Jinger: 'I'm Pretty Well Love-Struck'

Did you enjoy last night's episode of Counting On? (Click here to read our recap.) Our favorite scenes were the ones that included Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and the younger Duggar kids, in addition to the older Duggar siblings.

After asking Jinger to enter an official courtship during last week's show, Jeremy Vuolo shares his first meal with the Duggar family. Jim Bob especially enjoys chatting with the new couple (see video below).

Recap: 'It's Official'

Counting On "It's Official!"
  • Jinger is in an official courtship with Jeremy Vuolo, a Pennsylvania native and former professional soccer player. After finishing his soccer contract with the San Antonio Scorpions, he decided to retire from athletics and become a pastor in Laredo, Texas.
  • Jinger and Jeremy, along with Jim Bob and Michelle, visit Jessa and Ben to share their exciting news and eat ice cream.
  • Later, Jeremy experiences his first dinner with Jinger’s family. Everyone enjoys getting to know Jinger’s boyfriend while eating Italian takeout. Jeremy has Italian roots, so the meal is very fitting.
  • “I’m pretty well love-struck,” says Jinger. “I am like head-over-heels, guys.”
  • “I could see this courtship leading to marriage,” says Jana. John, Joseph, and Josiah say they like Jeremy but that they are still “checking him out.”
  • “We don’t want to just hand our sister over to anybody,” says Joseph.
  • Jinger and Jeremy chat with the Dillards about courtship via video chat. Jill and Derick understand the struggles of a long-distance relationship.
  • The Duggars have a home gym in one of their warehouses that various family members enjoy using. After dinner one night, the Seewalds head over to burn some calories. They take turns “wearing” Spurgeon in the baby carrier while they work out.
  • Ben, who played football in high school, shares his desire to start a Christian youth football camp and meets with Steve Conway to make plans. “I can kind of see Spurgeon being a football player,” says Jessa.
  • Jana, John, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, and Jason head out to a survival camp in Southern Missouri. Jinger makes sure to pack her pillow (made with Jeremy’s old soccer jersey) and her Keurig machine.
  • While they drive to the camp, Jinger FaceTimes with Jeremy, in case she loses cell service for the next few days. “When we’re at home, it’s a little bit different because you aren’t quite stuck in the same room as Jinger when she’s talking to Jeremy,” says Joseph.
  • Jinger is relieved to find out that the camp does in fact have cell service. The leaders start by teaching the Duggar siblings how to start a fire. “The girls coming out in sandals and skirts is probably a bad idea,” says one of the leaders.
  • Jana and Jinger spend the first night in the camper, while the boys sleep in tents/teepees and Joy sleeps in a hammock. Tune in next week to see what happens when they hear a bear in the middle of the night.
  • The camera crew takes a trip down to Central America to check on Jill and Derick. Jim Bob and Michelle recently purchased air conditioning units for the Dillards so they don't have to keep the doors and windows open all the time.

New Episode Airs Tonight

Jim Bob, Michelle, and Jessa react to Jinger's courtship announcement

Are you looking forward to tonight's new segment of Counting On?

Coming up on season two, episode two...

Jeremy Vuolo eats a meal with the Duggar family for the first time, and Jinger seeks courtship advice from Jill and Derick Dillard. Later, Ben shares his plans for a youth outreach program, and the older Duggar siblings head out into the wilderness for survival training.

It has been more than 16 months since the last Duggar announced a courtship, so the family provides a refresher on their standards for "dating...with marriage in mind," as Joy-Anna Duggar defines it.

Down in Central America, the Dillards tell viewers that their new lives as missionaries have forced them to discuss difficult questions, such as what Jill should do if Derick doesn't come home one day.

Seewald and Dillard Snapshots

Last week, Jessa and Ben Seewald announced that they are expecting their second child in February 2017. Spurgeon will be just 15 months old when his little brother or sister arrives, which means that the Seewalds' life is soon to become even busier .

With the Dillards home from Central America for an extended visit, cousins Spurgeon Seewald and Israel Dillard, who are only seven months apart in age, are finally able to spend time together.

Jill Dillard, Spurgeon Seewald, Derick Dillard, and Israel Dillard

Jill and Derick have taken part in quite a few family get-togethers over the past three weeks. Israel has been away from relatives for most of his life, so you can bet that the little guy is enjoying the attention.

Cucumbers and Scavenger Hunts

We took the weekend off from blogging, so we have a couple Counting On extended scene videos that were recently released by TLC to share with you

Featuring Jana Duggar, John-David Duggar, Joseph Duggar, Josiah Duggar, and Jason Duggar, the first video is all about cucumbers. These five Duggar siblings share how they prepare one of the family's favorites snacks: cucumber slices with salt and vinegar. Jana also judges a cucumber peeling contest between the four boys.

If you've been watching the Duggars for a while, you've probably heard about their obsession with pickles and cucumbers. Check out our blog post from October 7th, 2013, to watch a cucumber tutorial made by the kids three years ago, and visit our recipes page to view Jason's "quick pickle" recipe.

On the season premiere episode of Counting On, which aired last Tuesday, Jessa and Ben Seewald babysit two little girls (video below). To test the usefulness of her new baby proofing equipment, Jessa leads the kids in a short scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, the girls successfully open the kitchen cabinets. "...So when they hit about five, you know that those no longer apply," observes the new mom.

Be sure to tune in to TLC tomorrow at 8pm ET/7pm CT for another new episode of Counting On

Jessa: 'I love nighttime feedings'

Did you catch the Seewald's big announcement? They're expecting their second child in February 2017! (See Tuesday's post for more details.)

Jessa and Ben released the following statement via People and Us Weekly:

We are so thankful that God is adding to our family. 2017 is shaping up to be a wonderful year already, and we know Spurgeon will do a great job in his new role. Having Spurgeon has been such a wonderful blessing, and we cannot wait to see the face of this sweet new baby (or babies!).

In a recent interview, Jessa also told Us Weekly that she "loves nighttime feedings, even if it means getting less sleep." The Counting On star says she knows Spurgeon is growing up quickly and that she will "look back and miss these days."

Meanwhile, Jill Dillard shared with Us Weekly that she and Derick "are excitedly waiting to see when God might bless us with another [baby]!"

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo took the cover story in last week's issue of Us Weekly, and Jessa and Ben Seewald will appear in this week's edition of People, on newsstands Friday.

Recap: "A Courtship Begins"

Counting On "A Courtship Begins"
  • The show opens with an update from Jessa, Ben, and Spurgeon, who is six months old. Jinger, Anna, Meredith, and Marcus come over to help Jessa baby proof the house. Marcus is especially helpful, as he points out everything that could be a potential hazard to a child.
  • Installing the cabinet locks ends up being quite difficult, but the girls are able to figure it out.
  • Jessa and Jinger share a memory of a time when they outsmarted their parents’ attempts at baby proofing. As young children, they drew all over the white kitchen cabinets…with non-washable markers.
  • “I would like to have a whole houseful of kids,” says Jinger. “I absolutely love kids.”
  • Anna gives an update on her marriage: Josh is back from rehab, and he and Anna are working towards rebuilding their marriage. “As I see Joshua taking steps to do what’s right, it brings a lot of joy and helps heal the pain that we’ve walked through,” says Anna.
  • Later that day, Jessa and Ben babysit for the Napier girls, who are three and six years old. The six-year-old is adopted, so the Seewalds have enjoyed talking with the Napiers about adoption.
  • Down in Central America, Israel is running around and learning to talk. The Dillards admit that they miss their family and friends back home.
  • Meanwhile, John helps Josiah practice for his CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) test. The other siblings all agree that John is a patient teacher. Both guys report that they are not currently in a courtship.
  • Jim Bob picks Jeremy Vuolo up from the airport, and the two men stop at Cave Springs Coffee Co. to chat. Jeremy tells his future father-in-law how much he has enjoyed getting to know Jinger, as well as the rest of the family. He requests Jim Bob’s permission to ask Jinger to begin a courtship.
  • What is Jim Bob’s response? The Duggar dad says that he and Michelle have discussed Jinger and Jeremy’s relationship and that they both give their blessing.
  • “Words can’t express the gratitude I feel towards you and Mrs. Duggar,” says Jeremy, beaming.“
  • A courtship is…an evaluation period for the purpose of considering each other for marriage,” explains Jim Bob.
  • When Jeremy arrives at the Duggar house, he asks Jinger to step outside. “It’s really been a privilege for me to get to know you,” says Jeremy, while the two sit on the porch listening to the rain. He tells Jinger that he has sought a girl like her, who has a heart for ministry, and he asks her to begin an official courtship. Jinger says yes! The two exchange multiple side hugs before heading back inside and sharing the big news with the family. Jim Bob and Michelle are thrilled for Jinger and Jeremy.
  • Joy says she has never seen Jinger so happy. “Coming out of last year…it’s always exciting when something like this comes up, and it’s a new beginning and something to look forward to,” says Jessa.

Sneak Peek: Jinger's Courtship Begins

In the following sneak peek of tonight's season two premiere of Counting On, Jeremy Vuolo approaches Jim Bob Duggar for permission to ask Jinger Duggar to being a courtship. The two men meet up at a coffee shop to discuss the budding relationship that we now know is soon to become a marriage.

The Duggar siblings and siblings-in-law say that Jinger has not been herself ever since she and Jeremy became serious. "She used to be the worst--she never knew where her phone was," shares Jana Duggar, chuckling. "Now she never loses it. You can totally tell that she's in love."

The Duggars return to TLC tonight at 8pm ET/7pm CT.

Jinger and Jeremy Chat with 'Us Weekly'

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo are the feature story on this week's issue of Us Weekly. Under the headline "Our Whirlwind Courtship," the couple opens up about their relationship, engagement, and upcoming wedding.

We have posted a few highlights below to give you a sneak peek. To read the full article, pick up a copy of Us Weekly at your local grocery store, pharmacy, or gas station.

-Jinger and Jeremy courted for seven months before their July 25th engagement. According to Jeremy, he and Jinger met in May 2015 but were "purely friends" for about eight months.

-Jeremy's New York City rooftop proposal took a month to plan. The sun was setting as he dropped down to one knee, and a pair of musicians were playing "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," a favorite song that will also be part of the wedding.

-Jinger's nickname for Jeremy is "Babe."

-Although they currently live 771 miles apart,  Jinger and Jeremy say they are able to see each other every couple weeks. When they aren't together, they exchange encouraging letters and small gifts.

-Jeremy is a former professional soccer player. How does Jinger feel about the sport? She admits she isn't as athletic as her fiancé but says she enjoys watching soccer highlights with him and is trying to learn more about the game.

The article also features quotes from Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald:

-16-month-old Israel Dillard is learning to talk in both English and Spanish. He can say "hello" in both languages, as well as "Papi," "Mami," "and "agua." One of his new favorite things is to copy whatever Derick does.

- Meanwhile, nine-month-old Spurgeon Seewald is starting to walk. Jessa and Ben are eager to adopt and have already taken steps to start the journey.

"...It's scary to me as a mom. [Israel is] a gringo, and he stands out, and with that brings risk."
-Jill Dillard

Viewers will watch as the Dillards work on the mission field in Central America and then head back to the United States for a visit that extends into the fall.

New Picture: Jana and John Duggar

For those who have been asking for a new photo of Jana Duggar and John-David Duggar, we have one to share. These twins are 26 years old and, according to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, are a huge help to the family.

In their spare time, both enjoy playing music. John flies planes, while Jana is constantly starting (and finishing) new projects around the house and garden.

Wondering what that big poster is that's hanging behind them in the picture above? Click here to read all about it.

Jinger and Jeremy on Cover of Us Weekly

Jinger Duggar and fiancé Jeremy Vuolo are front and center on this week's cover of Us Weekly. The newly engaged couple opens up about their seven-month courtship and New York City engagement. (Jeremy popped the question with a .75-carat ring on July 25th, and he and Jinger made the announcement public the next day.)

Jinger and Jeremy told Us Weekly that their marriage ceremony will be much smaller than past Duggar weddings. “We’re trying to keep it intimate, between family and friends," said Jeremy. “We want to be very intentional with who we invite.” The two lovebirds have not yet set a date. (Stay tuned.)

After the wedding, the sixth oldest child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar will move more than 700 miles to Laredo, Texas, where Jeremy pastors a small baptist church. As far as children go, Jinger and Jeremy admit that they haven't discussed family size, but as expected, they both love children.

For more on Jinger and Jeremy, check out the video below, pick up this week's issue of Us Weekly, and tune in to Counting On next Tuesday on TLC.

Israel Dillard Enjoys Arkansas

The Dillards are making the most of their time in the United States. Since their arrival last weekend, they have been spending time with family and friends and checking items off their to-do list.

Following the ADA's recommendations, Jill and Derick Dillard took their one-year-old son to the dentist for his first checkup. It looks like Israel is enjoying himself, doesn't it?

Israel Dillard's first visit to the dentist

Jill and Derick say that their little family is enjoying air conditioning, which they consider to be a luxury after living without it in Central America.

Israel was an infant when he left home last fall, so Grandma Cathy had a new car seat waiting for him when he arrived in Arkansas.

Derick introduced Israel to baby chicks at the Benton County Fair, which runs through Saturday. It's never too early to teach kids how to handle small animals.

13 Days 'Til Duggars Return to TV

"It's really been a privilege for me to get to know you. I wanted to ask you if you would..."
-Jeremy Vuolo

The Duggars are set to return to TLC in less than two weeks! New episodes of Counting On premiere Tuesday, August 23rd, at 8pm ET/7pm CT.

In this season, you'll be introduced to Jeremy Vuolo and hear the rest of his quote above, as well as Jinger's response. You can also look forward to updates from the rest of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's adult children.

While Jinger is in courtship bliss, the other older Duggar siblings are ready to leave the lows of the past year behind them and look forward to new and exciting highs. Jill and Derick are returning to Arkansas after a year of balancing mission work and raising their one-and-a-half year-old son in Central America.

Ben and Jessa are experiencing all the excitement of being new parents and possible plans for adoption, while Ben simultaneously organizes a football camp with ex-NFL players to mentor kids. Joy, Jedidiah and Jeremiah are also reaching a milestone with high school graduation rapidly approaching.

And, these three aren’t the only ones growing up; could John David, Joseph and Josiah be pursuing courtships? These siblings aren’t kids anymore, and each new relationship, parenting challenge, and exciting endeavor are a reminder of how much they’ve grown.

What are you most looking forward to on season two of Counting On?

Staying Fit, Duggar Style

While watching 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, you have probably caught a few glimpses of the Duggars' home gym, which is located in one of the buildings on their property.

Jim Bob and the older kids, including the married Duggars, enjoy making use of the various types of equipment that the family has acquired over the years. And working out is not just for the menfolk, as you can see from the photo below....

Joy-Anna Duggar, Justin Duggar, Jason Duggar,
and Jessa Duggar (not pictured) hit the gym in October 2014

In the following TLC webisode, Joseph Duggar and Ben Seewald show off some of their favorite machines at the Duggar gym.

For those wondering how the Duggar mom stays fit, she often rises at 6:00am and exercises on the elliptical, a birthday present from Jim Bob the year after Josie was born, before the rest of the family is awake.

Back in 2011, the Duggar parents told us in an interview that they were inspired to get in shape after consuming hospital food while Josie was in the NICU. Michelle and her childhood friend Cindy became exercise accountability partners, encouraging each other via text during their early morning workouts. In this TLC video from last year, the two ladies meet up at a local gym.

Duggar Weekend Snapshots

Jennifer Duggar celebrated her ninth birthday last Tuesday but decided to wait until the weekend to have her birthday party. She wanted Jill, who used to be the leader of her buddy team, along with Derick and Israel, to be able to attend.

For those who haven't heard, the Dillards just returned home from Central America for a visit that will extend into the fall. They were met at the airport by family and friends.

Grandma Michelle Duggar and Grandma Cathy Dillard Byrum with Israel Dillard

Jill and Derick were able to congratulate Derick's brother, Dan Dillard, and future sister-in-law, Deena, on their recent engagement. (You can tell that six-year-old Josie Duggar is thrilled to be reunited with her older sister.)

And now the best for last! We just love this picture of Michelle Duggar and Jennifer Duggar. The mom of 19 took her daughter and a few little friends shopping so Jennifer could spend some of her birthday money.

The Dillards are Home!

This just in! Jill and Derick Dillard, along with an exhausted Israel Dillard, have arrived home safely from Central America. They were greeted at the airport by family. (Click here to find out how the Dillards will be using their time in the United States.)

The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport has become a very special place for the Duggars over the years, as they have welcomed many groups of family members back home after long trips.

Do you remember watching Jill Duggar and the rest of the Duggar and Dillard families greet Derick when he returned from his two-year stay in Nepal back in 2014?

9 Months Old and Standing

Spurgeon Seewald, the youngest of the six grand-Duggars, turned nine months old yesterday! As you can from the pictures above, he has mastered the art of standing while holding onto a study object. The average baby reaches this milestone at 9-12 months, so Spurgeon is leading the pack.

Here's a TLC webisode featuring Jessa Seewald, Ben Seewald, and Spurgeon Seewald. It was filmed several weeks ago but is still very cute.
