1 Duggar & 2 Bates Leave for Philippines

Josiah Duggar, Lawson Bates, and Nathan Bates spent the day in New York City before heading to the Philippines for a month-long mission trip. ABC's Juju Chang gave them a tour of the Natural History Museum and ABC studios.

  1. What are they doing on this trip? I'm a little unclear on what the goals are for these "mission" trips.

  2. I see (maybe) Nathan with Jana and Michaelle Bates would have been a good mate for John David. If a girl is just in a courtship with someone who is not engaged is it 'wrong' for another guy to make a play for her? This is not from a Duggar I am just a curious fan.

  9. I wonder if Anonymous numbers 5,6, and 7 are the same person? The comments have the same "tone" in them.

  10. Love the work these kids are doing on these mission trips.
Wish everyone would stop trying to match the Bates with Duggars. Lets just leave it up to the Lord to do the match making.

  11. How do they find those mission trips? It sounds like a dream come true - free flight, all meals provided, visiting a new country/culture, and in addition having a feeling that you are being helpful! I wonder what exactly they will be doing in Philipines? What help they are providing?

  12. I just want to know what they actually do on these mission trips? What is a mission trip? Ellie and Lilly could you shed light for us viewers? When Derek was in Nepal he was there for a long time and when the Duggars go they are there for short visits. Just curious.

    Hi Anonymous 1,

The boys' trips to the Philippines focus on bringing medical supplies to and sharing their faith with typhoon victims.

    Blessings,
    Lily and Ellie

I've ofter wondered that too! When I was a kid, missions were arranged by the church or a group of churches and they were within North America. Now, mission trips are a business and there are companies (like http://www.adventures.org/) that organize them.

See about raising money through your family, friends, and church family. That's what my child did.
