can be found on our Showtimes page. You won't want to miss this Duggar wedding episode!

We know you all are wondering when the new season of Counting On will begin. TLC still has not announced the date, but we will let you know as soon as they do.

For a preview of the wedding, take a look at our post from last Wednesday.

    1. Were other couple's wedding previews an hour? I can't remember what they did for Joy, Joe, and Josiah's weddings.
I know that the show has done half an hour birth specials shortly after recent births.

    2. This is probably the first view. They'll milk it for 2 hours when another season begins. You know how they love to repeat footage.

      Delete
    3. If the way they have done in the past is any indication, they will probably save a longer version (maybe an hour or two) for the end of the season. At least, that is what they did for Josiah and Lauren.

    4. They wont show as much footage of this wedding because Josh was a groomsman. Notice how they showed the bridesmaids over and over, but only a few shots here and there of a couple groomsmen. I dont know if they would have enough footage without Josh for a 2 hour special. I think it's time for TLC to grow up. I dont understand the harm of him being in the background of a siblings wedding. I think it's kind of sad that their wedding gets less airtime because of who they want to stand up for them.

    5. This was just a wedding first preview. There will be a longer version after they show John and Abbie's courtship/engagement. TLC showed the special in between seasons because they know that fans want to see Duggar weddings and births ASAP. Josh being in the wedding doesn't affect the special's length as he was also a groomsman at Joseph's wedding. The show has edited around Josh before and will probably continue to do so.

    6. Melissa, he was also in Joes wedding as a groomsman, so that’s not why. They always do a shorter episode ahead of time and then do a shorter one.

  3. I watched the wedding from the TLC website and thought it was very nice, although I didn't care for having Abbie's ring brought up in a drone as a gag. I'm one of those people that don't feel that gags have any place at a wedding when the couple are taking their vows. TLC has added more wedding photos, as well, and they're just great. The most beautiful photo, IMO, is the one of Abbie by herself, posed with her eyes closed. If I were her parents, I would put that one on the wall.

    1. The stunts are distracting from the solemnity of the occasion. Very childish!! Abbie is so cute!! Nice couple.

    2. I thought Abbie looked pretty, I loved her dress.
I don't like the pranks in church. But unfortunately it seems to be a part of the Duggar weddings over and over. I was happy to see John and Abbie walk down the aisle after the ceremony, I have never understood why the Duggars run down the aisle.

    3. I do not like silly pranks in any church ceremony. Tacky, tacky, tacky and in poor taste. Kudos to Lauren’s dad who said, “Not when I’m in charge.”

      Delete
    4. I'm pretty sure running down the aisle is a Jewish thing...

      Delete
    5. I agree. The drone took away from the solemnity of the moment. I thought Abbie looked beautiful!

      Delete
    6. Running down the aisle is not a Jewish thing!!

      Delete
    7. One branch of my family tree is Jewish. Every wedding I've been to is much more reverent than what the Duggars do. Tradition!

      Delete
    8. I looked it up,and running down the aisle after a wedding is not a Jewish tradition, that I saw. It might just be a duggar thing.

      Delete
    9. Whoever got the idea that running down the aisle after Jewish weddings is a thing? What I read is that the bride's father and mother escort her down the aisle after the wedding.

      Delete
    10. Jewish tradition doesnt allow for running down the aisle. Dispute being married they see very little of each other if your orthodox due to the male/female separation required. Instead, after pronounced, they walk from the main area to a small closed off room that noone is allowed into. This allows them time to eat together before being separated. Even in more modern Jewish weddings without this separation, the time together alone is still observed.

  5. Lily and Ellie, I really appreciate you taking the time to keep us informed about the Duggars. :) My children and I enjoy watching the episodes and reading your blog. Do you know why the Duggars have not changed over to UP instead of TLC? If they would move to UP maybe all of the family members could be on the show again. Most of their fans would really enjoy seeing everyone again. :) Right now they are about the only wholesome show on TLC. I would much rather see them on UP. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

  6. TLC doesn't seem very enthusiastic about another season. Maybe they'll just have a series of "specials".

    1. It’s now became the same ole thing engagement wedding then baby if they continue to bring “counting on” it should be just that the married couples and how they handling marriage how they handle conflicts parenting with babies tips that they parents have passed on down to them

      Delete
    2. The Counting On siblings are at the stage of life where weddings and babies occupy their time.

      Delete
    3. I would find it interesting to see more of their parenting styles, but I don't blame them for not sharing more because of all the negative feedback.

  7. John David has been a "Mr." for a lot longer than three weeks.

  8. Is this one different from the one aired online? Will there be a third "wedding episode" at the end of the upcoming season?

    1. Who knows? TLC has been very coy about when and if there will be another season. They may just keep running "wedding specials" from material they already have and not do another season.

  9. I simply can't watch these Duggar weddings and births over and over. Once is enough for me. My kids used to watch their Disney movies over and over again. That action about drove me bonkers. If others want to watch repeats that's their choice.

    ReplyDelete
  10. If the Duggar’s are all about family first and their show is created for families to watch; why is this special on at 10:00p.m. When most of the “family” is asleep???

    ReplyDelete

    1. I would think it’s highly unlikly the Duggars have a say in what time of day the network airs the show. I could be wrong but I highly doubt it.

      Delete
    2. 5:20 -- The question is, why is the network airing a family show at 10 PM.

      Delete
    3. The Duggars have no control over the time TLC airs shows. Don't blame them for TLC's decisions.

      Delete
    4. I don't think the duggars get to decide that...

  11. Is Abbie back to work?

    1. Abbie's job was in Oklahoma and she has moved to Arkansas. I believe she quit working a while before the wedding.

    2. Not anyone’s business.

      Delete
    3. You'd better believe TLC will be all over it, if she's the first working wife!

      Delete
    4. I don't think the girls work outside the home in the Duggar families. There hasn't been an exception to that so far so I'm assuming Abbie gave up her career after marrying John.

      Delete
  12. Disappointed. It was not 30 minutes, unless you count ads. It was the same 2 part 20 min special aired previously.

    2. TLC just runs the same stuff over and over. I guess someone watches all the reruns or they wouldn't do that.

      Delete
  13. I am so happy for John David and Abbie!! But 30 minutes doesn't do it justice! I know he's waited a long time for this and TLC should give his wedding the same amount of air time. Congratulations John and Abbie! God bless you both.

  14. Just started watching John and Abbie's wedding - and cringing at what is coming out of the ministers mouth! So unprofessional with his comments, and before their vows have even begun! Come on - presuming they'll have a truckload of children! Rather than looking forward to their first kiss he jokes about their first handshake? Completely out of line! He's playing up his camera time- disappointing - let's hope he redeems himself before the show's over....

    1. Yeah I sincerely doubt these pastors would say half of what they do if these weren’t being televised.

      Delete
    2. The Duggars promote having lots of children. It's their thing and what made them famous. Their religion also promotes it, so it's not surprising that the officiating minister brought it up. Not my cup of tea, but it's not my family, nor my faith.

      Delete
    3. I think he's Abbie's father not a regular pastor. Even if he is, it doesn't excuse his actions of hamming it up IMO.

      Delete
    4. I thought the same thing, OP. Most of the ceremony was someone joking around.

      Delete
    5. Isn't he Abbie's father? Guess he needed some "camera time".

      Delete
    6. Agreed! He was out of line!!!!

      Delete
    7. Love, love, love Abbies hair for the wedding! Beautiful! Johndavids..... Not so much!

      Delete
    8. I totally agree. There were a couple of other times I questioned the Pastors that have been used at the Duggar weddings for similar reasons. Even going back to Jessa and Ben's wedding when Jessa and Ben decided to have their first kiss in private. The Pastor talked about their smooching and what they might be doing after they ran out. In my opinion, Joking around in good fun that doesn't hurt anyone is a great stress reliever, but does not seem appropriate in the ceremony itself.

      Delete
    9. It seems that Abbie said "I love you sugar muffin" during her vows. The whole atmosphere at the wedding was a bit off IMO. Then there was the drone thing. It was like they all were playing up to the TV cameras.

      Delete
    10. I'm so glad that the pastor who officiated my wedding stuck to the Order of Service for Marriage. When my friends got married, it was the same thing. Everyone knew exactly what to expect and when to expect it. It's nice to hear the words of that same religious ritual time after time, like the words to an old hymn everyone knows but only hears on special occasions. It wasn't until I was much older that these "winging it" ceremonies caught on. I don't like them. It's not a stand-up comedy routine, it's a church service/wedding.

      Delete
    11. IMO, that Abbie’s Dad is the officiant, it makes his comments even more disparaging. I would be so embarrassed if it were my dad.

      Delete
    12. I felt the same way.... I believe the gentleman with the grey hair was Abbie’s Dad. He was only on the stage for a short period of time. It was the pastor with the dark hair that cracked jokes that I thought were not necessary but I guess for some people it breaks the tension. Still I’m not a fan of that kind of joking at a wedding.

      Delete
    13. I'm beginning to doubt that any of the Duggars, the people they marry and the pastors have anything in mind but to play to the TV cameras at their weddings. I find that rather sad.

      Delete
    14. I agree with the comments here. It did seem like with every Duggar wedding , the pastors do overkill because of the camera. Wish that they wouldn’t feel so much pressure or obligation to act like that for TV. Unless it could be that they’re told to come up with some funny stuff. But in a marriage ceremony? Please no. Doesn’t feel right.

      Delete
    15. I think they feel ultra pressure or something to do that..

      Delete
    16. Not everyone likes everything so formal. The comments from the pastor were light hearted and something that would happen in the weddings I go to. Maybe it's a cultural or class thing but a little laughter in a wedding is perfectly normal where I come from. We don't feel the need to have "perfect" weddings. There are often moments where you cry, smile, and yes.. even laugh. I may not have done everything exactly the same but it was a lovely wedding.

      Delete
    17. The Pastor was NOT Abbie's father. The Pastor DID ivite Abbie's father to come up and preside over the vows only, but that was the only part of the ceremony he was involved with except for giving away his daughter. If I recall, he said they did so with joyful hearts and sincere blessings. Short and to the point. Very appropriate.

      Delete
    18. It's been disappointing to see that very few Duggars and their associates take these mega weddings in mega churches seriously. Would you act that way during any other church service? I wish they'd all attend a mass or a service at another church someday, to see what a solemn service really is and how beautiful it can be when you don't joke around, fly drones, drop down on ropes, etc.

      Delete
    19. Abbie’s dad presided over the vows only. The dark haired pastor, the rest of the ceremony. Her parents did not seem to overly laugh at the jokes- smiles only.

      Delete
  15. Anyone else notice how Jana was throwing side eye and shade for most of the footage? Only after they kissed did she genuinely smile. The rest of the time, she looked so over it. Another wedding, another bridesmaid?

    1. I noticed that too. She looked sad. Poor girl!

    2. Are serious. Jana was fine during the wedding. She probably is tired of always being the bridesmaid and never the bride though.

    3. Saw some eye rolling for sure.

    4. Yes. I noticed that as well.

    5. What on earth are you talking about? . The camera panned on her a few times and she looked genuinely happy for her brother and new sister-in-law. Making negative statements based on split second camera angles is really unkind.

      Delete
    6. I thought so too. So it wasn't just my imagination then.

      Delete
    7. Perhaps Jana didn't care for the lame humor and the drone. Can't say as I blame her. It wasn't to my taste either.

      Delete
    8. Hmmm... She needs to be hooked up with a good man :)

  16. I thought it was way to short! The wedding part was only like fifteen minutes, and the commercials were half of the show. Very dissapointed! 😒

  20. Dear Duggars, I wished the show was longer last night. Hopefully when it airs in the new season it will be 2 hours long. I would like the rest of the shows to be at least 1 hour long for future seasons except weddings and births should be 2 hours long. I loved the show and cannot wait for the new season to start. I would like it to be at least 14 episodes. Natasha B.

  26. Nice to see the tiny bit of their wedding.
Groomsmen were not shown in total. Zach Bates was supposed to be in the wedding party.
Saw a glimpse of Jill - she was wearing the long navy blue gown from Joy's wedding.
DID NOT SEE Grandma (Mary) Duggar. Strange coverage IMO.

I wish the couple good wishes.

    1. Zach is on a competing network-UP- Josh is persona non grata on TLC, and Jill & Derick quit the show. Logistics and editing must have been hard.

      Delete
    2. I think that the glimpse of Jill was intentionally included to show TLC's willingness to have her part of the show. She was also in Joy's birth special. It's her choice whether she wants to be featured on Counting On. The network cut ties with Derick not Jill and their sons. They also showed Israel during Joe and Kendra's gender reveal.

  29. I am not a member of their belief system, yet I agree completely that any type of prank is inappropriate during a wedding ceremony especially if it is in a house of worship. It does take away the solemnity and sanctity of the ceremony. They need to grow up. I also wondered why Abbie's father, who ISN'T a pastor, needed to step up and comment during the ceremony. It wasn't his place at all to do so. If he had something to publicly say, he should have said it during the reception during the apple juice toast.
I'm also pretty sure that we will see this re-run in an hour format during their next season as we say nothing of the reception.

  30. Congratulations John and Abbie and Merry Christmas to the whole family
