Tour the Duggar Home

In January 2006, the Duggars moved into their spacious, 7,000 square-foot home. With guidance from Clark Wilson, a carpenter and close friend, the entire family was involved in the construction process. From the laying of the foundation to move-in day, the project took the Herd of Turtles (aka H.O.T. Crew) almost four years. What did the house look like soon after it was built? Take a look at these photos!

I like the prayer closet--what a nice little space!

This house is amazing considering they built it themselves.
I love the living area and the girls' room. The designer did a great job with the artwork on the girls' room walls.

I like the industrial kitchen and the huge pantry. It's interesting that they can just back up their vehicle to the pantry, roll up the door and unload. Very efficient.

One thing I wish they had is a library room. I never see too many books. I don't see bookcases in the bedrooms and I never see many books at all. I know they read, but it does not seem that they read a wide variety of literature such as classics, historical fiction or magazines.

Good observation Lucy, i wonder where the books are? I have more books than they have square footage. Lol

Love Lucy's idea of a library. That would definitely be included in my dream home. :D

Such a perfect world the Duggar family lives in...nary an angry word; nary discordance; God has made the Duggar compound a place for the rest of us to envision as Heaven. Mama always talks in baby talk and never "loses it." Daddy is a perfect person. Kids never argue. What else is missing to not make this compound Heaven on Earth? ANSWER: THE REAL WORLD. If you believe Michelle always talks in baby talk and Jim Bob never loses his temper and the kids always get along, please let me sell you some land in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

I think the Duggars need to take about 6 months to honestly study the Bible deeply--very deeply--about honesty, truthfulness, and deception. "TV not allowed?" Well, cell towers, towing companies, selling used cars, and real estate didn't buy what they have. I am not arguing with or against what they have--I applaud them if they make $100 million. What I am against is that they are flat out liars. Just flat out liars. God will call them to justice for their lies. And, yes, the show is lies that they are "perfect" people. All of us are sinners and fall short of the glory of God...but not the Duggars to hear them tell it and watch it. I disagree...I call it a sin and narcissistic to disallow TV except for your own show. Yes, that is now I would describe the Duggars...narcissistic...not Holy.

Those photos are old, I'd like to see new ones, like what the bedding configuration is like in the girls room? Now that there are 3 maybe 4 extra girls in there. Where are their beds?

Anonymous said...

The Duggar's are perfect people and the whole family is without sin and anyone that disagrees is evil. God sent them here as an example of perfect parents and perfect children and they can do no wrong.

Ilove the prayer closet! That's just such a great idea!!! And yes, I'd like to see where they put there books, they must have them...they mention it in their show...so it would be nice to see the kind of books they read!

I Like the laundry room. Wouldn't we all like the space in this area? We are in an apartment building and have very little space. However, my second favorite is the the prayer closet.

You are entitled to your opinion, but the Duggars aren't against TV. They are against what is shown on TV. They do watch wholesome television shows on DVD. There is a lot of inappropriate media out there, and they are simply guarding their hearts and minds.

I think it is worse for you to be judging good families that follow Gods word, then what you say they are doing wrong! The Duggars are not perfect, but believe me, they are very godly! God sees' their hearts, and he knows what kind of people they really are. There is no need for us in-perfect humans to be doing the job of a perfect God. It is his job to judge them, not mine or yours, or anyone else's! If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all!

The front page of this blog says, "Thank you for being kind and respecting others' beliefs"; the comments page says, "we will not post anything that is profane, derogatory, or in poor taste".

Have these boundaries been removed?

Hi Lisa,

Those boundaries have not been removed.

I like the prayer closet. Such a nice little space to just go and talk to Our Father. I really like the Girls room to. The artwork on the walls is outstanding.

I love the playroom and the prayer closet! Its nice to have a place in your house to pray and read the bible! I love the girls room as well!

I like looking at the pictures, but the part I never get is where in the house is the spiral staircase? You always see them on it, but never where in the house it is.

Lily and Ellie said...

Hi Anonymous! (at 7:42 PM)

The spiral staircase goes from the Duggars' commercial kitchen up to a foyer that is outside the master suite, prayer closet, and girls' room.

Hey there. I have written the Duggars via US postal mail twice in the last 5-6 months and have not received a reply. Do you have any idea on why they arent responding? I have a friend who wrote them before I did and she got a response within a month. Thanks!

Lily and Ellie said...

Hi Anonymous! (at 9:36 AM)

Due to the high volume of emails and letters that they receive, the Duggars are unable to answer every person. But they do "pray for the needs that are presented and collect questions people ask to answer on [their] website."

Thanks for reading!

I'd have to say the prayer closet too; I'd like one in our home! xo

I'm all for large families, and large homes, so the house tour was interesting to me. I wondered--as others have--where the library is, where the books are. And, to go along with the books, some cozy private corners. It's fine to have all the girls and all the boys share those lovely big bedrooms--but I think there needs also to be small spaces (besides the prayer closet) where kids can be alone (with a book or toy) for private play.

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous You are absolutely wrong. Time and time again the Duggar's profess they are not perfect, nor ever will be. I don't think you should be calling them liars, you obviously don't know them personally. Why would a perfect person need a prayer room? Perfect people do everything right, and would need no help from God. Who cares if they don't allow TV. Whatever they feel will keep their kids away from the sins and influence of the world, then so be it. An example many of us can find as useful.

Hi Lily and Ellie:

I was wondering if you could do a new more in depth tour of the Duggars home. I am really interested in some of the spaces that we don't see as much on the show such as, the tunnel connecting the playroom to the boys room and the other rooms in the house that aren't mentioned. I was also wondering, if their house is so big, why do all the girls and all th boys have to share a room? Why can't some of the children have their own rooms?
Thanks for your wonderful blog and all that you do!!

I love the prayer closet. Though I must admit I'd love to have their kitchen :)))

Baby talk? It is called a quiet and gentle spirit. When you draw near to God and are in awe of His presence you are humbled. Yes humbled beyond measure. I am not yet there myself. But I have been drawing closer to God since I had my first baby three years ago and there is a significant change in me. People look at me and wonder. I do not loose it like before. Michelle you inspire me. The world celebrates feminism so when a woman stand for her rights and argues like a man that is the woman to admire. What does God say. Peter admonished women to have a quiet and a gentle spirit. I guess this was written for women in a time like this civilization.

I am Kenyan. So my world view is different from you people. I love the Duggar family not because the family is large, that's common here. Oh we are catching up with Americans too, people are starting to frown on Duggar like families here.

Why I love the Duggar family. They love God, they love their children. Mom and Dad love each otherand are still married. It'a pity to frown on a family that's morally upright yet you live in a country that has highest cases of divorce, broken families, not to mention children and adults living with scars of abuse from such homes. Need I talk about homosexuality? Duggars keep up the good work. You give me hope in this fallen world. I see how your children have turned out and I am like yes I can too

We should not judge others. When I watch the show I do not see perfect people and do not believe they pretend to be perfect I have even heard Michelle say they are not perfect. I find it amazing how they set such a great example for unbelievers and believes on how to never give up on following God. They are a loving family and it is awesome to finally have a God fearing family on tv. They need our support and maybe there will be more shows being put on TV showing the love and peace he us his people. And show everyone that like the Duggars no one is perfect a all fall short of his glory. Through there tears and happiness you can still see Gods love in them and that is the blessing the duggars bring to tlc. Be blessed

Just want to say I love the values The Duggars instill in their children, I do love their home my favorite room is probably the family room and kitchen.

Shirley said...

In an earlier episode, where they move into the home, the children explain that they wanted to share their rooms with their brothers and sisters. In other episodes they have shown areas in the home where the books, school work, etc are stored. You also often see different children reading throughout the home.

So after reading your post I am not sure what you are calling the Duggers liars about? Just to let you know I do not allow my children to watch TV either. Since we do not watch TV we also do not watch the Duggers, although wholesome TV would be a nice change from the usual provided. SO please tell me what you feel they are lying about, please leave your emotions out of your reply as I believe this prevents you from writing clearly and I want to understand where you are coming from.

Wendy said...

@Anonymous
I don't think the Duggers are looking at others to think they are perfect. I find your comment perhaps is some relfection of your own insecurity and guilt....not the Duggers.

Hi Jamie,

Grandma's room is in the far right corner of the house when you are standing at the front door and looking in. The door to her room is located at the back of the laundry room.
