More Wedding Details!

In 34 days, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar will give away their third oldest daughter in marriage. Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald, who will tie the knot on November 1st, have been planning for their big day since their engagement on August 14th.

"I'm super excited," Jessa told PEOPLE Magazine. "Everybody has really been pitching in."

The engaged couple has chosen their colors--navy blue, gray, and coral pink--and plans to have 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen. So far, Jessa and Ben have sent out 800 invitations.

They have not announced their honeymoon location but are planning to go somewhere warm. Perhaps they will follow in the footsteps of past Duggar newlyweds and head to the Carolinas. Josh and Anna honeymooned in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, while Jill and Derick spent their first week of marriage in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

As hinted in a recent episode of 19 Kids and Counting, Jessa and Ben's wedding guests will chow down on ice cream sundaes instead of traditional wedding cake.

An article in this week's edition of Us Weekly Magazine says that Jessa is training to become a midwife, like Jill. With two midwives and a birthing coach (Jana), the Duggars will be ready to welcome all those future grandchildren!

  3. Jessa becoming a midwife too? When did this happen?

  4. In the Duggar photo album it states Jana and Jinger teamed with their older sisters, Jill and Jessa on that book. Jana is the oldest of the 4 and Jinger the youngest!!

    2. I would guess Ben's sisters, Anna, and the older Duggar girls. I don't remember how many sisters he has of bridesmaid age. I guess Amy is out there but I don't believe they've had her as a bridesmaid before. The Duggars have church friends but it seems like the only close friends are family members.

I had no idea Jessa was also training to be a midwife- that's wonderful!

  10. Wow that's cool that Jessa has decided to pursue midwifery like Jill!! It's going to take a long time to see the wedding on TLC (I am sure we won't see anything about Jessa and Benjamin's wedding until next April) so I am really looking forward to the tidbits that Lily and Ellie will be posting on here!! You ladies do a wonderful job at this blog!

  13. It's interesting to see Jessa going into midwifery like her sisters... fantastic that she has a career but I do wonder how many options the girls have. I have always thought Jessa would make a good private tutor (a bit like Erin Bates does with her music) and I hope Jinger continues with her photography if that is what she wants to do, instead of pursuing midwifery as well. Either way, it is nice to see the girls keeping busy and with a useful profession that they can do freelance as they have their families.

  15. Happy for all the marriages/engagements... Curious as to why you all are in People & US magazine? I think it's weird because in order to read your articles i have scroll past ungodly content. Plus pay money to a company that supports putting filth in their magazine. Could this be causing others to stumble or causing temptation? Just curious not accusing. Your family is awesome & again I'm not being rude just curious.... :) btw congrats!!!

    1. Agreed. People magazine is just gross sometimes.
Although I am so grateful they are shining Gods light in this dark area.

    1. I find it really annoying how Jim Bob keeps teasing the girls & guys on the air about courtship and marriage. Would not want to be his daughter in that situation.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, I felt bad for John David last week when Jim Bob was teasing him about being single. I know Jim Bob had good intentions and was just joking, but it might be hard for John David to see his younger siblings get married before him and then be made fun of about it. It just seemed odd since the Duggars have always seemed to stress letting God choose their future spouses that Jim Bob said people could send in 'applications' ... It was funny, though!

    3. Not my style God loves us no matter perfection or not! I watch the show and the parents shld loosen up and trust in their parenting. Dates w a 20+ year old woman shouldnt b chaperoned have faith that they will follow your wishes and hope they share the same morals you do and everything will b just fine! But should they decide to hold hands or kiss does not mean they'll lose their place in Heaven. Ppl interpret the bible differently and nowhere did I see banishment for a kiss or a hand hold! They could also fall for a wolf in sheep's clothing because they so want to be with someone.

  21. The wedding sounds like it will be wonderful. Although the colors sounds a bit strange but I think they'll turn out nice. I don't remember reading pre-wedding details when Jill and Derick got married (and I've been reading this blog for 6 months). 22. I have been thinking about it and I think that Ben and Jessa would be good at educating youth on Christian principles (definition: a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.) There is a need in today's world for education in Christianity and augmentation of Christian living for people who are coming to Christ out of the world. Too many people assume that others know the fundamentals of Christianity which they know nothing of, the 'heathens' (seriously). This is the area Ben and Jessa have already shown a propensity for. Indeed it would be a waste to put Jessa into midwifery. IMHO

    ReplyDelete
  23. Doubt Jessa will become a mid wife. Ben will need Jessa as his help mate.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow! Their wedding date is coming up fast! Wonderful color scheme! Can't wait!

  29. @Anonymousjust thinking that they are being a light in the darkness able to reach people that wouldn't otherwise be reached, people that won't pick up a "christian" magazine may be encouraged or even directed to the gospel by their example. In the world but not of it. :)

  30. Just my opinion.. from what Jessa appears on the show, I don't see her as being a midwife I guess. Unless we as TV viewers don't know the real Jessa?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with the previous comments... I think Jessa and Ben should be youth pastors that would be AMAZING!!! Fun people with NO children lol!!!! It would be great if that happened, but I seriously doubt it.

  32. I would just like to know how Ben is going to support Jessa and their future children... surely Jim Bob is not going to pay him to work for the Duggars..

  33. I can't wait to see Jessa as a bride. She will look beautiful! My guess is that she will choose a complete different dress style than Jill. I think her dress will be an A-line or ball gown dress with very little lace or bling. I really would love to see one of them wear their hair up in an up-do though or a simple low-do bun. I think it would look so elegant and classy and it brings out your face more.

  35. I thought Jill had her pursuit of becoming a midwife weeks prior to getting married? And when did Jessa begin training to become a midwife?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Jill's been studying midwifery for years...she attended Mackenzie and Marcus's births, and delivered Michael. The last time a birth was featured on the show, Jessa said that she sometimes attended births as a photographer, but nothing about becoming a midwife. So that is either incorrect, or maybe that ambition has happened recently. :)

  37. @Anonymous@ Anony 15----I agree with what you stated about the Duggars allowing coverage of their life happenings in main stream magazines. It seems contradictory to what standards they preach? Of course, so does having a reality show on television; a media outlet the Duggars choose not to watch!

  41. It really surprises me to hear that Jessa is planning to be a midwife. That just doesn't seem like her (not that I really know her :) ). I think she would do great as a professional organizer, a ladies' ministry coordinator, an event planner - something that uses her awesome organizational skills. Of course, she can use those in her own home too!

  42. With all the "encouraging" these parents say they do and the confidence in how they raised their children, I take the constant chaperoning, and extreme rules as they are betting on their adult children failing rather than being victorious in keeping up with the beliefs that these couples say are their own standards from the beginning. After all, if one is never challenged to exercise their beliefs, how can they say they do the right thing when no one is watching? Someone is always listening, watching or guarding these young adults, so how can they prove anything to themselves or to God? It's easy to comply when someone "tightens the screws" around you. The only thing they prove is they behave when monitored and their parents don't trust them for one moment. Such a shame.

  44. I guess it's refreshing to hear the honesty about short courtships, especially with regard to Jill. They played the same clip twice on the TV show where she basically said that the reason for such a short courtship was so they could be physical together. I'm not sure that's the best reason to have a quickie marriage but I appreciate that they shared their thoughts with their fans. I'm still not comfortable with all the chaperones on every date. I know that Mom & Dad are helping them to remain pure and chaste but if they raised them right and instilled their values into them it just seems like a tremendous lack of faith and trust in their own children. They seem to be telling them that they're incapable of staying true to their faith without a third-party to ensure it. Love the show and the whole family to bits but that just always tweaked me I guess.

  46. Has anyone else tried to do the math and ended up scratching their head as far as Jill's due date? I know a pregnancy is 40 weeks which would end up to be April sometime, assuming she got pregnant in June. But I read she is due March 24. From June 2014 until March 2015 is 36 weeks..(9 months). I'm just sincerely wondering, is the March date an error?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Pregnancy dating has the woman 2 weeks pregnant at the start. I think that's thrown a lot of people. Some accuse them of premarital relations which, while nothing wrong with it, I don't believe that at all. I understand you're asking from a medical perspective so I hope the +2 weeks helps clear it up. You take the first day of the last period, add 1 year, subtract 3 months and add 1 week. Some calculators to be estimated date of conception. Most accurate dating is by ultrasound where measurements are taken of key location, like the baby's femur.

Whatever the date, I think we can assume it's likely she will go over the estimated date since she's a first time mom.

      Delete
    2. Pregnancy due date is calculated from the date of your last menstrual cycle. It is not always the actual date of conception.

      Delete
    3. No error- the weeks start counting on the first day of your last menstrual cycle - so by the time you've realized your late you are already 4-6 weeks along!!

      Delete
    4. The 40 weeks count starts at the first day of the last period so even though conception happened p after marriage the start of her 40 weeks could be before

      Delete
    5. Remember those 40 weeks include from your last period, not conception. We are expecting out baby March 20th and know our conception date was June 27th.

  47. I think its going to be a fun wedding ice cream and all. I wonder if the bridesmaids will be a mix of Ben's sisters and Jessa's sister. I hope Anna is a brides maid again. I am hoping Jana finds her mate.

  53. It seems like a strange thing that while we are learning things of the family updated here, the show itself is behind the times. By the time TLC airs Jessa's wedding, Baby Dilly will be born....and by the time they air that baby's birth, you'll probably be announcing Jessa and Ben are expecting. But at least we know what's coming. God bless them all in their lives...

  54. I believe that being in People or US magazine is being in the world but not of it. Jesus went to where the sinners were out in the world, and the Duggars have been called to witness the way he did. God did not call them to preach to the choir, even though I'm sure glad they do once in awhile. :) They are not hiding their light under a bushel basket...they are right out in the fray. Praise God for this courageous family!

  56. So happy for the Duggar family and all the blessings that are being laid upon them. Glad to see that Jessa is interested in becoming a midwife. However, are midwives and birthing coaches that popular in todays world?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Midwives are very popular but most states regulate the practice and require nursing degrees and/or licensure to protect the public. I think that without a college degree most places only allow lay midwives, those without license and formal education, to work as assistants. I am not sure of Arkansas law but would hope that to be the case. Actual licensed midwives are in high demand for many reasons including a more personal birth experience. I used midwives that worked in the hospital. They could call in a physician if needed, but it allowed me to have the birth I wanted in the hospital. Also, in the hospital, even if you have a midwife you can still receive pain medications and epidurals. They support your decisions.

Not that single women can't long for and dream about meeting that special person, but we do need to be content where we are at the same time. I'm glad we've seen some joking about the single kids finding mates lately. Maybe people will back off on the speculation that JB is purposely keeping Jana and John-David from marriage. 69. @Anonymous September 29, 2014 at 2:18 PM The word purpose is both a noun and a verb, thus the Duggars do indeed use it correctly.

    noun
    1.
the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
"the purpose of the meeting is to appoint a trustee"

verb: purpose; 3rd person present: purposes; past tense: purposed; past participle: purposed; gerund or present participle: purposing
    1.
have as one's intention or objective.
"God has allowed suffering, even purposed it"

I guess this is why they had to do a post explaining how pregnancy works! :) I forget if it was in People or on the blog. Pregnancy weeks start counting the first day of your last menstrual cycle, which is actually about 2 weeks before you get pregnant, depending on when you ovulate. I can't imagine my life being scrutinized like this, God bless them!
