Recap: "Amy's Nashville Dreams"

Tonight on TLC...
19 Kids and Counting "Amy's Nashville Dreams"
  • Amy Duggar is preparing to sing on the Showboat Branson Belle for a crowd of 700. The only time she has sung for a larger crowd was at Jill's wedding, which had about 1,500 attendees.
  • Amy goes shopping with her mom and Grandma Duggar to find an outfit for the event. She falls in love with a blue lacy dress. "I definitely have my own style," says Amy. "I don't dress as conservative as my family. However, I do have my own dress code."
  • "Amy's a very talented gal, and I think she'll do very well," says Jim Bob. "She's a nice little singer."
  • Michelle encourages Amy to enjoy what she's doing and "come away with a great experience, whether she goes big or not."
  • Amy walks out on stage on the Branson Belle, but the music doesn't start. She attempts to make small talk with the audience for a few moments while the sound crew gets everything working. "That's my life," says Amy. "Nothing ever goes as planned."
  • The music finally starts, and Amy sings "You Are Always on My Mind." She and her mom and grandma are pleased with her performance.
  • Next, Amy Duggar celebrates her 28th birthday with her aunt and uncle and 19 cousins. "My kids love her," says Michelle. "Honestly, Amy is like a party waiting to happen."
  • The Duggar cousin, who says that traditional cakes are overrated, attempts to make a donut cake.  "Donuts to me are almost irresistible," says Jim Bob.
  • While Amy and her cousins are preparing the donut cake, Johannah takes a tumble into the cake and gets covered in frosting. Amy chases her around and tries to put more frosting on her, while Jim Bob tries to lick it off her.
  • "I thought Amy's donut cake idea was quite different, but not a bad idea, me being a cop," says John-David.
  • When people ask Amy why she isn't married yet, she responds: "Oh y'all." She says she wants to have a family someday but that, like her cousins, she is waiting on God's timing.
  • "I think Amy's plans to go to Nashville [are] awesome," says Joy-Anna. "She is going to fit right in there."
  • Amy heads back to Nashville and attends a meeting with record labels, who are impressed by the improvement she has made.
  • Amy then visits Black River Records to shoot her first music video. She has trouble remembering the words at first, but once she gets into the groove, she does well.
  • At the end of the episode, Amy gathers with her mom, both of her grandmas, a few of her closest friends, and her producer to watch her music video for the first time.
  • TLC also shows a brief preview of Jessa Duggars' wedding, which will air in 2015. Click here and here to view pictures.

    1. There's been a counter petition in favor of the Duggars that has been started and already has more signatures than the original. You can find and sign it online.

  3. John is a cop? Did we know that?

    1. John-David is
a volunteer firefighter and the operator of Duggar
Towing. He was also elected the Washington
County constable in late 2012, which requires he
see the laws of the county are “faithfully
      executed.”

    2. Yes I knew that. On one of the shows it showed Jim Bob riding with John David one day while he was on duty. Jim Bob even went in a store and bought donuts for John David saying cops like to eat donuts. Love the show and the family.

  4. We wanted to talk to Amy at Jessa's wedding but right when we found her she was doing an interview on camera so I didn't get to . I did get to talk to her mom at the duggar's house afterwards and she gave me a CD with her and Amy singing on it!!! She was very nice!!!

  10. I can't believe they wasted the season finale on Amy ;(

She's not even part of the "19 kids" that we're supposed to be counting

  11. I would so rather have seen Jessa's wedding than an episode about Amy.

  12. John-David has been a volunteer firefighter, volunteer cop and was sworn in as an Arkansas Constable on Jan. 1, 2013. See blog post: http://www.duggarfamilyblog.com/2013/01/john-david-duggar-arkansas-constable.html

  13. So disappointing in the first place as THIS is the season finale? A snooze-fest, IMO, as I kept falling asleep from boredom. I really don't care much about Amy's attempt to become a country music star...get in line, Amy. Best of luck to her, but not worthy enough for a whole show in the 19K timeslot. We would have much rather watched the prep and wedding of Jessa and Ben these last few weeks. Nothing but fluff, fill and nonsense aired here. TLC, get new producers, etc...boring.

  14. 15 minutes into the next show (and during a commercial) until they showed the preview was NOT cool! I had walked away to do chores and then I heard Duggar voices from the TV and went back in to catch part of it.

  15. Not a county fan, but I hope Amy has her dreams come true

  16. This was a good episode, but as a season finale it was very disappointing that the duggar family was hardly in it :( Very bummed. I watched it on iTunes so I didn't see anything about Jessa's wedding in it either :(

  17. I watched the episode last night and did not see any preview of the wedding. @lily would it be possible to have the video posted on here for those that were not able to see it?

  18. I am praying hard that TLC will not bend to the pressure to take them off the air. I want TLC to know if they do take them off I will not watch anymore of the myriad of channels TLC also has. And trust me, I watch many of them. I don't think the fact that they believe in marriage as stated in the bible and they support political candidates who also have conservative values should not be held against them because that is what America is all about. And it does not mean they hate anybody. I makes me sick to here people saying other people hate groups they don't agree with.

  19. Didnt like the music video at all. I dont know why, if she is a professing christian, that she feels the need to pursue Godless, secular record companies. She should take a leaf out of Erin Paines book.

  20. Is there any way to see the wedding preview?

  21. I listened to Amy sing both watching her on TV, then four or fives time just listening like I was listening to a CD. Amy will never be a huge star. She may sing on cruise ships, etc. and make a living and that is okay. Also, Grandma showed us a glimmer of who she is when she said "this is what they wear." How does Grandma know what a singer wears outside the compund? And if Amy doesn't want to use the Duggar name for herself, then why does she go by Duggar? Her father's last name is not Duggar.

    1. Her father is actually her step-dad. Her mom remarried.

  22. What's is that song that Amy sung to the executives? It's starts with "The mystery of you and me....". It's great!

  23. The best part of the episode for me was Mrs. Duggar (I refuse to call her "Grandma"). It was nice to see her so involved with Amy's trip and giving her advice and spending time with Amy's friends and her own daughter (Amy's mom). She rarely appears on the show normally, and you don't get any real idea of her as a person because most of her appearances focus on her making sure the children get where they need to be so they can be the focus of the show.

I'd like to see more of this witty, opinionated woman who has an interest in her grandchildren's lives. I'm not sure if she is particularly close to any of Jim-Bob's children, but it was clear that Amy and her mother valued and respected her opinion. She seemed close to Amy as well.

  24. I am very much looking forward to seeing Jessa's and Ben's wedding preview (hopefully on YouTube, as I do not have cable) and more so, the wedding itself. I really do believe Jessa and Ben are an excellent Christian couple. However, maybe I'm too sensitive, but I could not help but to feel hurt by Ben's comments regarding Catholics. I was born and raised as a Catholic, and my husband was actually previously in The Seminary. We try to live our lives to serve The Lord and to serve others, we try to follow Scripture, and we attend Church regularly (and we do NOT worship Mary or the Saints). We hold many of the same beliefs The Duggars hold. I believe that instead of focusing on any differences we have, we should focus on the similarities in our beliefs. I do believe there were not any poor intentions on Ben's part; I believe it was misinformation about The Catholic faith. I do admire him as a Godly man who has The Lord at the center of his marriage to Jessa. I do also commend him greatly for retracting his statement against Catholics (many of whom include my fellow Duggar fans). I do not want to make any assumptions, but what I would like to know is if The Duggars welcome Catholics as fellow followers of Christ? They have always seemed very tolerant and non-judgmental of others, just as true Christians are to be. May God's blessings be with all. Your sister in Christ, Kristin.

  26. I am part of the people who do not wish to have their show on the cable tv. I used to watch it & enjoy now I feel it's political & manipulative programm.

  28. I wish Amy much luck in her future and fulfillment of her desires for success in the music industry. I hope that Amy understand that to achieve these goals she must come prepared to her appointments, including printing out all materials necessary, preparing and memorizing songs and lyrics. If she fears singing in front of crowds then she should enroll in classes for public speaking, as well as voice and music lessons to develop her skills and talents. The most successful singers and musicians take music lessons to home their craft and improve their skills. Good Luck!

  29. I guess I don't understand why she doesn't pursue being a Gospel singer. Why worldly songs in worldly environments? The Duggars wished her well but it's not the type of music they listen to.

  30. This was an enjoyable episode, it made me smile. Sometimes I wonder about things though, why was there such confusion to make the donut cake and why did Amy not know the words to the song? Sometimes it seems bratty there. Is that OK? Some how they make it all work out...

  31. When I saw Amy make a donut cake I was like,''OMG! I have got to try that!!!'' This is what I'm making for my next birthday!

  32. @Anonymous

I SO agree with all that you've said!! Amy has a good voice, but it's just doesn't have the "wow' factor to make it big. I truly don't see voice lessons changing that, either.

  33. i adoooore amy, but I think Jessa's engagement would have been a much better season finale.
