Duggar Daughter-In-Love Turns 29

Wishing Anna Duggar a very happy 29th birthday! On this day nine years ago, boyfriend Josh Duggar surprised her in Florida and proposed. Anna has been through a lot in the past nine years, but she has continued to trust God in the midst of it all, and He is making beauty from ashes. She and Josh will soon welcome their fifth child, a son.

  8. I think 'daughter in love' is a big hoakey. Do they call the guys their 'sons in love' too? Anna is their daughter in law, they should step up to adulthood here. Although I don't know why Anna chose to continue to hang in there, she's still there.

    1. Anna is a better woman than any Duggar could ever hope to be. She surely deserves/deserved a lot better.

    2. Why is it important to you to comment? It isn't as though anything you have mentioned is praiseworthy, of good report or even kind for that matter. If you don't like the title 'daughter-in-love, then don't use the phrase when or if you have a daughter in law. What does 'stepping up to adulthood' have to do with that?
You don't know why Anna chose to 'hang in there' and it isn't for you to know. That's her business.

    3. Anon @ 11:32. Totally agree they are laying it on a bit thick. I feel bad for Anna because she has been taught to repress her feelings, and it is because of this she has been able to stay with Josh. Someday all those feelings will come to the surface, I sincerely hope she doesn't have a breakdown.

    4. I was "daughter-in-love" to inlaws. Just like the grandchildren were their "grandlovies".
It's a term of endearment and it's very special. There is nothing "hoakey" about it.

    5. Because she chose to fight for her marriage and not give up like many choose to do.
There needs to be more Christian wives who are willing to pray for their husbands and fight for their marriages. I sure did and I'm glad I did!

    6. anon 1:39:
Don't feel bad for Anna, she is a daughter of the King! Christians have feelings same as anyone but know that we aren't to be ruled by our feelings. Such presumption and speculation on your part. I see steadfastness in Anna and someone I admire. I see someone who isn't taking her vow before God lightly. I see someone who "when the going gets tough" doesn't give up. Don't feel bad for her, feel bad for those who give up and don't have Christ as a Light to help them through their lives.

    7. TO anonymous 1:39 PM
"Repressed feelings" isn't why Anna has been able to stay with Josh. Her relationship with the LORD is why. It is obvious that you don't understand this concept, which is understandable for non Christians. You cannot be expected to know what you don't know. I pray that you will one day.

      Delete
    8. Anon @ 1:39 obviously you have no idea what it is like to be a Christian wife. We are not taught to "repress" our feelings. We are taught to pray and forgive when we have been wronged. That DOES NOT mean we excuse our husband's behavior.
I love Anon @ 4:10s response that she fought for her marriage. I also am glad that I fought for my marriage. I'm even more grateful that the Lord forgives even when we don't deserve it!

    9. So SICK of the trolls that come to this fan page to spread hate. Wish Lily and Ellie would not allow mean hateful comments. This family is hated because of their Christian beliefs and their are many people who have nothing better to do than come to a fan page and leave nasty comments. ENOUGH!

    10. Getting divorced is not "giving up," 4:10. It takes a lot of work to walk away and start over by yourself. I think "giving up" applies more to staying in an unhappy marriage and resigning yourself to the fact that it could always be that way, and you'll never truly feel fulfilled.

      Delete
    11. Anon 9:33
      again with the 'Feelings'
      (never feeling fulfilled)
Gotta get over the feelings folks!

    12. Amen to those Anon responders who truly understands what it takes to be in a Christian marriage. I'm so very glad that God is healing their marriage. God hates divorce.

      Delete
    13. Actually, unless anyone here is a Duggar or their friends, nobody here knows if she took the easy way out, is repressing her feelings fought for her marriage etc. Btw, Christian women are still Christians and walk with God and are daughters of the King if they go through a divorce. I doubt God wants worthy and righteous women to spend their lives with a lousy man.

      Delete
    14. Oh my goodness, such self-righteous comments just because someone posted an opinion you didn't agree with. Calling someone you do not know a non christian, or saying they have no idea how to be a christian wife is just wrong, plain and simple. You do not know their, faith and you don't know the status of their marriage, or if they are married at all. It is christians like you all who get christians in general a bad name.

      Delete
    15. @9:33 It may be work to walk away, but it is certainly giving up on your spouse and your marriage. It's not easy to say, "My partner isn't what I thought, but I'm going to stick with him and work on making the best out of our marriage that we can. I know I'm not perfect either." It's not resignation, but being willing to fix something that is broken instead of throwing it away. After all, marriage isn't about being fulfilled, firstly because no human can truly satisfy you except Jesus Christ, and secondly because you're supposed to try to make your spouse happy. Jesus died for us while we were sinful, not because we were good. If He did that for us, how can we say we have a right to do differently? Marriage can be tough, and I have my own struggles doing what I just said. We're all naturally selfish. But God can really turn things around!!

    16. Regina, God allows divorce in certain situations such as the one Anna is in. Although in God's perfect plan divorce would not exist, I have no doubt God would never wish any woman to martyr her life for an unworthy man and stay in a harmful relationship.

      Delete
    17. Regina at 2:47 PM you said "Amen to those Anon responders who truly understands what it takes to be in a Christian marriage. I'm so very glad that God is healing their marriage. God hates divorce."- First of all, Christian marriages are marked by adultery and unfaithfulness. If you're both in a "Christian" marriage, nobody's committing adultery or unfaithful because you both respect and honor God. Secondly, yes God hates divorce, but he also hates adultery and every other sin human beings commit (Proverbs 6:16) because they separate us from Him and He loves us. Divorce is not the "biggie" on God's list, insulting the Holy Spirit is.

Anonymous at 7:06 AM- You're incorrect. Leaving an unfaithful spouse is not "giving up on your spouse and your marriage". God's Word is very clear in the New Testament that a woman is given the option (allowed by God) to leave the unfaithful husband. If God says it's allowable/acceptable, then who are you to judge the wife who leaves? God, who is all-wise, all-knowing, perfect says that she may leave her husband for this specific offense and He will not hold it against her. Because if the husband is unfaithful, he has already broken their covenant-there is no longer a covenant between the wife and her husband. This whole argument, with Christians essentially casting the injured spouse as either a "fighter" or a "quitter" is sickening. A wife who leaves is no less righteous than a wife who stays and the wife show stays is no more righteous per God's own Word. Both take courage, just in two different ways.

  28. Daughter-in-love? I think that's trying too hard.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why would that be trying too hard? It's just an expression of love from an in-law. Considering all the trouble some people have with their in-laws, I think it's great that Anna has such a close, loving relationship with Jim Bob and Michelle.

    2. A lot of families refer to their DILs as loves....its a beautiful endearment!
      Nothing wrong with it☺

    3. The Duggars have referred to Anna as daughter-in-love since the beginning of their marriage. Personally, that was the first time I had ever heard of that and thought it was such a loving way of welcoming someone into your family. So many times do people not get along with their in-laws, we've all heard the in-law jokes. I think it's a beautiful way of saying to someone, I value you more than a peice of paper.

  34. Happy birthday, you are such an encouragement, a true example of Christ's love. I would love an update on how their marriage has healed/and continues to be healed. If the network isn't willing to, maybe you guys could do a blog series on their family, if they were willing. They are such an encouragement to those of us striving to live as Christ. Grace is such a difficult character trait to develop, I think we could all learn a thing or two from Anna.

  53. If you think daughter-in-love is hokey, do not use it. I believe the choice to express a love relationship over a legal relationship would be a wonderful way to have others show their commitment to you for who you are. You do not need to know why Anna is still there. It is no one's business. She knows why she is there.
Divorce IS giving up. It is giving up on the partnership, the individual and the vows you may have made. It is hard, it is painful. It is even harder to look at all the wrong, the pain, the brokenness, the deceit, the lies and the betrayal and look into your own heart and really examine why you came to the marriage, the commitment you made, the vows you spoke and the children created as a result of the relationship and consciously choose to try and heal. To look at each splinter you remove from your heart and soul in the clear light of day, to stand raw and vulnerable on the Rock upon which you have staked your faith and to say not from a place of comfort but in a state of absolute brokenness "Father, my trust is in You." is an act of tremendous faith.
This FAN site is graciously facilitated by Ellie and Lily, who deserve a simple thank you for their efforts. They need neither directions nor criticism from anyone, just gratitude.
For the persistent few who delight in negative reactions to matters regarding this family, I cannot take seriously anyone who is only interested in whining, contradictory opinions with regards to anything said and done by this family. If you strongly disagree with the Duggars with regards to their lifestyle and beliefs, then ACT accordingly in your own life. Take ACTION by going to sites that support your worldview. Support others of like mind. Create your own fan site supporting those you admire. Do not waste your time coming to a site that supports interest in a family you don't like with beliefs you don't share. However, you probably feel you are entitled to say and do as you please. I am entitled to feel that those who do so enjoy self-inflicted pain, are self-indulgent and sad. I will truly pray that you find healing for whatever insecurities and hurts you may have that leave you feeling powerless and unable to do anything other than react to circumstances beyond your ability to understand. I will pray that you know peace and choose to seek those things that fulfill and encourage, that you will seek wisdom and share support and love rather than bitterness and be able see joy and love, no longer needing to create ugliness.
May Anna know peace and delight in the joy of the Lord as she is surrounded by those that love her. May she continue to heal, may she experience continued health in this pregnancy, and may she be shielded from the hateful, selfish words the world hurls at her and hear instead the loving encouragement of those who celebrate her as a strong young woman.
