The Vuolos' Wedding Cake

In this scene from Monday's two-hour Counting On special (click here to read our recap), Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo arrive at the reception location, which is nearby the church where the ceremony took place.

They walk out on stage and are introduced to approximately 1,000 guests as "Mr. Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo." Then they proceed to cut their "naked" vanilla wedding cake, baked and decorated by a friend of the Duggars. Does it not look amazing?

  1. They had a lot of people! Did they have more cake in the kitchen area for guests too? I would assume they would :) and what kind of cake was it?

    1. They had cupcakes for the others. After all, this is a Duggar reception, of the famous parking lot & root beer float kind.

The cake flavor was vanilla-almond? Or something vanilla-y.

    2. Lol that's true! I thought maybe they'd have cupcakes. Thanks!

    3. I was thinking the same thoughts! Surely they had more cake for all those guests. But yes, the parking lot with rootbeer floats! I think Jessa should have at least had a cake for her guests. Nothing elaborate but just politely so. Good to know cupcakes were available.

  2. I would love the recipe for that cake!

  3. I can't believe she critiqued Jeremy on how to cut the cake. Also, if I'm not mistaken she cleaned lipstick off of his tooth after their first kiss.

    1. I'm sure it was just the stress of her big day, but she really comes off as quite controlling in these clips. It's shocking because in the past she had such a sweet demeanor, I pray she continues to stay "sweet".

    2. What's wrong with her cleaning lip stick off his tooth? She was looking out for her man ;)

    3. Hey they just became one, what that means is beyond us! She directs while he cuts it is all one now!

      Delete
    4. She wasn't critiquing him. She was letting him know how to cut it. It was a large cake. With all of the fruit located on it, I am sure he was a little concerned about where to cut it. Wives help their husbands, and that is what Jinger was doing.

    5. Lol I totally helped my husband cut the cake and then I helped him stay picture ready on our big day. What bride doesn't? He would have been so embarrassed otherwise had he messed something up or not realized he had lipstick on his teeth. I'm sure he would have done the same for her.

    6. I have to say that in the clips Jinger did come off a little bossy. Not saying Jinger is bossy BUT when I watched the video, that was my first thought. It could have just been the stress of the day or the fact that all eyes were on them.

    7. deb again after reading your comment i have to say - if you have nothing good to say.....-

    8. I didn't get controlling at all!

      Delete
    9. After the unity candle issues I'm sure there was stress.
Nothing is holding a cake like that together and having the cake fall over cutting into deep is a given.
Both should have been given direction on candle and cake during rehearsal. That was obviously overlooked by the director and Baker.

    10. I had a ribbon around my husband's and my wedding cake and it took awhile for us to cut a slice. We laughed about it later. One of those 'dont sweat the small stuff' moments.

    11. When she lovingly watches him as he speaks, then she's criticized for being too submissive; when she tells him how to do something (that Jeremy might actually never have done before), she's criticized for being overbearing.

    1. But that is how they have done weddings before.

    2. I agree. That's how weddings have been done in the past. Original poster is just stating a fact.

    3. What, you didn't watch that episode? With the drama of the freezer door that was left open and the melted ice cream that had to be replaced at the last minute? And the heaters that had to be rounded up in a hurry to heat up the parking lot when a November cold front came through? That episode was epic! It certainly was "our business" - we watched a whole hour of it!

      Delete
    4. That's how they did one wedding. Because that was what the bride wanted

      Delete
    5. She didn't want the problems those turned into, though. Remember, Sierra had to re-do all of them because they melted the day before?

  5. Honestly, what's so special about this cake? Many couples have better cakes than this one. I'm glad they liked it though. Not noteworthy here.

  7. While some may not like the look of a "naked" cake, I thought it looked gorgeous! The cupcakes did too. I read or heard Jinger say her style is "simple, but elegant". I would definitely sum up everything about Jingers wedding simple and elegant. The dress, the decorations, Jingers hair and make-up! Great job! Only thing not simple and elegant were Jingers shoes, but I LOVED the shoes too! The whole sha-bang was classy! Well done Jinger, Jeremy, Cindy and "Wedding Planner" Wendy who is also a friend of the Vuolo family.

    1. Agreed! Anon 2;41. I was wondering why she just stood there with that "smiling" pose. I know they're probably stunting for the cameras, but really...this is her wedding day. She should be beaming - like in the recent "birthday" videos they have put out. She was radiant in those!

      Delete
    2. I am sure she was beaming inside. After several hours of taking pictures and the stress of the wedding, I would imagine she was tired of smiling.

      Delete
    3. Are you referring to the picture or the video? If you watch the video, you can see the moment where the picture above was taken. At that spot, her smile seems more forced, as though she saw something troubling as she was gazing over the crowd, but then her real smile comes back. If you watch the whole video, she looks pretty radiant!

    4. None of the Duggar girls ever smile with their eyes when their mouths are smiling.

  9. The cake was beautiful! I like that it was different than the traditional style of cake.

  13. I Love the show but a couple of shows were kind of boring. I Loved 19 kids and counting in the beginning when they used to travel.I hope to keep on watching!

  14. Maybe after the candle lighting Ginger thought she just married a guy who would need a little external support to cut the cake. He noted she was a quick thinker, so maybe she quickly realized this too (ha!).

    ReplyDelete
  15. The cake looked like a stack of thick pancakes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Guessing Jinger is highly stressed in the above clip. Her overly large smile is plastered on and held, but as anonymous above said her eyes aren't smiling. The whole, walk out on stage, pause on your mark to kiss each other, walk over to the table is so staged. It's kind of sad. What should be enjoyable is like a performance. It's a little sad too that she's instructing her husband how to feed her the cake (cutting yes, feeding no). He's pastored weddings, I'm sure he's got a good idea how to do the cake-thing. Granted he wanted to be careful of her dress, but he's neither uncoordinated, clumsy, or ignorant. It's sad that the words they exchanged and recorded for posterity were her instructing him, instead of sweet, romantic exchanges or even shared laughed at the fruit falling.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Maybe he liked her helping at the cake cause he struggled at the candles a few minutes earlier!

    ReplyDelete
  18. the cake was different. not sure about the look of it but the sweet lady who made it for them took on a big job and seem to do it with such joy. i know they are both thankful for her hard work.

  19. I through the were going to have a small wedding. Jinger and Jeremy lie.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, come now. They didn't purposely deceive people into thinking they would have a small wedding. That's not exactly the kind of thing you can lie about and keep it hidden. Jeremy even mentioned in Monday's episode that they had originally planned to keep it small, but then it grew. They are not the first couple to originally want a small wedding and then things changed. Let's not slander.

      Delete
    2. They said 400 invitation were made and 1000 showed up.
That's not being dishonest. They only wanted a small wedding and obviously had no control over the ending guest list.
You should make an effort to listen to the interview before casting stone's. Insulting critical.

    3. Why do you care? It's their business.

      Delete
    4. As soon as they got engaged, they said their wedding would be small and intimate. Or Jeremy said that. I guess he got outvoted.

    5. If you send one invitation and address it to the family then it explains it all people!!!! Why digging things like this? Their wedding, their rule! If you don't like them, STOP watching and stop posting!!!

  21. The latest Dugger wedding was Beau-ti-ful! However, we would of like to see the Pastor at the end of the ceremony make the sign of the cross and give his blessings to them, in place of just waving his hand in the air - Give this good Christian couple the real blessing!

  27. I sure hope those weren't some of the 2300 roses that were kept in plant food overnight. You have to be extremely careful about flowers or leaves chosen to be put on a food product. They have to be free of any pesticides or herbicides or other chemicals.

  28. I, too, hoped Mr. Vuolo Sr. would do the sign of the cross, but I then remembered that's probably too Catholic, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist or Church of England for them. ..They do their own thing.

  29. From the picture posted, it looks messy and not bridal. To each his own, but I prefer actual wedding cakes.
And anyways, is it not time to give the wedding a rest? You would think that the couple were the only couple ever to get married!

  30. I love the cake. It is beautiful and unique. Traditional cakes are so boring and cutesy cakes are just immature. This was perfect. The cupcakes they showed on TV were beautiful too.

  35. Gosh reading these is so funny how everyone writes they own story about what is going on. I can see now how the bible been told snd made out what it isn't saying. Imagine yourself on a daily basis being followed by a camera every minute even if you know it you have a busy life and can you think how many different crazy opinions people would have on your every action to be twisted around? Michelle duggar is not a weak person and her daughters aren't either. It is judt their human nature. Some more introverted but still they have a strong woman who gives wisdom in her womanly ways to her.husband as was said in the weddings and people can be strong and mild at same time. These people are regular people. They are entertaining to watch but it must be hard every minute even if paid wouldn't you think if it was you?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The thing is, they arent being followed by a camera every minute. They film irregularly, and nearly everything they film is staged in some way.

  36. Marriage is not a sacrament to this group of people...it's a sacrament to Catholics if I remember correctly.

    1. You're correct. It is a Sacrament as I'm Catholic, but believe we are the only denomination that understands that truth.

      Delete
    2. Perhaps but i think we can agree that it shouldn't be a "rigamarole" to anybody regardless of your denomination

      Delete
    3. Marriage is not a rigamarole, but sometimes the hectic planning for the perfect wedding sure it. In this day of Instagram, Pinterest, etc. all the tiny details are getting out of hand. I totally get the rigamarole comment, and when my kids get married, I hope they do it old-school, not Pinterested out.
