Courting Kendra

"Hidden deep underneath that masculine-looking man, there is a heart in there. Joseph is a good guy."
-Josiah Duggar

Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell (now Joseph and Kendra Duggar) have been married six days, but it wasn't too long ago (March 7th, to be exact) when they were just entering a courtship.

Joseph took Kendra to a car auction and then to the place where he grew up to "pop the question" and offer a promise ring. The "Johnson Road house" was demolished after the Duggars moved out and the land used in the expansion of Cross Church (then called First Baptist Church of Springdale).

In the video below, watch the moment when Joe and Kendra become official and share a hug.

  1. I loved the way he asked her! He did a good job not letting it on. Kendra is so sweet, and I love her personality! The roses were such a nice touch:)

  3. Ugh!! After all this time they haven't realized they're saying "whenever" when they should use "when"?? SO annoying.

    1. LOL, I heard that Monday night and thought yep, that's going to end up on the blog "whenever" someone posts it!

    2. Wow! You are really easily annoyed. How would you handle something that is actually significant?

    3. I believe that is a regional thing. The first time I personally heard someone use it, I thought it was odd. But after a while, I noticed that several people from the same region who had moved to my area would use it. I think some areas say things differently than others.

  8. I found it very awkward to ask while they were with a big crowd.

    1. Jeremy did it very differently when he asked Jinger to court. He had privacy. It was just Jinger and Jeremy alone on the front porch (and of course the camera crew), and I don't think anyone else was out there with them. The big group is awkward for sure. Then when Joe proposed to Kendra it was an even bigger group (Joy's wedding). No privacy for them at all.

    2. Agree. Everyone's just standing there and he blurts it out.

    3. Lol at calling Jeremy and Jinger's nationally televised courting conversation "private."

  9. While I think Kendra & Joe are truly adorable and hope they enjoy many happy years, how surprising could this really be, camera crew and all in tow to "capture the moment" Joe asked Kendra to court? I think sometimes fans and viewers forget that these "moments" include makeup artists and hair stylists, wardrobe, a lighting crew, a camera crew, guys running sound booms, etc. It's not Joe and Kendra and a few close friends taking a walk together and he brings out a ring and asks her to court. It's Joe and Kendra, their chaperones, and the entire film crew- and it likely isn't the first take either. It really is made-for-TV. These aren't actually "private moments", but they're designed to make the viewer feel that way. I just wish the Duggar family could be real and let the private moments be private for their family and just sell the pictures after the fact. It seems so dishonest to pretend it's just them in the moment and what we're seeing is spontaneous.

    1. ...Or even not sell pictures after the fact. A dose of anonymity from here on out would help this family tremendously.

    2. Ok I agree with some of what you said but get serious - the Duggars do not have "wardrobe" for their show shoots. If they did Michelle wouldn't be wearing her signature button-up blouses and black rubber crocs with trouser socks every day. And the girls would have better outfits than long denim skirts with bare feet. They are most definitely dressing themselves.

  11. I know that this is old news. But it was still so very fun to see it happen. Kendra seems like such a sweet joyful person!

  12. I'm glad he put much thought into the question. I was disappointed with his comments before asking her father....well I guess it's about time I ask while his brother response really?
It sounded like he needed to schedule an oil change instead of actually caring enough to commit.
    Are time tables forced?
Glad to see no regrets and I hope he cherished her commitment to him.
