'Counting On' Part 3 Recap

Last night on Jill & Jessa: Counting On, "Counting One More"..
  • A few weeks before Spurgeon’s birth, Jessa and Ben have a family over for dinner to discuss adoption. The Seewalds will need to wait until their baby is nine months old to adopt, but they plan to start attending classes in the new year.
  • Ben reveals that he dreams of having 15 sons, and Jessa says she would enjoy that.
  • Down in Central America, Jill and Derick bring supplies and toys to Mama Carmen’s children’s home, run by a sweet elderly woman who has been taking care of little ones for 30 years.
  • Some of you may be familiar with Mama Carmen’s cafĂ© and roastery in Northwest Arkansas, both of which help fund the children’s home. Jill and Derick say they are considering adoption, and they clear up fans' speculations by announcing that they are not expecting.
  • On another day, Jill volunteers at a local birth center. Meanwhile, Derick and his mom, who is visiting, navigate the local market in search of rain boots.
  • “Shopping with an infant is a lot different than shopping by yourself,” comments Derick.
  • Everyone—including Israel--tears up when Derick’s mom has to leave Central America to return home.
  • Four days before Jessa’s due date, a family friend and her husband come by to snap maternity photos.
  • Anna, Meredith, Jana, and Joy visit Jessa to help her make freezer meals. “There were a lot of sweet memories running through my mind,” shares Anna, who lived in Jessa and Ben’s house for the first five years of her marriage.
  • “I think for everyone, it’s been hard,” says Anna, when asked how she is doing. “But I think that it’s been a good opportunity to draw close to God.”
  • “Anna really is doing very well with everything that has gone on,” says Jana.
  • Jill video chats her pregnant sister, but Jessa has to stop talking for a few moments when she is hit with a painful contraction.
  • “It’s been quite an adjustment having Jill and Derick gone,” says Jessa. The Dillards are blessed to have Wi-Fi in their apartment while they are in language school in Guatemala, but once they begin their first mission assignment, communicating with family will become more difficult.
  • The Duggar boys take Ben out for pizza to celebrate his upcoming entry into fatherhood.
  • Three days after her due date, Jessa starts having intense contractions. She uses an app on her iPhone to log them.
  • To jumpstart labor, Jana and Jinger accompany Jessa and Ben on an hour-long powerwalk. “That ought to help,” says the pregnant mama. “The walk was very beneficial.”
  • Jessa’s birthing team arrives, and labor begins. During the long birth, Jill encourages her sister via FaceTime.
  • “Ben was just solid,” says Michelle. “He was there, and he stuck by [Jessa’s] side. It was just really sweet.”
  • When the baby arrives, Jordyn is the first of those waiting eagerly at the Duggars' home to find out the gender, since she was Jessa’s buddy. It’s a boy!
  • After Spurgeon’s birth, Jessa begins bleeding excessively and has everyone worried. Michelle calls 9-1-1, and an ambulance arrives. Jessa spends the night at a hospital, where she is given a blood transfusion.
  • Jana, who has assisted many births as a doula, says this is the worst bleeding she has witnessed.
  • When Jessa returns home, the Duggars come over to hold Baby Seewald. Jinger comments that it is odd to be passing around a nameless child. The proud parents spend a few days deciding on a name, but they end up choosing Spurgeon Elliot Seewald.
  • “I can’t believe it,” says Jessa. “I can’t believe he’s ours. It seems like a dream.”
  • “Children are such a blessing,” shares Anna, after meeting Spurgeon for the first time. The mother of four says God knew exactly what he was doing when he gave the Duggars another precious addition to help them through this difficult season.

  12. I'm confused by the rush to adopt. They are still so young and obviously fertile; are they willing to accept that they might easily have 2 infants at the same time if Jessa gets pregnant during the adoption process? With infertile couples struggling to be able to adopt I wonder if an adoption agency would seriously consider Jessa and Ben?

    1. My understanding is that they want to adopt children who are not often sought for adoption (young children, minorities, children in orphanages, etc.).

    2. Its cause there are so many children out there that are waiting to be adopted. There are more children needing adoption then there are parents who can not have children seek to adopt. Children are in Jessa's heart whether her own biological children or any children. They have taken many trips to central America and have met with all those kids waiting on adoption. She has giving heart. It must be hard to leave one of those places and know that those children are living in poverty especially before she was married and couldn't do anything about it. I think now that she's married she wants to do something whether it be adoption foster parenting mentoring she just has a desire to help children.

  13. Loved all 3 episodes! I think the producers did a good job of letting us see the reality of the pain and heartache they've endured while also focusing on the exciting new changes. I hope and assume we will be getting to see more of the Duggars on TLC.

Anna's first interview was incredible. She is my hero.

I was dissapointed to not see more of Michelle or Jim Bob in the episodes. I know the producers likely had a reason for that, but it was disapointing and I hope in future specials and episodes they are not excluded. Mom and Dad are both entertaining and dynamic. Focusing on just Jill and Jessa wasn't necessarily boring, but including Jim Bob and Michelle would have been more interesting to watch.

  14. I so enjoyed seeing them all again, taking part in their joys and sorrows. God bless them for continuing to stand among all the hateful remarks and anti-Christian people. Praying for Josh and his complete overcoming of pornography. I have been the spouse of one addicted and I know how it destroys a family and the Covenant between a wife and husband. My heart goes out to the entire family who has been drug through the mud with their son, whom they love. Praying the Lord will turn this test into a testimony. Love from North Texas.

While I know we have to forgive just so mad at what he's done to some of the most loving people who are always sharing the good word of our Lord

  36. The conversation between Jessa and Anna was so forced. Jessa asked her how things have been the past few months when surely she'd have known. Poor Anna.

  40. This was the last of the 3 specials featuring Jill & Jessa. If we want to see more of the Duggars in 2016 (including a series again) - it should be up to us to write to Discovery (the parent company of TLC) to let them know how much we love the Duggars and want to see them back on TLC again. I already sent my comments to them. Please let's do our part to try to coax TLC back into bringing back the Duggars. You can find a "comments" section on the TLC website. Thank you.

  43. Jessa and Ben- I love you both! Congratulations to both of you! I know you'll be wonderful loving parents! Jessa, I cried when I watched you give birth to Spurgeon. It was an incredibly emotional moment. And seeing Jill's reaction through FaceTime was also a tear jerker, knowing she was supporting and watching you from afar.

  44. Congratulations Jessa and Ben! I'm so glad Jessa is okay! God bless them and all the Duggar family - especially Anna who is walking through such a difficult season. I was thrilled to see most of the older boys going out for pizza with Ben - and I loved Josiah's prayer at the beginning before they dug in! I am hoping and praying that we will be seeing more of the Duggars on TV as time goes on!

    1. She gave birth to jill and jessa how could you say that

  49. Why was Jordan wearing a hospital bracelet when she announced the gender? Why did Anna say " spurgeon is about to be born"
All of this was staged. Nothing "real" about this reality show. Would love to see the Duggars be truely themselves on camera and none of this forced fake smile and conversation. What do they really think? What do they really talk about? What would Anna say if she had freedom to speak her mind????

    1. This happened months before thats why...the show takes time to piece together, it doesnt happen overnight,it was not staged, this is actually how shows are made.Way to go Duggar family and Im so glad the fans helped keep the special from being cancelled☺

  55. Time for the family to disappear from public life and return to a healthy, humble, truthful and Christian life-away from fame and fortune. May God encourrage them to do so.
In the end they would be so much happier.....if the fans would think of the duggars future first and not of themselves, they know it would be the right decision....
