A Visit From Miss Cindy

In case you're wanting to watch one more scene from Tuesday's new episode of Counting On, we have one to share.

In this video clip, Jinger Duggar and Joy-Anna Duggar take Cindy, a woman with whom Michelle Duggar has been best friends since first grade, to John Brown University's Cathedral of the Ozarks to make wedding plans. A representative from the college walks them through the sanctuary and answers questions.

  1. Brings back memories of our wedding. It's good they were able to split duties for the wedding and reception. It can get very overwhelming for a bride and groom to try and do everything themselves.

    1. If it's "overwhelming" for a bride and groom to do everything that needs to be done, that should be a signal that the wedding has gotten too big and too unmanageable!

    2. Small weddings get overwhelming too.

    3. I agree with the original commenter. I had between 100 and 200 people at our wedding, and I definitely didn't try to do everything myself. Who does? Especially when the groom is in another state?

    4. Having a wedding planner is a new idea since I got married about 30 years ago. At my wedding, the church handled their end, the reception venue handled their end -- we just picked out the food and the linens, the florist handled their end, the cake baker handled her end, and the band handled their end. I don't think everyone needs a planner? Just contract with reputable professionals, and they'll do their job.

  2. Hi Lily and Ellie,
Love the work you do on this blog! Not sure if you're aware, but there is quite a disturbing movie trailer right before the clip plays. I'm sure you're not in control of what TLC puts in ahead of time, but you may want to warn your viewers.
    Thanks for all you do!

    1. There was a "disturbing" movie clip during the actual show Monday night, too. In fact, it was possibly the one and only nationally-shown commercial that was not about TLC's own programming. Wonder why TLC would allow such a clip to be shown during Counting On? On purpose?? They seem determined to ridicule and undermine this show in some passive-aggressive "I don't want to film this or work on the production any more" way. Haven't we been saying that the scripts are getting more and more crazy?

  3. Isn't Jinger 22? Didn't she and Jeremy "court" and marry within a year? That's doing it right and being patient?

    1. I also thought saying she patiently waited when she's still so young just seemed out of place. There was hardly any waiting involved with getting married in your early 20s.

    2. I got married young too, but I dated others first and I regret that now- same goes for my husband. I think that's all she meant by it. She waited for the one she knew she wanted to marry. My husband and I knew right away we wanted to get married and we are still happily married.

    3. @9:02. I can't understand people such as yourself saying they regret dating other people before dating "the one" they chose to marry. It's nonsense. Instead why not be thankful you had enough experience to know when the right one came along.

    4. @3:12, great point about having the experience to know when the right one comes along.

    5. 22 is old enough to know what you want in a spouse. My wife and I were both 20 when we got married. We just celebrated our 25 year of a faithful and happy marriage. If you people don't like their lifestyle and choices about how to find a mate, why do you even watch the show?

  4. Why was Miss Cindy with Jinger and not Miss Michelle?

  5. A question - How can you get married in just any church, when you don't belong there? When my friends and I were of marriage age, it wasn't done. The chosen church was where the bride went, usually since childhood. If you didn't want to get married in that church, then you chose your groom's, or else you got married in a hotel ballroom. How can you book any church these days, even if you don't belong there? And how can you bring in your own minister to perform the ceremony? Is this some sort of money-making system for churches these days?

    1. They got married at the cathedral at John Brown University. It is not a church, so to speak.

    2. My husband and I wanted to get married in our own church but it was too small for all our guests so we rented a larger church down the road. They had us sign a waiver for damage and things and after we paid we were free to do whatever we wanted as far as having our own pastor officiate and decorations and such. Although their sound system guy was nice enough to volunteer to come and run the electrical part of things. (We surprised him with a check). Anyway, the reason I said all of these things is so people will understand that sometimes it isn't feasible to marry in your or your spouses church and to some it's really important to have a church wedding so this is the route many take. Believe it or not when we went to pay after our wedding the pastor said we left it so nice and clean he declined the money and allowed us to have the church for free.

  6. It does happen in some states depending on demand and your checkbook.
Our generation centered the location around familiar members and long friends.
In the Duggar family, I'm unsure from previous clips if they worship in one specific location.

  7. I can't quite get a clear picture so I am wondering, what is around Miss Cindy's neck? It looks really big and red.

    1. A multi-colored scarf

    2. It's a scarf. You can tell in the first scene when she's hugging Jinger and Joy.

    3. From what I saw, it was a piece of floral fabric worn kind of like a necklace and tied behind her neck. :)

    4. It is a multicolored scarf, tied in the back (as seen in the show). It was very pretty.

    5. Also seen in the video clip above when Miss Cindy enters the Duggar home.

  8. Love Miss Cindy!! Always so refreshing to see her on the show. Did anyone else happen to notice the oversized floral bandaid on her neck? I did and wonder if she's had thyroid trouble? And where was Miss Michelle Duggar with Jinger on this episode? Michelle usually always accompanies Miss Cindy.

  9. Doesn't Miss Cindy have a job of her own to report to, or a family of her own to tend to? Why would she want to orchestrate Jinger's wedding? That's for the family and parents of the bride to handle. This show is making less sense each time it airs.

    1. She's a wedding designer, it says that underneath her name when the introduce her.

    2. I have several friends who had family friends, and even friends of the mother of the bride in face, that acted as a wedding coordinator. I didn't see the show, but looks like that might be the case here as well. :)

    3. I believe she stated in the wedding episode that she was helping out as a gift to the couple.

    4. In some families, everyone helps out. In my large non-religious family, one aunt is very good with flower arranging so that is her gift to every one of her 20 nieces & nephews who got married so she is totally in charge of flowers. Another one is great at baking and makes the cakes. A cousin and uncle (from two separate families!) do all the music, AV stuff, PA stuff. Etc! Big families have family and friends help out. It's really fun.

    6. She's a close family friend. What's so confusing about that??

    7. Agreed, it didn't make sense to have Cindy doing what Michelle should be doing. Didn't we see Michelle at the other wedding venues? In fact, she accidentally punched a hole or holes in the wall when hanging decorations. Wonder why Jinger went to the church with Cindy this time? It really is a special mother-daughter time. Oh, and remember what happened during the episode where Jinger tried on the dresses? Michelle had to be reminded that she was supposed to go into the dressing room to help. She was all over the couple at the engagement, but then absent-minded or just plain absent during this part of the wedding planning. That does make one wonder!

    8. What's confusing is that mothers usually do what Cindy did in this episode.

      Delete
    9. There has to be some reason why Michelle didn't appear on that episode and why she sent her best friend instead. Wonder what was more important to tend to? Wonder if someone was ill?

    10. It said under Ms Cindy's name wedding coordinator, maybe she has switched careers and does this now for a job, and she wanted to do it for Jinger as her gift to her. Michelle has alot of other things to handle as family etc come into town for the event !

    11. They wouldn't begin looking at the church so close to the wedding that family and friends were already coming into town. Something else must have been going on to keep Michelle away. She sure didn't miss the engagement!

  10. Miss Cindy is a very pretty and attractive lady. She dresses in tasteful clothing that matches and fits. I would like to super-impose Michelle's hairdo and clothing on her and see how she looks.

  11. I love Jinger's outfit in this clip. She is able to make her skirt outfits look really cute and flattering.

  12. I usually never had a negative comment to make but on Monday's show, Joy-Anna said something that really struck a nerve with me. When she was talking about the wedding being in the afternoon, she thinks that people are not expecting to be fed, but it they are, they are not going to get anything? I think that is really tacky to say that. If you are inviting like 800-1200 people to a wedding, you most certainly should expect to feed them or don't invite that many to your wedding. Jill's wedding was desserts and root beer floats and Jessa's was just ice cream. If you can't afford to feed that many, they only invite your closest family and friends. Has this bothered anyone else? I would like to have an answer from the family on Joy-Anna comment. I really think that was rude. Again, I love the family and the show, but, again, don't invite hundreds of people if you are not going to feed them.

  13. Not only did Miss Cindy step into this role, where was Jeremy's mother when they were planning the rehearsal dinner? Traditionally, that is the groom's parents' responsibility to organize and host. The fact that the pasta tasting went on at the Duggars, with a friend of the Duggars making the food, tells me that TLC was in charge of everything, so they could film it.

  15. I don't understand why they were talking about doing this wedding on a "shoestring" budget, then bragged about how many invitations, flowers, and dress pearls they had. They paid for a church (with an elaborate set-up, both inside and out) plus a rented reception venue, yet could only serve nibbles like cheese and crackers and pickles? Seemed they "shoestringed" when it came to serving the guests, but went all out when it came to making themselves beautiful or happy. Even if TLC helped, I'm once again disappointed that the Duggars, a "Godly" family, don't seem to give to others what they give to themselves. I skimped on my wedding dress so I could have a nicer reception for my guests. The lasting memories I have from that gathering are worth more than a bejeweled, personally-designed dress that I would have only worn once. I don't understand the Duggar way of organizing weddings and prioritizing costs, and never will.

  16. At the dress trying on, I felt like Jinger said it quietly that Michelle should join her, or Michelle (50) could be starting to have hearing loss, and it also seemed like she was waiting for an invitation to join her, which is not wrong, every person would feel different about it ! And it may be a tight space, as she tried on dress 2 and 3 she was already on the couch to see it, or that could have been editing.
