Meet Lauren Swanson

Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson
Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson work on a car together

On January 23rd, Josiah Duggar, 21, and Lauren Swanson, 18, announced their courtship. Less than two months later, they shared news of their engagement.

Lauren Swanson, whose parents are Dwain and Lana Swanson of Georgia, has known the Duggars for several years. The Swanson family was actually featured on an episode of 19 Kids and Counting, "Duggars Do Dinner," which aired September 14th, 2010.

In that episode, the Bontrager family and the Swanson family came to visit the Duggars in Arkansas. The Duggars had met the Bontragers two years earlier in Big Sandy, Texas. Jim Bob and the kids had only recently met the Swansons, while Michelle was home with Josie. At that time, Dwain and Lana had five children, but they have since added a few more to their family. Lauren is the oldest.

You can purchase "Duggars Do Dinner" on Amazon as part of season five.

  1. Isn't she the same age as Kendra? She looks more mature, though. Very pretty.

    1. Are you talking about physical maturity, or emotional maturity? How could you tell the second one by looking?

      Delete
    2. She is younger than Kendra, but looks older. She could pass for 20 years old I think, while Kendra looks about 15 in my opinion

    3. She's a year younger than Kendra!

    4. Kendra is actually older than Lauren. But I agree she looks younger. Indeed, she looks extremely young in her recent pic from her baby shower, probably because she's wearing a very "girlish" dress and from her expression. Kendra has also come across as young in many other ways, such as how she kept giggling at her wedding and called her father "Daddy".

However I agree with Anon at 9:13AM that just because Lauren looks older than Kendra, doesn't mean she is more mature in terms of emotional development.

    5. 6:07, calling your father “Daddy” is a southern thing.

    6. I agree. Kendra is much to young. Lauren is much more mature.

So happy Josiah found love a 2nd time. Some people forgot he had a failed courtship with Marjorie Jackson. Him & Lauren make a good match. The next Duggar who will be in a courtship will be very lucky he or She aka Jana will be happy & Smile & found that love in their lives. Wish them all the best.

  3. When I first saw the title of this post, I thought it was going to be a bunch of facts about Lauren to help us get to know her better. Disappointed that it’s just general information about how long she’s known the Duggars.

    1. I know right? Plus, we already met her! Let's get to know her now.

      Delete
    2. You mean like what her interests and hobbies are? What her goals in life are? Perhaps those things will be revealed later.

      Delete
    3. What facts are there to learn? She will say that she wants to be a good wife and have as many children as "God gives" them. You can't expect anything else.

      Delete
    4. Lily & Ellie, is there a way to get some more information like suggested above, like her interests and hobbies?

      Delete
    5. Maybe who (outside of her immediate family) inspires her?

  4. I didn't realize how short Josiah was until he was standing next to Michelle.

    1. I don't think any of the duggars are particularly tall. I know what its like my dad was 6'4 but I got the short gene rom my mom so I'm only 5'2, I don't mind being on the short side, but it is different for guys.

      Delete
    2. I think I read somewhere that he is 5'6". Lauren must be about 5'?

    4. That comment wasn't really necessary or kind.

      Delete
    5. That comment was simply stating an obvious fact and was in no way a judgement! People get accused all the time of being "negative" here. What about the people who are too quick to be defensive, when no offense occurred?

      Delete
    6. 11:52, how was it not kind? If he’s short he’s short, and who really cares?

      Delete
    7. It was rude. Height is a sensitive subject to men.

      Delete
    8. And...how tiny Lauren is compared to her parents.

      Delete
    9. It is strange that the Duggars offspring seem to not be as tall as their parents. Genetic speaking, it is not unheard of that a son may be shorter than his father but he would be typicaly taller than the mother.

It is however unusual for a child to be shorter than both parents..about a 1 in 4 chance. Lauren's parents both had a short parent.

  5. Laurens dad could be Jimbobs little brother, they look very similar.

    1. Maybe she's so full of energy that she's apt to bolt before the picture is snapped? Maybe she's always running off to do a chore? Catch a kid? Who knows.

    2. Is that all you look at?😳🤨

      Delete
    3. She is a bolt of energy! Michelle is full of spunk and vitality. Much more than I have at 15 years her junior. He is holding her down!! She’s a little kite that’ll fly away! Josiah’s a lot like his Momma too!

      Delete
    4. Seriously? That's all you can comment about, the fact that Jim Bob has his hand on his wife's arm??

      Delete
    5. Lol it does look like JB is holding her down.

  8. If you are going to marry a good Christian guy, it will have to come from people that you have grown up with that have the same values and understand where your family is "coming" from, except for Jinger and she seems to be in a more "normal" relationship as a married girl and also while courting. I just love Jeremy and Jinger....they just seem so "real".

    ReplyDelete

    1. I disagree. We'll be celebrating 27 years this fall and we met at our school jobs during high school. Although we're both Christians who purpose to daily live out our walk with God, if we'd known each other's families growing up, we likely would have never married as both were very dysfunctional. Many families knew and shared fellowship with the Duggars, yet had no clue of their dysfunction (with Josh). The truth is every family has some level of dysfunction because it's filled with human beings, some more so than others. Children growing up together and families being friends for years is no guarantee of anything. The Duggars and the Kellers shared similar family values- Josh did not.

      Delete
    2. @ OP - I thought it was a family friend who let the Josh cat out of the bag. And then Jim Bob went on TV for the interview program and said that he knew about lots of families with problems like Josh's, "and worse."

      Delete
    3. Jinger and Jeremy look so happy much more then some of the other other married Duggars I think. Jinger is finding her wings! Yeah Jinger she got herself a great man not to mention good looking too.

  9. So you have to PAY to watch the Duggars now? I thought all episodes of 19kac weren't able to be purchased

  10. So good to see Josiah's fashion choices maturing to reflect a more masculine style and color pallette. Maybe Lauren is helping him now.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Pink is a color created by God, just like every other color, it’s not “in masculine”

      Delete
    2. You know in 2018 men can wear any colour and still be masculine. He really should loose the bowties though, and perhaps the face fuzz, they don't suit everyone!

  11. It's a shame some of the Duggars boys take after Michelle in the height department, but that does nothing to diminish their good looks, sparky personalities and Godly character!!! Plus some of us short girls like the short guys hehe

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why do you feel the need to say it’s a shame? Who cares if they’re short, other then very shallow people.

      Delete
    2. A "shame," really??? Rude!

    3. I am 5’2”, my husband is 5’7, both of our moms were 4’11” & our dads 5’11 & 6’. My son is 5’6 & daughter 5’2”. My son has never let his height hinder him. Plenty of confidence, Army Cavalry Scout veteran, college degree etc etc. most of all he is a kind generous man. Heighth, or short statured people seems to be the last thing people ridicule or bully.

  12. Who cares how tall he is. I can't believe how much importance people put on height. My husband is 3" shorter than me and we've been married for 40 years.

    1. It's just conversation! Nothing to get upset about.

    2. I don't think it was an insult....just an observation.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous 11:34 I think the people discussing his height are the ones who care lol. It sounds like you're a bit sensitive about height, perhaps because its been an issue in your marriagem? People that aren't sensitive find it very interesting! Especially with celebrities we've never met in the real world, I've often wondered where I would fall in if the Duggars were lined up by height! Anyway, cheer up darling, it's Sunday so I'll be praying for you to find contentment today, God bless!

    4. I am content. ..and polite.

    5. 11:34 PM -- I agree with you. The Bible tells us that God looks at the heart, not the outward appearance. As Christians (which I assume many of us call ourselves), shouldn't that be our goal, as well?

The Bible also tells us, in Philippians, to think about what is good, and true, and praiseworth about others. That does not include their physical appearance, which, by the world's standards, may not be ideal.

I could stand to lose about 25 pounds. I would be pretty sad if that was the first thing people mentioned when looking at my picture or discussing me. Thank you, Lord, for seeing my heart!

    1. Yes. But most likely will be moving to Arkansas to live in the family compound when she marries Josiah.

    2. I would love to see one of these young Duggar men move away and strike out on their own. Jinger has blossomed since moving to Texas, to see one of these young men getting a job or starting a business on their own would be wonderful.

      Delete
    3. No, her family moved to Arkansas a short time ago since they already had so much friends there.

      Delete
    4. It has nothing to do with the Swanson’s having friends in Arkansas. They moved to Arkansas so the two could get to know one another better and speed up the courting/engagement process. The Swanson’s moved there couple of months ago.

  14. why do they have to marry so young? does she not want to go to college and finish her education? Do these duggar men want to have any jobs out side of working for the father? everyone cannot own car lots and be house flippers. some time this show is going to end and then what will they do?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I worry about what all these women will do if something happens to their husbands. They will have to rely heavily on the extended family to provide, without skills, jobs, or education, and with all those God-given children. If they waited 4 years and got degrees, that could never be taken away from them. You don't need to marry at 18 or 19. There is time. I really don't understand why no parents are encouraging this. Seems their first concern should be for their child's future, and how it will be secure without depending on another human.

      Delete
    2. Who cares if they want to marry young? Does it’s really effect your life in any way? Some people just want to get married and raise their own kids instead of letting a school system or day care do it.

      Delete
    3. Each person has there own path and there is nothing wrong with marrying at her age. I used to buy into the line that you should marry later but I was wrong.

      Delete
    4. That is the million dollar question? How will the Duggars and their in-laws support their large families when they are no longer on TV?

      Delete
    5. @ anon 8:27. Apparently they believe the TLC money will be coming in for the rest of their lives. Then when it goes away what will they do? The "family business" didn't support them very well prior to the TLC gig and there have been numerous additions to the family.

      Delete
    6. 8:27 AM, the same way they did before TV. 2:16 PM, I do not agree that a college education can never be taken away. What if someone is in a car accident and sustains brain damage? Nothing in this world is guaranteed or permanent. That is why it is wisest to put our "treasure" where moth and rust cannot corrupt, as Jesus said.

      Delete
    7. Not any of our business. No one really knows all about their finances, work, etc. People assume that they know everything but they don’t. It is not our business. Whatever happens to their large family when their TV show ends is up to them & their ability to have implemented a good financial plan . Same goes for all of us in our individual financial situations.

  19. So happy for Josiah and Lauren. I can't wait to see how the Lord leads them. Also, I think it would be amazing to see a Duggar / Bates wedding!! It looks to me like the next possible match could be Katie Bates and Jason Duggar(I wonder if they have thought of this) If not, maybe the little ones.. maybe future Isaiah and Johannah or Jackson and Addallee in 10-12 years from now? It would be so sweet to see a Duggar- Bates wedding. :):)

  22. Honest question - do the IBLP family conference events have a workshop for the women and girls on scarf tying? They all seem to favor scarves and tie them up in the same ways. Surely it isn't a coincidence.

    1. Somehow I doubt that's an honest question. :) When scarves started seeing a big surge in popularity a few years ago, that knot was one I'd see a lot on the internet and around.
