Duggars' Butterscotch Brownies

Butterscotch brownies...without butterscotch? The Duggars claim that these brownies taste like butterscotch without actually adding any. But don't take their word for it; try them out for yourself.

Duggars' Butterscotch Brownies

Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar, or sucanat*
1/4 cup oil (3T. olive oil)
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions:
1. Mix together first four ingredients.
2. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. (If using sucanat, add 2 teaspoons water.)
3. Spread into greased 8”x8” baking dis.
4. Bake at 350 for approximately 20 min. Do not over bake. 

*Sucanat is a type of unrefined cane sugar that is believed to be a healthier alternative to conventional sugar.

  8. My Grandma made these brownies. She was allergic to chocolate and these were her substitute. I loved them! I always think of grandma when I smell them baking.
