Jim Bob and Michelle Visit the Dillards

As we mentioned in our summary of the Dillards' February ministry update (click here to read the highlights), Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar recently traveled down to Central America for an impromptu visit with Jill, Derick, and Israel. Here are a few snapshots from their trip:

  1. Thanks for the photos, now lets just hope folks can enjoy them without picking them apart for a change.Be kind to one another...blessings☺

  2. I came back looking for more information about the Uncommenn App and I see that the entire post has been deleted from the blog. Was there something wrong with the App?

    1. The folks from Uncommen do not want to be associated with the Duggars since The Josh Scandal.

  3. Maybe the Dillard's could assist with providing shoes or providing foot washing service to the "locals.". It's sad to see the wear and tear on their feet while Dillard's and Duggars have clean feet and sandals that aren't even dirty.

    1. How do you know that they didn't? The Duggar's usually bring supplies and gifts when they go down. Don't judge off of one picture. Pictures don't always tell the whole story.

      Delete
    2. One more thing! Maybe you people who are so critical of what the Dillard's and Duggar's are doing to help others in this world should get off social media and follow in their foot steps! Shame on you people!

    3. Great idea!! We have a local shoe shop who will donate a pair for each pair you buy. I'm sure there are other vendors doing the same. Research is important to a good mission.

      Delete
    4. Foot washing service? These people have soap and water.

      Delete
    5. Why don't you & I ask for a address that we can send socks & shoes to and maybe the Dillard's could hand them out to the locals, or had you rather write ugly remarks.

      Delete
    6. Great point. Would love to see some of their donations go to shoes for these people.

      Delete
    7. There a lot of people even in America that choose to go barefoot they consider shoes a burden that damages your feet. Try googling going barefoot!

      Delete
    8. Have you ever thought maybe it's their culture or that they prefer to not wear shoes?

      Delete
    9. seriously? they are living there to help, teach and train and thats what you see in this picture worth a thousand words? Im sure the living conditions for them might be slightly better then the local people there, but its still not the hilton, or even the comfort of their own home. find the positive first.

      Delete
    10. Believe it or not, the Dillards probably can't do everything.

      Delete
    11. Maybe you should send some yourself it seems like that was the only thing you notice about the picture

      Delete
    12. A lot of cultures around the world prefer to be barefoot. Shoes cause all kinds of foot problems.

      Delete
    13. I agree that I really good idea

    14. are you serious?! come on - what more do you want from this wonderful family? you are leaving a nasty comment because their feet are cleaner than the locals?!?! wow! read lots of hate comments on this Christian family but this is a new low!!

    15. Going barefoot may be something they prefer: if the weather is nice, bare feet are a joy! :)

      Delete
    16. Well now, Michelle sure is sporting some sturdy foot wear. Maybe the locals took a look and just said no!

      Delete
    17. They cannot provide for everyone. Missionary work is about saving souls, not changing the lifestyle or customs of any country.

    18. Why is Izzy never wearing a hat? He is so fair and the sun is so strong.

      Delete
    19. Derick looks rough.

      Delete
    20. Look closer, there are people other than the Duggars wearing shoes. Most people who live there prefer to be barefooted.

      Delete
    21. I don't think that's a fair statement... As a returned peace corps volunteer who lived in a community even poorer than this one for two years, I can tell you that providing handouts of free shoes is not going to be helpful. First, most people in my community preferred walking around without shoes. Shoes that were given to them by the government were rarely used and quickly destroyed. I can't tell you how many toms shoes I saw covered in mud lying unused on the ground. Secondly, handouts are not the answer. They are not a sustainable solution and create a handout mentality, which actually only serves to force people further into poverty.

I'm thrilled to see Jill and Derrick doing work that is so near and dear to my heart. I know from experience that it is the hardest work you can do, but it is a work that is worth it.

  7. You should change the name of this blog to All About Jill and Jessa since you never mention the other Duggar kids any more. I want to hear more about Joy and Jinger.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Did you ever stop to think that maybe that's how the Duggars want it? Jessa and Jill are married and moved out, but the other kids are still at home. Maybe they'd like to stay out of the spotlight for a bit.

      Delete
    2. I agree with this comment. I want to know more about the other kids. Could you please post some updates?

      Delete
    3. I also would like some more highlights from the other kids, but perhaps they're isn't much "excitement" surrounding the other kids at the moment. Just give them some time, and then maybe they'll have Lily and Ellie post something.

      Delete
    4. I second that suggestion. Let's hear more about the other Duggar kids. I'm in shock over Derick. Wonder why Jill doesn't want her man more groomed. He didn't look that way when he was over there for 2 years before he met and married Jill. I understand the surgery part, but just good hygiene like a haircut and shave would do wonders.

      Delete
    5. Looks like he's trying to be able to play the part in his Bible stories, without dressing up. I doubt Jill would say anything to her husband because that would not be joyful.

      Delete
    6. Lily and Ellie said that with the situation with Josh the Duggars have not been keeping them up to date on the younger kids. I was upset about it too.

      Delete
    7. Please do not focus on their appearance. This world is all about looks, but the message of Jesus Christ is held in our hearts. We are not of this world.

      Delete
    8. Maybe the others have asked not to be mentioned as much for a while. So they can heal and focus on other things. If it was all about the others people would be crying for updates on Jill and Jessa. They can't please everybody they can only do they're best.

      Delete
    9. That may be true, looks are not everything. But hey even the Bible took a moment to describe John the Baptist unusual appearance (clothes of camels hair, etc).

  35. Great work! I have been on several Mission trips with our goal being helping to build churches in Mexico and Chile'. When we left we left our clothes and shoes for them. It is difficult to aid with everything, however, after we left a hurricane went thru Mexico and the people of the neighborhood found refuge in the Church we helped build and all survived! It was well worthwhile!

    1. I am curious about the concept of mission trips. I notice these are often short-term (1-2 weeks) for teens or young adults. Considering the costs for travel and lodging, wouldn't it be more efficient to simply donate that money toward the project and hire local labor to perform the construction? It would probably make the goal of building of the churches much quicker and cost efficient with lots of funds left over for additional projects or aid.

      Delete
    2. Do you mean donating to missionaries, or who? Because there's often corruption with donated funds overseas. It's difficult to know where the money goes without good oversight and accountability in place. But also, the short $1000 (plus your own airfare) that the SOS trips cost for teens don't accomplish much, either. What does help is staying there long enough to help the locals turn their own economy around somehow, through jobs, education, infrastructure improvements, and development of sustainable local skills. There are volunteer organizations that focus on those things and much-needed medical help, too. But still, sometimes you're dealing with countries with massive government corruption on many levels, so it can be an uphill battle.

That aside, the good part of non-profits in the U.S. is that they have to file financial statements, and the public can research how much of the donations are actually spent on the organization's purpose. Talking the talk is one thing. Showing the same on paper is sometimes another.

    1. I've gotten turned off not by the scandal, that's not uncommon stuff. What turns me off is the change in the girls, in particular. The selfies, shorter skirts, heavier makeup, etc. That is their choice but I think it confuses those who initially followed them from the beginning. It is very evident that their convictions appear to have changed. They are way more secular now than before. I guess fame and media coverage changes even the best of us. So sad. I'm leaning more towards the Bates now.

      Delete
    2. That could be because the girls are young women now. And the Bates young women also wear makeup. Nothing wrong with that they are all still very modest they're just growing up and making their own decisions.

  40. That would be a really good ministry for the Duggars and Dillards, to provide shoes/sandals for the locals there. At least people donating could see what their money is being used for. Or maybe the Duggars could start a shoe collection and could take them on their next trip to the locals when they visit Jill and Derrick.

    5. Michelle is nearly 50. It's a middle-age figure. Your comments about her looking pregnant are rude and uncalled for.

      Delete
    6. "Is Michelle pregnant" is a question that's been asked since they first went on TV. Nothing rude about it. Who knows how old she is without looking it up. It's supposed to be equally rude to give a woman's age.

      Delete
    7. Her 50th birthday is in September. Duggar fans whom I assume are most of the bloggers know this. Therefor they would know she is realistically beyond child-bearing years. So yes it's rude.

      Delete
    8. We're not being rude. Although it isn't COMMON, it is POSSIBLE for a woman to still have a pregnancy at this age. My friend just delivered a healthy baby at age 50 three months ago! We know Michelle would welcome another, and are just asking...or maybe hoping...along with her.

    1. Thank you for speaking up for the Duggars! I hate what people say about them. They are a truly wonderful Christian family. The hard part about raising children is that they grow up and make their own choices. Jim Bob and Michelle have been great parents who have loved and nurtured their kids. Josh is an adult who has made decisions that do not reflect his upbringing. Jim Bob and Michelle made hard decisions to remove him from the family and get him help as a teenager and turn him in to the police. They did everything they could to help him. His choices are not their fault. God never gave us children to control them... Children are not robots. They have a free will, and some will choose the wrong path. I am thankful for the example set by the Duggars. They have taught me ways to handle my children better. They are always so calm and loving.

It is no wonder the other kids don't share many details about their lives since everyone bashes the two that do. Jill is so sweet and kind. Israel obviously has allergies. My son has the same thing (dark circles under the eyes). You don't need medical care for that. It is just something they live with and deal with when the allergies flare up.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Since none of us are perfect, we need to stop casting stones at others.

    1. Seriously, Michelle is RIGHT THERE. You just have to use common sense when you're taking care of a baby, and there's nothing dangerous about what's happening in that picture!

      Delete
    2. That is a Bumbo seat, not a booster, correct. It belongs on the floor for babies who can NOT sit on their own yet. Israel is sitting, crawling and cruising. He should not be in that seat.

      Delete
    3. Yes - they're using that Bumbo incorrectly as a loose booster seat. With that hard tile floor below, it's a horrendous accident waiting to happen. That picture is downright scary!

      Delete
    4. Lots of things happen to children when adults are "right there". Common sense is following the guideliness and instructions. This is a fairly new item, I don't think it was around for Josie. People are being kind to the baby by pointing this stuff out. They don't want to see him hurt all to save an adult from embarrassment. These are pictures they decided to make public and could screen.

      Delete
    5. People. Please stop helicopter parenting. Michelle has raised more kids and grand-kids than anyone here. We should probably assume that she knows what she's doing. Stop looking for the danger in every single situation. A baby doing almost anything in this world could be viewed as a possible danger if you want it to. Israel is in good hands. Well done, Michelle.

      Delete
    6. I wouldn't let anyone take care of my kids who wasn't "looking for danger in every single situation." That's a parent's primary job! Michelle wouldn't qualify to work in a daycare center if she tried using that same feeding set-up there. It's NOT safe!

      Delete
    7. I agree about the helicopter parenting. I think you need to be aware of dangerous situations but too many parents today see danger in absolutely everything and over-react. Jungle gyms at the local kids park could cause injuries but do you stop your kids from going near one? There was absolutely nothing wrong with what Michelle was doing. She couldn't have been closer to the baby. I think any daycare center would love to have Michelle work for them with her wealth of knowledge and expertise!

      Delete
    8. Among other useful things, Jill got the "Safety First Fast Pack High Chair" that was on her Wal-Mart baby gift registry. "Easy to stow and take on the go" according to the product information. A high chair is the obvious place to feed a child that age, not a floor seat placed on an elevated surface, where it and the baby could tip over at any time. So what do you think happened to all the baby gifts they got?

      Delete
    9. My friend is an ER nurse. She sees all the time what happens when parents don't "helicopter." It's heartbreaking when any child gets injured, especially the babies. Then there are the cases when they have no choice but to call authorities.

I don't believe there is such a thing as being too careful, especially when you're taking care of someone not even a year old. Today's parents have tons of safer baby products to help them do that, more than parents did before. Still, you have to use the products properly or you can make a situation even worse.

      Delete
    10. Jill got a high chair for a baby gift. Wonder why she isn't using it?

  58. I wish Jill would be told how bad this carrier is for his hips! I used them for years untill I learned how bad it is for them, his knees should be above his hips, and face forward should only be done in a carrier that can support his leggs, like a Ergo Carrier 360. I have no idea how to get that message to Jill but I hope it will somehow reach her.

I'm so happy to see that they're spreading God's word and His love. Their appearance has no bearing on their hearts or the work they do.

The Duggers themselves don't wear decent shoes, they wear flip flops (which make your feet filthy) they also buy used shoes which are also filthy and conformed to others feet and the wear and tear of shoes goes without saying. If you can't keep a new pair of sneakers on 19 kids than that says it all. moderator I have said nothing wrong or vulgar on this comment so it should appear on the site.
