Duggar Christmas: Love in Action

How does the Duggar family celebrate Christmas? In our home, the focus of the season is not on getting, but on what we can give to the less fortunate, writes Michelle in her latest Parentables post.

After Thanksgiving, the family decorates the house with lights, greenery, a nativity scene, and a sign that reads "Happy Birthday, Jesus." Although they do exchange presents, Jim Bob and Michelle emphasize the importance of serving others.

During the Christmas season, the Duggars volunteer at soup kitchens and deliver cookies to their local police and fire departments. They also take an annual mission trip to El Salvador, bringing Christmas gifts to children in remote villages.

Every year, the Duggar kids, wrapped in sheets, create a live nativity scene on their front porch and reenact the first Christmas. Baby Jesus is usually a baby doll, but sometimes the part would go to a family member if we had any babies in the house at the time. It’s such a special time and we’ve made great memories.
