Derick Dillard's Dad

Derick Dillard's father, the late Rick W. Dillard, passed away in his sleep in 2008, when Derick was in college.

Derick and his parents are Oklahoma State University alums, and Rick and Derick both had the honor of wearing the Pistol Pete mascot during their years at OSU. Pistol Pete makes hundreds of appearances each year at various events, including athletic competitions, weddings, and funerals. The position is fulfilled on an interview basis.

  1. I know genuine reality is not always fully shown in 'reality television', but I have to say that the deep love and connection between you and Jill comes across very well. I can't imagine any father out there not being extremely proud of your relationship with Jill and I am sure your father would be no exception. Blessings and best wishes during the coming week as you, Jill and your families make final preparations for you wedding. May God bless your and Jill's marriage!

  2. It's a little Derrick! He's a cutie!
My dad went to Oklahoma state university too. I thought that was cool. Thank you for posting this!

  3. Aww RIP. I know you are in a great place up in heaven watching over everyone. He will especially look down on Saturday at Jill and Dericks wedding. God bless the Dillard's and Duggars

  4. Hi...do you know where Jill and Derick will live after they get married?

  5. Very sorry for the loss of his father. I assumed he had passed when he did not appear on the show but wasn't sure. Derick is a wonderful young man and I'm sure his father is a big reason for that.

  6. I don't know if this post came from the Duggars or you ladies, but I am so glad to see that this man is being acknowledged. I am also glad to see a jack-o-lantern in Derick's childhood. He didn't turn out against God acknowledging the ""good side" of Halloween. Derick certainly was a cute kid. I would like to know where they are now with their spiritual lifestyle and how this will affect Jill and her family. Is she going to have a conflict in not keeping toe to toe with her parents' beliefs? Is Derick now of Jill's lifestyle? Will they have a TV and actually watch it? Once again, I hope they will acknowledge this man at their wedding ceremony. Derick's mother certainly is a strong, capable woman who I already admire. She is lightyears head and shoulders above many who live a sheltered, non-challenged life. Thank you.

  8. He is SUCH a cute kid! And he looks a lot like his dad! So when did his mom re-marry?

And can anyone answer this--what ever happened with Amy and her country music career?

  9. What a handsome man Rick was. Derek must miss him so much. I am sure when Derek becomes a dad himself, he will always remember the times he had with his. On day you will reunite in heaven so just stay strong in your christian walk.

  11. They look so alike! You can tell they are father and son!!

I have lost my mum (10 years ago this year) so I feel for Derick, his brother and their mother and the sorrow they feel.

  12. Oh my goodness. How sad. I was wandering why he had a {"step father"} and thought that the Duggars probably wouldn't like it if his mom was divorced and remarried buy now I understand. Derick was such a cute little kid! Look at his little smile! ADORABLE!!!

  13. It's funny that Derick didn't change at all as he got older, he just got taller and his hair changed color!

  14. There have been some raised eyebrows on other websites regarding Jill and Derick's wedding registry items. There is a $2,400 riding lawn mower, high end items such as rifles, ammunition, and tents with camping equipment and many "wants" rather than "needs" to start a household. Ladies, if you know if this IS actually Derick and Jill's registry or not, please let us know. If it is a bad joke from her family, they should say so. It doesn't paint these two in a very good light.

  15. Derick appears to be a testament to his Dad; a young man with his head squarely on his shoulders! His Dad must have been a wonderful father.

  16. You can see the resemblance between Derick and his father. Both have good looks. Does anyone know where Derick and Jill are going on their honeymoon?

  17. I didn't loose a Dad but I lost my Mom when I was 7 16 years ago so I know the pain of loosing a parent so young. Derick was a cute little boy and now a great looking young man. I'm sure his Dad was a big influence in his life. May god bless Derick as he soon moves into this new phase of married life!

  18. Thanks for sharing this. I found an article that said Mr Dillard died of heart failure. I lost my husband about 8 months after. I too wonder when Cathy re-married and how that process went. I'm sure Jill and Derick are sorting out which family lifestyle would work better for them; probably a combination of sorts. I too hope she finishes her midwifery training soon.

  19. May he rest in peace. I'll add Rick Dillard to our memorial list and will pray for the repose of his soul. May God bless Derrick this Fathers' Day as he remembers his own dad! :)

BTW: Is Rick short for Derrick???

  21. Derrick looks cute in this photo with his dad. Sorry to hear now that his dad passed away while Derick was in college. I bet he was a good man and really inspired Derrick to be a good man that he is now. Can't wait for Jill and Derick's wedding on Saturday.

  22. I think we need to keep in mind that some things are simply none of our business. While I'm sure you all mean well, it is not our business of how Dericks father passed away, when his mum re-married, what would the Duggars would think if it turned out that Derick's mum got a divorce (which obviously we know that to not be the case) etc etc whilst yes the Duggars are in the limelight and Derick must have known this etc etc it doesn't mean that we need or have the right to know everything about each area of their lives.

  26. To the poster who asked if Derick was homeschooled, the picture above indicates that he went to a real school in a classroom with other kids... I'm so glad to see that.

  28. I am so sorry that Derick's Dad did not live to see his son's wedding. This family has suffered much tragedy, and now Derick's Mom Cathy is battling cancer. Praying for her healing, and that Derick and Jill's wedding will infuse some new life, hope, and joy into the situation. Cathy wept throughout Derick's preparation for his proposal to Jill, and in the Duggars' livingroom when the announcement was made to the family. She obviously has a very tender heart, and is looking forward to spoiling Jill!

  29. I adore the entire Duggar family and having Derick as an addition to the family makes it all the more special. If everyone lived with the kind of values that the Duggar family displays, the world would be a better place. What a wonderful example the Duggar children make to boys and girls of all ages; I certainly prefer the kind of example Jill and Derick showed for my 11 year old daughter. May God Bless them all. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  30. I am so happy to have found this photo! Its soooo cute! I really admire and like Derrick, he seems so genuine and sweet. Can't wait to see the wedding on tv...Jill's dress is gorgeous! So glad it wasn't as plain as Anna's dress, which she borrowed from her sister. So excited for both of them! Hope they enjoy the registry gift I got them!

  33. I think Jill and Derick will name their son Rick after Derick's father.

  34. So cute! Love the fact that Derrick loves his college as I do - huge GATOR fan / University of Florida here! Anna Duggar is from the area I live here in Florida and she and her family are Gator fans - they (I hear from the grapevine) have been fans since Danny Wuerffel was our Heisman winning qb in the 90's. He is such a strong Christian witness - as is our next Heisman winner, Tim Tebow!
