37 Duggars and Counting

 Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar

Last week on our Bates blog, we posted a breakdown of Gil and Kelly's ever-expanding family. Since that post, one of the kids announced a pregnancy, so the Bates are now 34 members strong.

In comparison, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar celebrated 33 years in July and are quickly approaching 40 family members. They have...

6 married kids (Josh, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, and Joy)
0 children who have announced courtships or engagements
5 unmarried adult children (Jana, John-David, Josiah, Jedidiah, and Jeremiah)
4 teenagers (Jason, James, Justin, and Jackson)
4 kids ages 7-12 (Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn, and Josie)
9 grandchildren ages 4 months-8 years
1 grandchild on the way (Joy and Austin)
6 children-in-law (Anna, Derick, Ben, Jeremy, Kendra, and Austin)

  1. Pretty soon Jimbob & Michelle will have their 10 th grandkid hoping Joy has a girl. But I want to see another courtship with one of the married Grown up Duggar kids keeping my fingers crossed for that one.

    1. Ummm, you want to see one of the married children enter a courtship?

    2. For me personally, I am getting tired of all the courships, weddings, babies, etc. This family is great and I love their deep faith, values, etc but there must be other things going on in their lives besides weddings and babies.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I would like to see more than just courtships, weddings and babies. I'd like to see what everyone is doing for careers and continuing education. What are their hobbies, their interests, their friends, that sort of thing.

      Delete
    4. Same here. Give us something other than constant baby showers. What do the adult Duggars do to support themselves and future spouses? Can we follow John-David at a day at work? HOw is Joe supporting Kendra -- let's see his skills and talents at work. Let's watch Jana flip the tattoo parlor into another commercial shop, etc. Let's watch Jeremy and Jinger solve church problems in Laredo, work out friendships there, solve problems with the building. Does Jinger run a woman's Bible study, etc. Let's meet some of their new friends and see how their lives and goals are expanding.

    5. Agree! Please show us some of their real lives, not just events and activities created for the camera.

    6. The original show was interesting because we got to see how a large family functions. The new show is just about engagements, weddings, and babies. Nothing novel anymore.

  2. I want to add another comment. My guess for the next courtship announcement is JohnDavid because I read on the internet he was visiting a girl from Texas to court not sure If the rumor is true. Let's all hope It is.

  5. Michelle looks great!
It looks like from now on there will always be a pregnant lady in the Duggars family.

    1. There always was its just it used to be only Michelle and then either Michelle or Anna, now someone else can have a turn. I did notice one thing when Anna had her third Michelle looked younger than I have seen her look in years. Thing is she still does. My guess she's finally getting more quality sleep.

      Delete
    2. I agree. Michelle has been looking really great the past few years.

  6. Really, the grandchildren should not be counted as Duggar's if they don't have the last name. Same with Jeremy, Ben, Austin and Derrick. They are part of the Duggar family tree but they are not Duggar's. They are Sewalds, Dillard's and soon to be Forsythe's.

    1. Don't be silly, off course they should all be counted. They are all part of the family too!

    2. *of course, not off course

    3. 2:20 on- Without sounding rude- I have no idea where you got that idea. The will be Duggar/Sdwald, ect. grandchildren! I mean really!

      Delete
    4. Um, they are also considered part of the Duggar family since they do have their mother's who are Duggars. Um, I have never ever heard of grandchildren not being considered part of one side of the family simply because they have a different last name. My daughters three kids are still my grandchildren!!!

      Delete
    5. lol I have to laugh at the emoji but if my children were counted under my last name and not my husbands last name he wouldn't be happy.

      Delete
    6. Speak for yourself. I am a member of each family represented in my family tree - even though I carried the family name of only one of those families. My husband did not take my family name when we got married, but he definitely became a member of our family.

      Delete
    7. My eyes got stuck rolling.

      Delete
    8. It does not matter if they carry the last name or not.......THEY BELIEVE THEY ARE ALL FAMILY.

      Delete
    9. I don't think we need to be quite so literal, when calling them Duggar grands one is simply meaning grands of the Duggars, no more no less. Every one knows what their last nam

      Delete
    10. It’s still the same family

      Delete
    11. My sisters and I all have kids and they are most definitely considered my parents’ family! By your line of thinking my brother’s married daughter isn’t either because she no longer has the family surname. That comment is highly insulting.

      Delete
    12. 2:20 -- Are you for real?

      Delete
    13. I think even if their grandkids don’t share the same last name they’re still considered Duggars because they’re biologically half Duggar.

      Delete
    14. Yes, the “Duggars” don’t seem to comprehend or follow cleaving and leaving. The ONLY son-in-law who didn’t become a “Duggar” is Jeremy. Ben, Austin, and Dereck should have changed their last names upon marriage instead of the girls.

      Delete
    15. Anon @ 2:2O Agree. These kids don't have the Duggar surname and won't carry it on, which considering the the media interest in anything Duggar may not be a bad thing!

      Delete
    16. The grandchildren have Duggar blood running through their veins. Their children's spouse should be counted in too. You should never make them feel left out...Jane

      Delete
    17. Really? They are still part of the Duggar family.

      Delete
    18. When a couple gets married, they become sons and daughters of the spouses family. My two son in laws and my daughter in law are considered our sons and daughter. We call them our sons in love and our daughter in love. So course the Duggar's sons in law and daughters in law should be counted.

      Delete
    19. 😞The spouses/grandchildren are part of the duggar family regardless if the have the last name. It makes now sense while while talking about the family to include everyone from their kids/spouses to grandchildren. They are talking about their family as a whole since they have been married, not just the name.

      Delete
    20. Anna as already got married, not soon to be....

      Delete
    21. They are part of both families, so you can include them when you list either family. Very straightforward.

    22. 8:58. True enough!

      Delete
    23. 2:20 -- Think about it. Are you saying Ivanka isn't a Trump?

      Delete
    24. Ok let's get real the children belong to God and they are His gift to the parents to bless the marriage. The objective is for the parents to raise the children such that the children then choose to gift themselves back to their Creator through accepting Christ as Saviour and Lord of their lives.

    4. SuperJames526: The very fact that UPtv already has the bates means they won't take on the Duggars, they won't have two programmes that would be so similar.

  10. I have watched the Diggers from the very beginning and still do. I enjoy watch the kid now they do a fantastic job it tells they were brought up right. I do not watch the Bates because they are only having babies trying to beat the Duggars. Love all of the little kids. Keep up the good work kids. I will be glad when Jana gets married she is beautiful and sweet. If they were to pick a fan to come to her wedding I want my name in the pot. Just a 72 year old grandma Duggar fan

    1. Aw, then you're really missing something not watching the Bates family! They're a genuine, loving, funny family and there is much more to them than the number of kids they have.

      Delete
    2. And they're not trying to beat the Duggars.

      Delete
    3. The Bates and Duggars are pretty much on the same page regarding not using any form of birth control. So, it stands to reason that the Bates family is growing exponentially, just like the Duggars.

      Delete
    4. Hey 72 year old grandma Duggar fan - I really doubt that the Duggars and Bates see their friendship and lives as a competition.

  13. Yes they should ..!only the last name is different but the grandchildren mother or father is a duggar so they will always be duggar if the adult children ever divorce or happen to lose their spouse ( which I know they will never get divorce just saying ) the grandchildren mother or father is still a duggar and they will be because it's their child :)so they should be counted .!now u may take away the spouse because technically they aren't a born duggar by name and their mom isn't Michelle but the grandchildren will always be a duggar !:)

  17. I must say.... People would literally flip if Michelle or even Jim Bob were referred to as a Ruark, Michelle's maiden name! Not sure if I spelled Ruark properly, if not, I have no doubt I'll be corrected lol!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But did the Ruarks have a television show?

      Delete
    2. I don't see it that way. My mom's family has a large reunion on a regular basis and it's called the "(Smith) family reunion," even though not everyone is a (Smith). There's a (Smith) family genealogy even though not everyone is a (Smith). I don't think anyone would flip if you were to list the Ruark family and include each branch that includes those with different list names. Unless one continually has all boys, that's just the way any family list would be.

      Delete
    3. Of course Michelle is a Ruark and JimBob is part of the extended Ruark family.

  18. I bet there will be three new grandchildren next year, to Joy and Austin, to Jessa and Ben, and to Joseph and Kendra. I'm not sure about courtships - I think it'll be a while before there is another one.

  19. @ 6:04 AM....I totally agree. What about Grandma Duggar?!

  20. With so many important things going on within this family on the internet lately, I find this post silly. The family needs to make a statement about the Derick/Jill situation and being dropped from the show.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, they can't post about this statement you want unless the family makes a statement. Should there just be crickets on the blog until the family makes this statement? Or a blog post stating that the family has not made a statement? There have already been several posts about the situation.

  22. Why do I have the feeling that TLC is not going to have another season of counting on? It has been very boring recently. Time to call it quits?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I heard the Duggars and TLC mutually decided to part ways after the most recent season. The family is looking forward to leading a normal life off camera, and TLC has been unhappy with declining ratings.

      Delete
    2. It’s been boring for a very long time yet always is renewed. No worries.

      Delete
    3. Where did you hear that 8:15? Until either party announces it themselves, don't pop the champagne cork.

And TLC filmed Joe & Kendra's honeymoon in Greece, so do you really think they'll let that collect dust on the shelf, if they all can make a pretty penny from it next year?

      Delete
    4. Comments stating the show has been canceled shouldn't be posted on here unless there's some proof to back it up.

      Delete
    5. Anon @ 12:16 while I have no idea if the show has been cancelled or not having unseen footage in the can is not a guarantee of another season. After everything about Josh came out the show was cancelled with a lot of footage to be shown, and to date it has never seen the light of day.

      Delete
    6. TLC may just air Duggar specials instead of a weekly series. It that way they can use some of the footage they have already filmed and take advantage of the fans interest in special events, like a wedding.

TLC has done that with other former "stars" on their network.

      Delete
  23. Wow this is what y'all want to talk about what name the grandchildren should be listed under

  24. Anon 2:20 Any child born to your child will be your Grandchild. I have 1 daughter and 2 sons and when they get married and have babies, each one of their children will be my Grandchildren. Just like it will be for you and your children one day.

  25. Ok, if you go to a family reunion and it's your mother's side of the family and there is a big sign up with your mom's maiden name, are you not a member of that family? I may have a different last name but I am a part of my mither's family too. Just saying

  26. Some of you are rather critical. I have been watching the Duggars from the beginning. I really enjoy seeing the kids growing up and seeing their weddings and starting their families. I live in the same are as they do. I don't know them personally but have good friends who do know them. They are good people and there is nothing pretentious about them. 31. 8:48 Check out the Putmans. None of the children leave the family home. If one does try for job reason he has to get permission from the combined families. The father gets extremely upset if one of the children want to leave. They all share a bank account. Is this normal?
