Josh and Anna in Illinois

Yesterday afternoon, Josh and Anna Duggar and their two oldest kids, Mackynzie and Michael Duggar, flew up to Rockford, Illinois, with pilot John-David Duggar. Jim Bob Duggar, Josiah Duggar, and Justin Duggar also went along.

Yesterday evening, the group attended a Patch the Pirate show at North Love Baptist Church. Patch the Pirate is a series of children's audio recordings by Majesty Music that teaches character qualities and biblical truths. The Duggars have been long-time fans of Patch.

Anna will soon deliver her fifth child, a son.

  4. Wisconsin?? Don't you mean Illinois?? If Anna is due this month, it isn't wise to be flying around even if it's a private plane. Too much can happen.

    2. I think Sierra should get a spin off as she is so talented at helping the Duggars out in various events and still manages to always smile and keep her children in check. I would love to hear more of her story.

  7. How can she fly ? I don't understand how she could have been at least 20 weeks in march and she can still fly in a plane so she's less than 34 weeks
And her belly isn't that huge for someone in her 3rd trimester of her fifth child

    1. If she's carrying a male child she's less likely to show "out front"..in my experience, regardless of how many previous pregnancies, our boys seem to show more in back than front..

      Delete
    2. Anon @ 2:34. I was the opposite to you. With my son I was out at the front like a beach ball, but with my daughter my bump was more rounded and less out front. I think it has more to do with your anatomy and number of previous pregnancies. I personally thought Anna looked huge, but think her dress might have made her look bigger than she is.

      Delete
    3. That is an old wives tale. How you carry a pregnancy depends on your body type more than anything. I had 2 girls and 1 boy and there was no difference in how I carried them.

      Delete
    4. Boys here and all were "in front"; girls -all over!

      Delete
    5. I had two boys and both bellies were very much "out front" and not so much showing from behind

  8. Not being picky here or anything, but what is with Anna standing profile like she is in the photo? I would think it NOT modest of her to highlight her big belly at this time. What's wrong with standing like most are, and simply face the camera?
Why was it 'ok' for her to fly so close to delivery? Not smart, either.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably because Josh and JB are standing profile. There is nothing, wrong with the way she is standing. If pregnant bellies are so "immodest", as soon as an expectant mother got even a hint of a "bump" she might as well go into hiding!

      Delete
    2. Wow, 6:41pm, I'd hate to hear you when your ARE being picky then! Actually, I'd most definitely say you're being picky now, whether you think you are or not;since you harped on everything about the photo and Anna's pregnancy. Hypercritical is the word that comes to mind.
      ~KP

    3. There's nothing wrong with showing her belly. It's not modest to show bare belly. Even Jessa took pregnancy photos. There's nothing wrong with that.

    4. seriously? this isn't the 1800's. Baby bumps should be embraced! She is beautiful!

    6. Ummm?? I'm with the rest of you who commented."I'd hate to hear when you are picky then."😂👌
I'm having a hard time realizing you're seriously asking this question! So,because the family promotes modesty that gives you the right to decide what is and isn't modest? Wow.Showing your "baby bump" fully clothed is immodest how exactly? Just..wow. Get a hobby!

      Delete
    7. Now you're nitpicking on how she's standing? She wearing a perfectly modest dress and probably didn't even give a thought to facing front or facing sideways. Gee whiz. Please send us all your pictures so we can analyze them all and find something to criticize.

      Delete
    8. A 'bump' is beautiful side, front or any other way. It's life, why hide it. There is nothing immodest about it at all.

  10. airlines do not allow a 8 months prego women to fly? since when can the duggars can afford to maintain a small private plane must cost an arm and a leg for a family that says they want to keep the cost down? they do not need a private plane.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Duggar do a lot of speaking engagements and multiple members of their family have learned to fly. The cos of airfare for trips would likely cost much more than having their own plane. How do you know they "don't need" a private plane......

      Delete
    2. @Kathy Borders-think about it; no on really "needs" a plane. It's a luxury item and wildly expensive to maintain.

      Delete
    3. You can also rent planes. We did this as a child and my family didn't have a lot of money or their own tv show. It was probably a small plane not a kardashian type plane.

      Delete
    4. I simply ment it's for them to decide what they need. It's their money, they earn it and can spend it on what they choose. No where in the Bible does it say you can't have nice things. This family is most likely recognized everywhere they go and having a private plane may make travel easier. There are many practicle reasons why a plane makes sense. People should stop judging everything they do.....I know I enjoy the freedom of making my own life decisions without having to justify them to strangers.

  15. Do any of those people realize what a pirate's life involved historically, or currently involves? I don't think it's good to don a costume like that of a person or group of persons notorious for their misconduct, and try to turn it into character building. There is nothing to glorify with a pirate!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you would do a little research, you would find that Ron Hamilton (the man behind the patch) did not originally choose this pirate character for himself. He lost his eye to cancer many years ago, and the children in his church began calling him Patch the Pirate. As he prayed, he felt God calling him to embrace the trial that God had allowed into his life. He turned the image that children now saw him as (a pirate) into a ministry. Majesty Music/Patch the Pirate has turned into an amazing ministry that has blessed thousands (if not millions) of children (and adults) as they've grown more like Christ. So, it wasn't about choosing something to different to do; it was about embracing the trial that God had placed in front of him and allowing God to use it. Ron Hamilton obeyed, and God turned one of the his greatest trials (cancer and losing his eye) into one of the greatest blessings and ministries of his entire life.

We have a well known chain in the UK that sells clothes with prints like that, it is very popular with older ladies (60s) so wouldn't be so popular with younger ladies who are the Duggar girls age.

    2. Anon @ 7:24. I agree. This will not be a popular thing to say but sometimes Anna seems almost defeated to me. I know she is heavily pregnant at the moment and was probably tired when the picture was taken but her smile looks very forced. I am sure there are times when all the feelings of pain and betrayal bubble to the surface, it takes a long time for those types of wounds to heal (sometimes they never fully heal). I hope Josh treats her like a queen although sadly I think Josh is still more concerned with Josh than anyone else.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous @ 11:36 AM- I agree with your entire statement. I think we'd do well to realize that people don't just decide to have an affair/indulge in pornography overnight, many decisions preceded the actual action, all of them self-centered, self-focused, self-gratifying. The heart left long before the body followed. As for Josh's lawsuit attempts, the Second Thief on the Cross sued no one when his sin found him out, nor did he seek to escape, minimize, or negate the consequences or blame others in any way (contrary to the Third Thief). He manned up and took sole responsibility for both his sin and the consequences. Note Jesus' response to his sincere repentance and honesty- "Today you will be with me in Paradise."

My ex was addicted to hard-core pornography and had multiple affairs. It took years, but thanks to the Lord only, I am alright. No ill-will towards anyone at all. 2. Seriously. You guys need to lighten up. There are far worse things to be concerned about.

      Delete
    3. It's never wrong to be concerned about the people among us who have difficulties or physical problems. And be concerned about people who want to label those people. And people who let their kids label those people. This is a pretty serious issue for all of us. May you never join the disabled group, Unknown, and feel any stigma from the public who think your disability makes you look...like a pirate, for starters.

      Delete
    4. I don't think the kids who called him a pirate were using a "label." Back in the 80s when he started wearing his patch, that's what kids thought he looked like. If I'd seen a man with an eye patch when I was a kid, that's probably what I would think of too. That's not a label, that's just an association that a child would naturally make. Don't read motives into it.

      Delete
    5. 4:15 Patch the Pirate doesn't seem to be bothered by being called that. He started a ministry inspired by what the kids called him. He was never "labled". They were kids, they never meant anything by it. Let's not read too much into things.

      Delete
    6. 11:35, when you have a two year old who happens to see someone at church who looks like what they picture a pirate to be like, you’re not going to say “oh my honey, you’re perpetuating a cultural stereotype, and that is not acceptable!!” Smart parents evaluate whether this would be hurtful to the person they were referring to. If it was a problem, they no doubt would have corrected it. However, apparently it didn’t bother this man because he almost used it like a career. Just the way most men who have busy white beards don’t mind when little kids call them Santa, it appears that this man relishes his new role. (Not to mention, from a medical perspective, this can very well be his way of coping with his loss.) When a society gets to the point where innocent children can’t make observations…

I was wondering if they are brides maid dresses. Even for Joe and Kendra. They could be wearing them and getting use out of them before as well as after which make sense or they may have ordered them and decided they didn't want to use them and went with something else. 1. They are not "using" a pirate. Ron Hamilton is a very talented Christian musician and composer. In 1978, doctors discovered cancer in his eye and it had to be removed. That's why he wears a patch. As he traveled to different churches, children began calling him, Patch the Pirate and the name stuck. He has written many musicals teaching kids Christian values, etc. If you want to learn more about his ministry, just google his name!

    2. Ron Hamilton has a story behind why he became Patch the Pirate. I think it was cancer in his eye and then he ended up with the nickname. I grew up on his music and can honestly say it never crossed my mind that a pirate is considered a bad person when thinking of Patch the Pirate. I guess that is sort of interesting, lol. He writes conservative Christian music and has strong values and the radio programs are great. So I guess we always considered him a good pirate. :)

    3. While starting anew with a new naming tradition signifying a new beginning sounds like a lovely thought (and it is), it would quickly become an issue when he wonders aloud and begins asking why his name is different. It might make the child feel he doesn't "belong" as much as his siblings. The actual backstory for the new name would be difficult, at best, to explain to a child or a teenage boy...likely not something Josh would want to do or Anna.

  49. To those who have issues with Patch the Pirate (whom I have no problem with)
Patch the pirate was created by Ron Hamilton who lost his
left eye to cancer. He was given an eye patch to wear and naturally children ( and probably immature adults) called him a pirate.
Rather than continuing to correct children he decided he would accept that he was now a "pirate".
Unfortunately that is the first thing some people think when they see someone with an eye patch and the pirate jokes start.
I admire Ron for making good out of bad thing like losing an eye. It definitely makes me appreciate having both my eyes.

    2. He should have continued to correct the children and skipped the pirate routine. That would have been a better character lesson.

Regina, why do you think that's the first thing some people think of? Because it's been allowed to perpetuate. That's not fair for anyone with any sort of physical condition that makes them look different than others.

    3. Instead of criticizing parental decisions made over 30 years ago, why not rejoice in the way Ron Hamilton has been able to turn something awful into such a huge ministry that has blessed many people (our family included)?

  50. I grew up listening to
Patch the Pirate songs too! A couple months ago our family went to the Waukesha Expo when Patch the Pirate was there! I know some of his music changed, I am familiar with the song ps he used to sing but he added new ones! There was a song called wa, wa,wa, call the wambulance! There was a kids choir going on when we were there too! I wish we can meet the Duggars! Let us know when they are in Wisconson again! I am from South of Milwaukee! My great aunt lives in Illinois! Can you give me the duggars address and their phone number so I can call them sometime?

  51. That is a long way to travel in a plane, with a very pregnant woman just for some of the family to attend a patch the pirate show in a local church. There is another reason for them being in Rockford. This is where Josh went to the christian rehab centre after his cheating on Anna was exposed, maybe Josh was speaking there? I am sure all will be revealed in time.

  52. Anna looks lovely- I hope all is going well for her. I wish they'd staged this picture a little better. It looks so awkward and divided with Josh and Anna off to the side. I wish they'd done a frontal view with Jim Bob slightly behind and to the side of Anna-it would have been warmer and more inclusive. It looks very weird that Josh and Anna brought their children specifically to see Patch, but they're not even with the children and Patch in the picture...they're visually removed from their children. Poor Michael doesn't look very comfortable either. He might have felt more confident if his mom or dad were behind or beside him. He rarely seems comfortable in pictures- he just may not like having pictures taken or doesn't feel comfortable being asked/expected to smile when he doesn't feel that way. Being put in the public eye at such a young age (particularly with the whole Josh-situation), he may be wary of taking pictures, understandable. Just an observation.

  55. To all those who are commenting about Anna flying -- major airlines allow women to fly til 35 weeks pregnant. The Duggars likely flew at lower altitude and the airlines are also worried about lawsuits that are not applicable to private family situations. Thus, it would not be a big deal to fly even a bit later in pregnancy. I highly doubt they would compromise Anna's or the baby's health.
To those commenting on the private planes only for the wealthy: Well, since several of the children are pilots or training to be, then it makes sense to own a plane. The small planes really are not much more than a boat or a fancy car so I think people think they are a million $ or something. They can store the plane on their land and, likely, some of the boys know how to maintain the plane. Also, since the boys are pilots, they must keep up their hours so it makes sense to fly the family around instead of paying to do their flying hours plus paying for the family to travel. I am a pilot myself and I wish the TV show would tell us more about what work the boys do. They likely make good money by flying people or freight around so it makes sense to own the plane as that is a way of making money.

    1. Anon @ 5:12 'They can store the plane on their land and likely some of the boys know how to maintain the plane'. Do the Duggars now own their own airfield? How would they transport a plane to an airfield with a runway to allow them to take off? Also aviation engineers require proper training, you don't just tinker around with a plane. Only one person in the Duggar family is a qualified pilot and that is John David, and Josiah is the only one we have heard of who is training, none fly freight for a living and their planes are for personal use only. Planes can be bought second and third hand but they are still expensive and their proper maintenance and fuel is expensive. Also the Duggars own two, not bad for a family whos motto is buy used save the difference and preach a frugal lifestyle. I am not trying to start anything here but there are some inconsistancies in some of the things you say.

    2. Look up how much a used Mitsubishi turboprop plane like theirs is going for. I found them in the half-million to three-quarters million price range. That's a tad more than a fancy car.

    3. We do not know if the boys have their instrumental ratings or not. I doubt that they are flying freight around or people. Honestly, I would not trust them to maintain a private plane. None of them are certified mechanics.

They could have rented a plane. I know many pilots, including my husband, that do that. He belongs to a Flying Club that maintains planes.

The plane looks like it is a multi-seater and THOSE ARE NOT CHEAP. You have to have money to buy and maintain those.

  57. I wonder why the Duggars are against Harry Potter (for example), but are OK with a Pirate as a role model. Pirates are NOT role models by any stretch.

    1. If you listened to his material, you'd know it's full of character building content and just plain fun. The only "piratey" thing that happens with Patch the Pirate is sailing the ocean blue on their pirate ship. They're always helping people out and being encouraging.

    4. Just like Harry Potter isn't real, Anon 4:56? What's your point?

Harry Potter uses his magic skills for good. Why isn't that the same as a "good pirate"? Just seems like a double standard to me. I am open to being corrected though.

  59. Peter Falk lost an eye when he was young, but never wore a patch or billed himself as a pirate. Sammy Davis Jr., too. He never let the fact that he had one glass eye define him. Nanette Fabray was hearing impaired. All those people (and more) managed to have fabulous careers without having to be anything other than who they were.

    1. But don't criticize this man, whom you don't know, for how he turned his awful thing into something good. They have been able to minister to countless numbers of children and families through this. I find it sad that people are using this blog post to jump on someone with a great ministry. Those who are posting positively are those who have actually listened to his work.

    2. "Patch the Pirate" is only one part of his identity. Ron Hamilton is also known for being a prolific composer of church music, having a Christian music company (Majesty Music), etc.

    2. Your post was rude, demeaning, and presumptuous. FYI- Not everyone who is overweight people is simply lazy or lacks self-control as your post seems to imply. Unless you're his doctor, you have no idea if he suffers from a thyroid disorder or any other disorder that could cause weight gain. Hitting the gym won't budge hyperactive thyroid weight gain, fluid accumulation from Congestive Heart Failure, or a host of other medical issues. I really wish people would get a clue, or better yet, a real education about the human body and its disorders, medication side effects, served with a healthy does of empathy for a fellow human being.

  61. I think Anna wants to have as many children as she can but I wish she would stop after this baby number 5. Or stop after baby number 6. But she probably won't. I just think 6 children are plenty for her and Josh. I wish she didn't feel like she has to be like Michelle and spend her whole life giving birth every year.
