Interview with Josh Duggar

A recent guest on American Family Radio, Josh Duggar discussed his new life in Washington D.C., an upcoming event that he is attending (click here for details), and...cupcakes? Here's the recording:

  1. First of all, the two anchor men spent half of the interview chatting about DC Cupcakes! After that, Josh was vague on answering their questions. He should have cited specific issues. Josh commented that the VVS is affordable! Really? $99 and $50 for students; what's "affordable" about those prices? Especially for someone who was raised by a man who's mantra is: "buy used and save the difference!"!!! I think Josh needs to do some homework before his next interview.

  2. I would have LOVED to have heard a lot more from Josh about the work he is now doing there in DC and how is family is doing. Half the time spent by the anchors on talking about cupcakes? Sad.

  3. The Duggars do not have the knowledge to be able to speak about women in America that have abortions; children living in poverty in America; raising children alone; raising children yourself instead of having siblings help out; etc. Josh Duggar is a fish out of water. He was never allowed to listen to music other than his own families or a few families that mirrored his beliefs (don't listen to any other music except for me?). He was never allowed to watch television, except he is monetarily wealthy due to his own families TV show, which I have a total problem with (don't watch any other TV except for me?). I would admire this family except they are living in a closet of "I am superior to you and you don't belong in my closet."

    1. I disagree entirely with this comment, although I respect the right of "Anonymous" to express her opinions. The Duggers have chosen to live and adopt morals and norms that differ significantly from many other American families. This choice does not necessarily render them unable to understand the social issues of today's society; one does not have to be a single mother to understand and empathize with the challenges of her family and neither does a person need to live in poverty to recognize and, again, empathize with those in these desperate straits. I would argue, to the contrary, that the Duggers are actually more suited to understand these situations because they have chosen to live their lives helping others whenever the opportunity presents itself. Unlike many American families, they actively seek out others in these difficult situations to render what aid and support they can, and they encourage each child to adopt a lifelong "helping" mindset. They have structured their lives, and those of their children, to minimize the possibility that any one of them might find themselves facing the hardships of a life as a single mother, divorced father, drug abuser or welfare recipient, etc., and I think that they should be commended for this - and the strong example they set for others. They, however, force their lifestyle on no one else, but if others adopted even some of their habits, society would have fewer issues of this sort. How many Americans would be willing to forgo immediate gratification and instead save to buy desired items only with cash?

  4. @Gluten-I agree with many of your comments regarding the Duggar's choices. Yes, JimBob and Michelle have certainly structured their children's lives to isolate them from much of the main stream world. Some of that is for the better and will help keep their children safe from the evils of drug use, unmarried sexual activity, violence, undeage drinking and the like. However, when their children do become exposed to the many ills of society after they leave home ; will they be able to handle themselves successfully with this type of sheltering?

    1. Thats just it, the Duggar children are bein raised with the tools to combat worldliness. Look at those kids, are a single one of them lacking? No. Theyre well rounded, well adjusted, totally competent young men and women. Furthermore, they're not THAT sheltered. They make better choices because theyre taught to by involved parents. They do good in the world while other youth squander away their lives. The show is a tool for the Duggars to bring ministry and to lead by example on wholesomeness being the key to happiness. Youre attempts to fault find are contemptible.

  5. I'm fourteen yrs old and I was and am being raised the same way the duggars are now. A "sheltered life" if that's what you want to call it. And you know what? I know perfectly well what's going on in the world. It's right in front of me everyday. Sheltered, yes but still there. The Duggar kids are way older and going out into the world now. I'm sure they can see what's happening too. They will be able to handle themselves perfectly fine. Their parents ts have prepared them for it since they were born.

And the duggar girls are allowed to go out by themselves if they want to. They have said in the past that they do sometimes, but that it is much more fun to be at home with their family:-)

  6. @Anonymous August 13 7:59- Could you detail how Michelle and JimBob have prepared their children for going out in the world "since they were born"?

  7. Was this supposed to be an interview or a plug for DC Cupcakes? I bet we will see Josh, Anna and the kids going to visit DC Cupcakes on a future episode.

  8. Why don't the Duggers go to college?
