  2. I have had JOY memorized for a while now, and I even write it in one of the Sunday School rooms at my church when I am waiting for my mom to gather my siblings and leave. I also missed Church yesterday, so I thought I might as well watch this. I am very glad I did because Michelle and Jim Bob teach me a lot of things I can't learn from my parents on how to be a good and kind parent. When I grow up and have my own children, I hope these things that I've learned and put into practice (with my little neighbors) come out of me.

  5. My morning quiet time was Ephesians 5:1-15, being imitators of Christ. The first part of your interview touched right in the area I was studying. Thank you so much for putting yourselves out there to be a light in the world. I appreciate your family so much for being such encouragers and such a blessing to our home. We have 7 children (3 grown, 4 at home) and two babies made for Heaven. We love all of our children and are so blessed by them and are also blessed with a precious granddaughter. We want to be a godly influence in their lives and encourage them to walk with their Savior and be a light to others. Anyway, you have a big part in helping us to do that and we just have a great appreciation for you all. The Lord bless you and keep you!

  11. That was a great interview. Really good tips. Even potty training can be a sign of obedience. I can see why children raised this way would have less rebellion problems.

  14. This video is incredible...no matter where you are in your life you can change to be as humble and soft spoken as them. My children are all young adults now, great kids but I can tell you i have raised my voice many a time..I really wish i would have seen this couple prior to having my kids. I know I would have done a better and more conscious job in raising them. Thank God, my kids are wonderful and never gave me an ounce of trouble. Im sure my husband and i did something right but a soft voice, hmm, i lacked there..I can be a fiery italian girl very quickly. I love this couple and love that they share their wisdom with whom ever wants to listen.

    Thanks for sharing ladies..xooxo

  15. Most of this interview was excellent. The points I felt critical to raising children the Duggars' shared were: loving your children, being a family, father as the spiritual leader, the husband honoring his wife and the parents being on the same page.

  17. Lilly and Ellie, Thank you so much for posting this video. My oldest of 5 children is 8 and I was just sitting down to work on his schedule and just aching in my heart about all that I want to pass onto them and yet feeling so inadequate and stretched. The Lord used this interview to just re-focus my thoughts about our days, to encourage me to get that personal Bible time back into my schedule!, and to help me to see what wonderful things can be accomplished and put into motion during the little years I have right here in my home...so not to be discouraged but to, by God's grace, press on and trust Him to use us for His glory. Thank you to the Duggars for taking time out of your day to build us up and encourage us in our sacred calling as mommies and daddies.

  20. This video was so encouraging! I have 3 boys - 5 1/2, almost 4, and 9 months, and I am really starting to understand how important it is to praise so much more than we correct! However, I would LOVE to know how Jim Bob and Michelle handle willful disobedience, though! When you say, "Son, please come to me" and the child stares or runs the other direction or even looks at you and says, "No, I don't want to." My 4-year-old is quickly becoming that kid! I haven't seen anything on the show where the Duggars have dealt with this, but I need to know that I'm not alone in this, and I would love to know how Michelle manages these situations. Or a little one that repeatedly commits the same offense, over and over and over - what's the best way to handle this? I don't know if Michelle reads this or not, but ANY advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated! And thank you so much for this blog! I am always so uplifted by the posts. :)

Having seen almost every interview with Michelle, talked to her personally, read their books, seen every episode of their show and attended all of the same iblp seminars as they have, firstly I think Michelle would calmly go after the child, (walk, don't run. If you run they think it's a game. Only run if they are in danger) and once you have grabbed your child get down to their level and make sure you gain and keep eye contact with them. Then ask them if they think it was right to talk to mummy like that? Or run away from mummy when she called etc. Then if you still do not gain the child's attention I would give them a little smack on the bottom. And ask them again. Now a lot of people would probably disagree to a smack. But something like that needs to be handled with caution. NEVER smack if you can't get a grip on your own feelings and are at risk of losing your temper. It's better to ask them to go sit on the couch for a few minutes etc until you can get a grip. And secondly if the child ran off and was in danger (eg running towards a road etc, I would calmly smack the child without hesitation. It's better they get a little pain from a smack then get hit by a car. ) I know for a fact that the Duggars do smack. But because it is such a sensitive subject they avoid talking about it. They have trained their kids early and have 5 days a week to train their children without cameras there. To back up my claims watch 'Tea with Michelle Duggar' where she admits they practise 'hiblical chastisement' . And after a smack, always let the child come to you for a cuddle. They are at an age where they are seeing how far they can push the boundaries till they get in trouble.

    Hi Anonymous 16,

The Duggars do visit the blog. Anna told us about a time when she misplaced a family recipe and ended up turning to our blog for a copy.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  23. The duggars follow a philosophy of Heart orientated discipline which is layer out in Sheparding a Child's Heart and Don't Make Me Count to Three ...including very detailed descriptions on how and when and if to spank a child.

  24. Jim Bob and Michelle~
I admire SO MUCH your dedication, consistency, and LOVE for each other, for God, and for your children. I am a divorced mom of one child, he is 12 now, and he is a wonderful young man who loves the LORD. But there is extreme tension between his dad and I, and no matter how much I try to minimize the impact it has on him, I can see it affect his attitude, obedience, etc. He tends to get frustrated and angry very quickly, which unfortunately is a character trait in both his parents that is less than desirable. I have many many times had to apologize to him for speaking to harshly or letting my anger overtake me. We also live with my parents, which adds another "odd" dynamic to our family. I want him to be the young man that loves God and loves others, but I guess I'm just not exactly sure how to get him there. If you could speak to this I would be eternally grateful, for I respect and admire you greatly, and think God has given you the ability to be able to be the parents that you are so that you can help parents like me "parent better".
Thank you so much for everything you do, and everything you are in Christ.
    God bless~
