Season Finale Recap

Tonight on the season finale of 19 Kids and Counting, "Baby Gender Reveal & the Final Weigh In"...
  • Mackynzie tries to bribe Mr. Jim to reveal the gender of Anna's baby early, offering to give him her monkey. Mr. Jim won't budge.
  • One Sunday morning, the entire family visits Restoration Church, where Jim Bob and Josh's personal trainer attends. In cahoots with Jim, Pastor Howard reveals the gender of grand-Duggar #3 to the entire congregation. He ties the announcement into his sermon on family relationships: "I'm just so excited to let you in on our little secret, that you're having a baby boy," he tells Josh and Anna after calling them up to the front.
  • Anna says she would have been happy either way but was secretly hoping for a boy. She and Josh have chosen a name but are not announcing it.
  • The service is "peppier" than the Duggars' home church, by they enjoy seeing how other people worship the Lord. "We were definitely expecting it to be lively and just a different style of worship, and it was," says Jill.
  • Jim Bob, Michelle, Josh, and Anna meet with their doctor for the results of the weight-loss challenge. Josh is still overweight but is no longer considered obese. Jim Bob's health has also improved, but his triglycerides are still high. For both men, this is just the beginning of a long journey.
  • The day before Jim Bob and Josh's final workout, personal trainer Steve Conley gathers the family in the living Josh and divides them into two teams, with Grandma Duggar on Steve's team.

  • The final workout is an obstacle course. Most of the family gets away with fun tasks, like walking across balance beams, riding bikes, pushing utility vehicles, eating pickles, and changing doll diapers. Jim Bob and Josh have to race through a challenging course spanning across one acre.
  • At the end, Jim Bob grabs the flag at the top of the climbing wall seconds before Josh.
  • Then comes the final weigh-in. Jim Bob gets a four-pound weight advantage for winning the obstacle course, and Josh gets a four-pound weight advantage because the doctor says he has made the biggest improvement.
  • Jim Bob, who weighed 214 pounds at the beginning of the contest, ends at 194 (198 minus 4). Josh, with an initial weight of 224 pounds, ends at 198 (202 minus 4).
  • "Words can't describe how proud I am of both of you to see that you did great on this weight-loss challenge," says Steve. "I have one more surprise that you need to watch out for." At that moment, John-David and Joseph sneak up from behind and pour coolers of ice-cold sports drink on Jim Bob and Josh.
  • As punishment, Josh makes breakfast in bed for Jim Bob. He prepares toast, turkey bacon, eggs, and a smoothie. "I tried to make sure that I didn't load up on any butter or anything like that," says Josh. "I gave him dry toast, you know, so it wasn't that bad."
  • "Josh is a good cook, and he can really surprise me because there's a lot of things I just didn't know he knew how to make," says Anna.
  • Jordyn and Josie wander into the kitchen and sweet-talk Josh into making breakfast for them. The two girls and Josh carry a tray up to Jim Bob, who is fast asleep. "Josh fixed a wonderful breakfast," says the dad of 19.
  • Both Jim Bob and Josh plan to continue losing weight by eating healthy and exercising regularly.
  • At the end of the show, Josh and Anna gather the family to make a big announcement. After much prayer and wise counsel, they have decided to accept the job that Josh was offered and move to Washington D.C.
  • "Arkansas is home for me," says Josh. "I really have no desire to move away, but sometimes when you have opportunities, you have to go out and seek them."
  • "I'm happy for them," says Jessa. "But at the same time it's really sad because we're all so close."
  • "Michelle and I have dedicated our children to the Lord from the time that they were small, and our goal is for each one of them to follow where the Lord leads them, and if He leads them away from our area and we just see them once in a while, then that's the way it's meant to be," says Jim Bob.

    1. I think its because the duggars do not like to dance, so I think they felt a little out of their element. I think its a shame that some of their beliefs keep them from experiencing things.

  4. I totally agree with the first comment. I think as the children grow up and leave home, God will teach them that the only way to worship and path to Him and His kingdom is not the Duggar way or the highway. I think Josh and Anna and John David already get that.

  5. And I wish Jim Bob and Michelle would realize all of life is different seasons and to stop being so obviously jealous of their son for having children, but that Jim Bob and Michelle come to accept that their life now is welcoming grandchildren in this season of their life. Will Jim Bob and Michelle be Grandma Duggar's age still pining to give birth to an infant and jealous of their own children? It seems so.

  9. I cried when Josh and Anna said they were moving even though I knew it was coming. I am sure the Lord has a great purpose for them in D.C. though.

  11. They looked very uncomfortable at the new church. The kids with their fingers in their ears was rude and I was embarrassed for them. It just so how out of touch they really are with the real world.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Anonymousit's not that they were unhappy. The style of worship was extremely different from the one they are used to.

  13. Josh accepts??? Wow! It is a great opportunity, but I didn't know that they would sacrifice their support network. The word of the Lord says however, "do not worry about anything, but in everything through prayer ans petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made." So the Lord will give them a new support network in His own time. Hopefully that is soon and they settle well. I know a little of what they went through. I moved states as well recently and am still trying to make friends...(I take long to make friends), so really trying to get out of my comfort zone and socialise and be more friendly towards others so that I can have my own support network :) Wish Josh and Anna and family all the best - send my love and prayers <3

  14. That's so true. ESP when one of the little boys covered there ears that was rude.some of them were into the service Michelle once said churches worship different music she should've said they play a different type of music.no one worships music. They should've at least put on a smile most of them had bad looks on they face.other than that it was a great episode

  16. The Duggars looked scared when they were in the church, especially when they were singing and dancing. i personally thought it was disrespectful to feel the need to have the pastor announce the gender of Josh and Anna's baby in a church they were visiting for the first time. But the Duggars always seem to feel the need to be the center of attention wherever they go.

  17. It was a very good show list night. I am going to miss them till they come back on. hope you keep us updated on what they are up to.

  18. I agree with the first comment. The little kids looked miserable but at least Josh, Jill and a few of the older ones seemed very open. It did look like a few of them were uncomfortable. I thought it was because of the type of music played and the dancing. Bill Gothard teaches against this so maybe they were unsure how to respond.

  24. My favorite moment last night was the expression on the faces of the older girls when Steve announced his plans for the great race, gentle Jana's expression was especially priceless. I love these young women and admire their poise and grace in every situation. Really the entire family, right down to the yongest is very gracious. So nice to see Jim Bob and Josh looking so fit.

  30. What is Josh's new job and is he selling his carlot?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow I think Josh is in for a total culture shock moving from a small town in Northwest Arkansas to Washington DC. Wish him the best of luck!
I loved the family competition of this episode. Watching Joy and Josiah eating the pickles was too good!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Our family is very disappointed that Josh has decided to move to of all places DC the quality of live there is nothing like the life they all have in Arkansas. Taking beautiful sweet Anna to DC is very scary to us.
God has wonderful ways of working things out. We pray this is God,s will.
The Duggars have lost something really special in moving their extended family. Why would Ann,a parents want her to leave Arkansas.
God,s Blessings to all the Duggars.
We are praying Josh will change his mind and stay in Arkansas.

  33. I'm guessing they were quite out of their comfort zone during the worship time. I think they were very gracious. They likely didn't know the songs, and didn't know how to fit in. Josh seemed enthusiastic.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And I'm so sad that this is the end of the season! Do you think they will do another special when the new baby arrives? Or do we have to wait until August or something for that?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Are Josh and Anna still going to be on the show even after they move? Will they do a special after Anna has baby #3?

  36. It is sad to see Josh and Anna move!

  37. Ugh! Wasn't impressed with the music. I'd look pretty unhappy too. And compared to the other gender reveals, I felt a little let down by this one. Didnt think it was particularly exciting. And considering they already revealed the gender before this episode went o air spoilt the whole thing for the viewer.

  38. I love this family! And they are always having fun as a family. Cannot wait until a new season starts!

  46. For those that asked where Josh will be working; he will be employed by the FRC (not sure what his responsibilities will be).

I strongly believe Michelle and JimBob need to talk with their children prior to attending any event that is different from their beliefs or lifestyle. Clearly explain to them what to expect and to behave properly. They certainly were not "Christian-like" at their friends' church! With the exception of Josh and Jill; the others were rude. We have seem similar facial reactions in the past.

  47. I was shocked to see that they decided to move to D.C. But good for them!! I now see them moving and stop having any more kids now with the pressure from the Tv show off of them. Now they can be closer to me haha! ;)

    1. I hope not.I am growing tired of the Duggers. They seem to be a nice family but 9 years should be enough.

  49. I thought the Duggars were polite and very respectful at the church they were visiting. I'm pretty sure no one there expected them to be jumping and dancing during the music, they went because they were asked and were not in their comfort zone. I think people are way over reacting because when someone is hidden behind a computer screen they feel they have the right to say whatever they want no matter how hurtful. As far as the "built in babysitter" comment, who said she meant the older girls? and if she did, what's wrong with that? they are the kids aunts who live close by and willing to babysit. Not a big deal. I enjoy reading the posts here. I am a fan of the family and get so annoyed reading hate on here or comments from those who think they are so much better than everyone else. Would you treat a fellow brother or sister in Christ in real life the way you do online? Doubtful so why act this way just because no one can see you?

    ReplyDelete
  50. what kind of job did he get??? and I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO BE ONLINE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I enjoyed the show and the church service. Michelle says they prepare their children for various situations. I think the younger children needed to be told that the music would be loud and that people would raise their hands and dance. Participating would have been the proper thing to do.

If Josh and Anna prayed and believe that God wants them in DC, then He will provide. As having lived in DC for years, I hope they realize that the cost of a home in DC like they have now would be around $400,000. My family bought a home in DC years ago and sold it for over ten times the price we paid. Very high cost of living.

    ReplyDelete
  52. if anyone knows I would love to know what his new job is. I wonder what will happen to the car lot? I think it would be great if one of the younger boys could take it over

  53. Eventhou i really love watching the duggars i found many things very weird about this last episode:
    - The Duggars think, they would show how open they are by going with everyone like visiting that church. I didnt like the music in the church neither but it looked really weird how they all stood their and tell you afterwards " we had such a fun time"..

    - It is weird for me that Josh and Anna are moving especially with 3 little kids... It doesnt seem as if Anna would do anything else then the household, the kids and hanging out with the duggar family. So in D.c. its only household and kids..

-Whats job did Josh accept.. I wonder who offers a job offer form so far away when josh doesnt have any special skills from university

    - I didnt like how the family split up emotionally while they did the weight loss competition. josh was a bad looser and did such a bad breakfast that he did not even bring.. i found that really weird how he made the breakfast, his mood..

    - it is weird to present the gender of the baby to everyone in a new church. And i did not find it a big surprise compared to the other ways of revealing the gender in the past. Anyway i am not a big fan of this big gender revealing thing. I wonder why they all are so touched and emotional about the revealing that it is a boy... I mean boy or girl doesnt matter the happy thing is, its a baby and that was nothing new.. so why do tehy freak out about hearing its a boy.. i found that really weird.

Still I love watching the duggars.. i hope there are more seasons coming..

So try those things good luck to u

  56. DC is a great place to live; it's not as hectic as NYC, more quiet lifestyle, but still a lot of culture. I wonder where Josh&Anna will choose to live, in suburbs or close to his work. It also will be great for some siblings to come and stay, babysit. This way they will help and also will enjoy DC for themselves. Great opportunity for Josh, if he wants to get some education - he can take classes from several universities in DC area.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The car lot has been having a big sale on all inventory(with nothing new for a few months) so I wonder if it will stay open. Jim Bob has had a car lot for years so you think he could take over for a bit & then pass it on to another son. there are so many Duggar boys finishing homeschool studies, I'm sure one of them might be interested.
Josh is going to work for the family research council. I think someday he seems like he might want to run for office like his dad so this job will give him experience in DC if he wants to run someday. It would be neat to see him win the senate seat his father lost.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't mean to be negative, but Josh and Anna are in for a rude awakening. I lived in DC for almost a year and I was miserable. Everything is expensive, the traffic is horrible (not to mention you have to pay to park everywhere), and you are living pretty much on top of your neighbors. Also, if the rumors are true that Josh is going to work for the Family Research Council, then I am disappointed that they are aligning themselves with such a controversial organization that doesn't preach the tolerance that I have always admired about Duggars.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I love the Duggars they are a huge inspiration in my life. I KNOW, I have become a better person just by following their example. I hope and pray to meet them in person someday. When my husband and I start having children we plan to use the ATI homeschooling curriculum the Duggars use. Yes, I am currently a teacher but, I still believe the best place to educate is in the home. Out of curiosity sake...with Josh and Anna in DC and the rest of the Duggars are in NW Arkansas...how will taping of the show happen....will TLC film at both places now????

  60. I'm suprised Jim Bob won. Well, basically Josh lost more pounds but he weighed more. So basically it was even

  61. When is the new season Lilly and Ellie?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am very excited for Josh and Anna to be moving to such an amazing city. However, I honestly cannot see it working out. I think that it may be too much of a culture shock for them and that they will miss everybody back home too much.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I just love the Duggars! I've read the good and the bad from many posts on numerous sites, but none of the bad has swayed me to think of anything but good thoughts for this family. Am saddened the season has ended but they may need a break from filming for non TV family time...I am a DC native and live in MD, greatly looking forward to knowing what area Josh & Anna decide to settle down as there are some very nice suburban neighborhoods. Kinda neat, my husband is from the same area Anna lived most of her childhood and now they are moving to the area I spent most of my childhood! With such garbage on TV it is refreshing to see a wholesome sweet loving family.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Family Research Council is located in downtown DC, and I doubt that John&Anna will live close by, because they would have to live in an apartment. I'm curious if they rent a house or will buy a house. It's quite expensive housing in DC. I don't think they are making a lot at the car lot. And they would not sell their current house, because it is family house, something which went to John from grandparents; not really his own property. I'm not sure if the salary would cover a new house, a wife, who does not work, and 3 kids. I hope they have friends in DC to advise them where to settle, because it could be quite a hassle. Especially if they want to use those "built-in-babysitters", so they would need some place for them to stay...

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm curious if any of the Duggar kids have an interest in going to college. Girls seem to be meant to stay at home and do some online studies at most; Josh just has this car lot; John-David has a towing company. The younger boys seems to be quite smart, I wonder if they would want to pursue some college studies. If JOsh moves to DC, it might be even beneficial for younger kids to come and visit and maybe take some college for a semester. Hope they are not getting lost in DC. Maybe Jinger can move and have her coffee :).
