Duggars in Texas

We are well into November, and although chilly temperatures are expected, many regions in the United States are experiencing colder-than-normal weather. In Laredo, Texas, where it's usually in the mid-70s this time of year (about 23 degrees Celsius), it's currently in the low 50s (about 11 degrees Celsius) and cloudy. Jinger Vuolo is bundled up!

For those wondering where Laredo is, it's in southern Texas, along the Mexico border. Joy and Austin Forsyth were in Texas last weekend, and they met up with the Vuolos in Dallas for a friend's wedding. Jinger played music with Ashley Salyer, the gal who was previously courting Nathan Bates.

    1. Not really a small world. You use that expression when you just happen to be in the same place as someone else, when it's coincidental. This was a wedding. They were all intentionally in the same place.

    2. Oh. My mistake!
I just couldn't come up with the right phrase to say that it was cool that Ashley is being mentioned after the end of her courtship.

    1. They’re called skinny jeans and no they aren’t too tight. That’s how they are supposed to look. Judge much?

      Delete
    2. Doesn't she look great in them?

      Delete
    3. I remember when she started wearing jeans they were pretty loose and slowly but surely they started getting tighter and tighter.

      Delete
    4. Thanks for your judgement!

      Delete
    5. The jeans are very tight, that's not judgement that's a fact. Why she is dressing like this, who knows.

      Delete
    6. Tight would mean they don't fit properly; those jeans are "fitted," and that's simply the style of the pants.

      Delete
    7. I can't believe how many Christians are so quick to judge Jinger on her clothes. Are you sure you are Christians? We are not supposed to judge each other. I really can't believe all the nasty comments because you don't agree with someone's dress. Really people, there is so much more in the world to worry about, like what happened in that Texas church. And what happened in NYC on the bike path. And what happened in Las Vegas at a music festival. Put it into perspective people. Keep the judgement to yourself. Please be kind and uplifting to each other.

    8. I dont understand why people seem surprised or offended when someone comments on her wearing tight ripped jeans. This is the same person who wrote a book "Growing Up Duggar" who talked about the importance of dressing modest and why they prefer wearing skirts and dresses. Lol

    9. Anonymous 9:21, you're right, I've noticed that too. We don't fall into sin all at once, it's usually little compromises one at a time that lead up too it.

I actually think it's not right ginger that u wear jeans and pants try to show the light of the Lord cause u don't look Christian to me when u wear jeans and pants u show ur stuff to other guys in the world how do u think ur husband will feEl if other guys look wear they shouldn't cause for Christian's they shold only wear skirts all the time.

      Delete
    13. She looks great, those complaining are jealous and probably wear a much larger size.

      Delete
    14. I think they're too tight, too. Most pants young women wear these days are the same way. It's not flattering, and it misses the Duggar modesty mark by a mile!

      Delete
    15. 9:17, well good thing Jinger is married now, and she and her husband can make their own rules instead of just following after her parents opinions.

    16. It's true, I am very disappointed at her. The first photos that she posted with LOOSE pants. And LOOSE shorts I didn't like it. Now she is posting TIGHT jeans later she is going to post short skirts showing her leg and later shorts that show her legs.

  9. So, parts of the US are seeing colder than normal temperatures; no big deal. Low 50s is not cold. No need to bundle up. You put on a sweater (a light one will do) and get on with it.

    2. In most parts of Australia, 11 degrees Celsius in the daytime is downright freezing. Currently 36 degrees Celsius here (97F) and summer hasn't even started yet, it's still just spring! So it's all relative :)

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I wouldn't call jeans and a light sweatshirt "bundled up."

      Delete
    4. So, it was 90 the day before or in Australia, 11C. Get a grip!! Today, it is colder than 11C here and I just back from a long walk.

It is not relative. It is about attitude. By the way, 11C is not freezing cold. It has to be at least 0C for things to freeze.

I find this silly. Here, it is not unheard of to have -20 or -30C temperatures, with wind or even colder in winter as well as 90F or warmer in the summer, with high humidity. It is not unheard of for temperatures to drop fast in a few hours, several decades of temperatures.

  10. That's kind of funny for you to use the term "gal." My grandmother would always call immoral women "gals" and would say it with contempt. I wonder if any other readers parents or grandparents used "gal" in a negative way? But I know Ellie that was not the way you were using it. The word just brought up long ago memories. I live in Ga and we've still been running the ac. But it did rain today and brought in cooler weather. Last year at Christmas, we were wearing shorts!

    1. "Gal" is a very Southern term. Ellie lives in Tennessee, so that is probably why she sometimes uses it in her posts.

    2. Might just be your grandmother. Both of my grandmothers (in their 80s) say gal as a female version for guy.

      Delete
    3. Many women find the word "gal" not just dated, but actually offensive. It is particularly offensive to African American women due to the fact that it was used in the 19th and 20th century as an insult.

      Delete
    4. I think girl or young lady would be more respecful.

    5. Interesting! I always heard it used as a more "country" way of referring to girls or women, but not in the way your grandmother used it.

    6. Looks like mixed reviews! Interesting on both sides!

    7. Oh, for pete's sake! I'm in Los Angeles and hear the term "gal" used to refer to a woman. It's the flip side of "guy." This being offended at everything is absolutely out of control!!!

    8. 7:34 I'm African-American and I don't find it offensive.

      Delete
    9. Yeah. It is hard to imagine that African American women particularly find the term "gal" offensive. But I'm not African American. Can any of our African American sisters tell us if they find it especially offensive.

      Delete
    10. I am Caucasian and I find the term "gal" annoying, but not offensive. I'm not even sure why I don't like it, only that it sort of rubs me the wrong way.

      Delete
    11. 4:32. No one was offended that I read. The poster just wanted to know if someone else in their family had used the word in a negative way because it had brought back memories to them. That's all. But I will agree with you about offense being out of control in this country. It seems like a person can't say or do anything without it being taken out of context.

I personally think its great that she is wearing what she wants and it in no way detracts from her faith, and she has never looked immodest.

Those jeans look too tight..I don't think that's modest as the bible teach us specially she is the pastor's wife should give a better example as Christians that represent Christ in. Our life not only by words but in our clothes too.I just hope her sisters doesn't not follow her example of changing skirts to jeans. All of them look beautiful inside and their modest clothes. In this world we have to make a difference so wearing skirts only we are making a difference because in women most jeans, shorts, clothes that show all your body but as Christian women we should cover and dress with modesty no matter what other people think or said. We should pleased the lord.

      Delete
    3. Pants do cover, what are you talking about??

      Delete
    4. 9:49- It's sounds as though you'd like Jinger to please you, rather than God. She's an adult, capable of making he own decisions. Yes, some of them might not fall in line with her parents' preferences. People interpret the Bible differently and what you may think is immodest, may not be to someone else.

      Delete
    5. I think the Lord would be pleased to see people doing what makes them happy, as long as they are not hurting anything or anybody. If Jinger wants to wear pants, then she should be able to. She is not hurting anybody or anything by doing so. You can be a good Christian without wearing the prairie dresses that the Duggars and Bateses used to wear.

      Delete
    6. But what about Jill, Jessa and joy wearing skin tight tops when they are pregnant. Modesty goes out the window once they conceive so maybe Jinger is pregnant?

      Delete
    7. Waring skirts only makes a difference in the world? My Lord would be so disappointed with that concept. Doing your best, being kind, these traits make up an individual, NOT what you wear.

    10. There is no specific “dress code” on what you can and cannot wear. Although the Bible talks about modesty and modest apparel, no where does it say the exact length of skirts, dresses, shirts, etc. modesty means different things for different people. We cannot be the one to judge or claim “what God wants.” As long as the girls feel they are modest and pleasing to God, that’s all that matters. What you decide to wear and what you consider to be modest conforms to your own standards and convictions. And that is fine. We don’t tell you what is right. Really, When you get down to the heart of “Modest Clothing,” it is best to remember that modesty is truly not about a hemline. It is something that inspires ones heart to amend their whole lives to a greater level of purity.

    11. I hope Jessa starts wearing skinny jeans too. She is adorable, and works to get her body back after babies. She’s only 25..Ben younger than that. He should be able to enjoy “the wife of his youth” while they are still “the youth”.

      Delete
    12. So, Ben can only "enjoy" his wife if she's skinny/a certain weight, a certain body shape, or While they're young? Or if she wears Skinny jeans? This comment is sooo wrong on so many different levels it's not even funny.

      Delete
    13. Well@7:00. I think 9:42 has a good point. How many young husbands, or any husbands, say “gee, can’t wait for my wife to get fat and only wear stretch skirts and sweat pants”? Loving your wife and staying attracted to them are two separate entities. Now, I’m an equalitarian so it does go both ways. When my husband got beyond my “I’m still attracted to you” weight I sure let him know. It’s taken a lot of treadmill time, but he’s back😉

      Delete
    14. Anon 9:42. Seems to me that Ben is enjoying his wife just fine. So you want her to walk around in tight skinny jeans, why so other men can look and lust after her? She is beautiful just as she is and carries herself with respect and Godliness and keeps private revealing things between her and her husband. She is a virtuous woman.

He was trying to establish an order and basically teach people not to go in their club clothes.I don't mean to offend anyone I just have been misjudged in the past. But my faith has never deterred.Jinger is not out at the bars or clubbing. She is simply wearing jeans.

  33. 9:49 PM I don't think Jinger has changed. I believe she wore skirts and dresses because that was the dress code that her parents set for her. Being a child or a young lady living under her parents roof, of course she would obey them. Out of respect for her parents, I've no doubt Jinger will wear skirts or dresses when she visits them. Your saying that..."we should please the lord" is true, however, maybe Jinger and Jeremy's opinion on pleasing the lord is different than yours. 10 different people can read the same Bible verse and each person can have a different interpretation for that same Bible verse, it doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong in their interpretation. As you also stated, referring to Jinger and her sisters.. "All of them look beautiful inside." Isn't that really all that matters? To paraphrase what Jeremy said - Jesus didn't save women just to have them wear skirts. He's right! One more thing I'd like to add - The jeans Hunger has on in that picture are called "skinny" jeans, they are NOT as tight as you may think, they're made to look that way! Obviously Jinger wants to please her husband. If he doesn't have a problem with her wearing those jeans, why should you?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @7:40, How can ten different people ready the same Bible verse and all come up with a different interpretation, yet nobody be wrong? That's ridiculous! You wouldn't say the same about a passage in a chemistry book or a cookbook, would you? Truth is not subjective, and neither is God's Word. Either something is a sin or it isn't. God either wants us to believe one way OR another, it can't be both. He gave us a Church to interpret the Bible. It's too bad that so many refuse to listen.

  35. Maybe I'm the odd man out here, but I kind of wonder what's the point in taking a picture of her with her looking down reading a book? Is that so unusual for her or picture-worthy? She's not engaging anyone else or really doing anything, so I'm not sure why someone thought this would make a great picture (or a great picture of her). Not that I'm looking to the Duggars to entertain myself, but the picture is boring. It's taken from a distance, so it's even more random. If we're supposed to noting her outfit because it's gotten colder there, I'd be expecting a closer shot with her doing her typical "modeling" poses. The whole thing just doesn't make sense. It could easily be titled "Jinger reads a book"...like so many other billions of people.

    3. Not over analyzing here, but it's not exactly a flattering picture of Jinger- you can't see her face, her lovely smile, her lively eyes, or a hint of her sunny personality. It's just a picture of a girl sitting in a corner reading a book...boring. If he thought it was cute that she was bundled up or something, they should have taken it outside with her leaning against the brick of the building or something else with some architectural interest or waited until she was really bundled up, outside on a sunny day.

    1. Most young women wear pants more often than dresses or skirts, so wearing pants as a norm would be considered more "modern", whereas 80 years ago, most women wore dresses. Both are great. I'm more annoyed with people freaking out over her wearing pants because they think it's immodest. Jinger is an adult, and does not need to wear one thing or the other just because fans want her to.

    2. Regina- Everything is relative to one's experiences. When I was growing up in the 1950's-60's, girls were not allowed to wear pants in the small-town public schools I attended. When I was a junior in high school, the rules were relaxed. I felt so liberated wearing jeans to school that first day. I still think of jeans as "modern" attire.

    3. Anonymous #2- Your comment made me smile. I remember my mom being absolutely horrified in the early 90's that I was going to wear pants to Church one Sunday morning. Forget that I taught a very active 4-5 yr old class that often meant I might be portraying Goliath falling down as we acted out David and Goliath, me "busting out" of my grave clothes as Lazarus rising from the dead, or acting out any number of other Bible stories with all 25 children participating in some form or fashion. LOL In my class, we marched, pretended to climb-whatever the songs or story called for and the children loved it, remembered it, and loved coming. In her day, the children sat rigidly in their chairs while listening to the teacher read the story from the King James. Different time, different generation, different way of learning. :) In the dress-pants debate, I've seen some women wearing some immodest "modern" dresses/skirts and seen women wear their dress/skirt immodestly (not fully covered for whatever the activity was or sitting immodestly with a straight up the skirt view). Pants can be either modest or immodest too, cut/fit/material notwithstanding. I think it really goes more to intention/motive, as well as an awareness of the biological effect on the opposite sex. While I definitely want my husband to be attracted to me and interested in me, I don't want my next door neighbor or his teenage son to feel attracted to me. LOL I think modesty is simply dressing with that in mind. I'm loving my neighbor when I choose to avoid making him uncomfortable by "advertising".

  38. I often wear pants, but I'm still a bit disappointed. I love how the Duggars wear skirts so fashionably. If I could pull it off so well I probably would wear skirts most of the time.

  39. Thank you for this blog and thank you TLC for showing the Duggars as they grow up. Jinger and Jeremy are such an inspiration as they shine the Light in this dark world. Countin On is literally The only show I watched on t.v. and I hope it continues. I find Jeremy and Jinger very refreshing and thankful for how God is using them for such a time as this.

    1. I agree. It looked stringier or something when it was straight.

  41. Maybe Jinger should be judged by her actions and words and not by her clothes. Maybe if Jinger is going to be judged at all it will be by the Lord. Whether she is wearing skinny jeans or a long skirt shouldn’t have any bearing on what’s in her heart. Plenty of good, decent women wear jeans and shorts and bathing suits.

  42. I am a woman (senior citizen) and can't remember the last time I wore a dress or skirt. I just find pants/shorts more comfortable. You can dress them up or down, depending on the occasion. I remember the Dark Ages, when we had to wear dresses to school. Those were the days when women wore nylons and girdles with garters to hold the dang things up. It was a form of torture. Later, I thought the invention of pantyhose was the next best thing to sliced bread- now, I can't remember the last time I bought a pair! Life is much easier now, thankfully!

  44. I like that Jinger is making some choices of here own, like wearing blue jeans. Would really like to see their new house! Could them give a photo or video tour? Ask them!

    1. Thank you for saying that in such a sweet way. I like her new style, since I know she likes it, and that's all that really matters, but I think it's fine for everyone to have an opinion. I don't like when people act like they actually have a say so in another persons clothes.
