A Blog About the Duggar Family
By Lily and Ellie
In watching the video it kinda seemed like they (either Ann or the broadcast) were trying to say "Duggars don't put yourselves and Michelle at risk anymore. Stop having babies!"But you know, "Only God knows." Even biblically he "closed the womb" of several women (Sarah and Rachel, to name a few) and there is also menopause, which in it's due time will also befall Michelle. I admire their family and the way the parents are raising their family. If only all families could live up to such standards, Christian or not. God Bless You Duggars!
Michelle, my prayers are with you and your family! Women have had babies in their 50s and 60s. I think you are a blessed women to keep having children, God willing. I haven't had children so I don't know what this is like, but my empathy is with you.
Everything I have read and heard says that this is most likely due to a chromosomal issue with the baby which might or might not be related to her age. Some, like trisomys, are not really age related, others like down syndrome are more age-related, but even then, this is no guarantee. Women in their teens and twenties have babies with chromosomal disorders or still-births. I will continue to pray for them!
Duggar Family,I just found out about Michelle's recent miscarriage. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.I watch your program from time to time on TLC and always enjoy seeing how your children interact with each other and when you are out an about.I know that some people are very negative about your situation, but mostly I think they are ignorant of the values and morals you seek to instill in your children. In our society, there are so many who do not even take the time to care for one child, much less multiple children. I commend you on your commitment to God and to family.I am from a single parent family of seven where there were 14 years between my twin and I and the rest of our family. We were fortunate to have all of our nieces and nephews to grow up with and we had a ball when everyone was together. It made me want to have a big family...something which was not in God's plan for me. I also want to thank you for being willing to be out there, negative comments or not, and to stand up for your faith. I have no doubt that God is and will use you to plant seeds that will grow in the lives of individuals whose hearts are open to the Gospel message.Blessings to you and yours!
Thank you for showing this. It DOES look like Ann is trying to get this doctor to advise Jimbob and Michelle to do something to stop having babies, but the doctor simply says it's "something to think about". Interesting to show both sides. Continued prayers for this family, and that this baby comes out soon if it hasn't already.
Ann Curry so clearly thinks Michelle is crazy for giving God control. It's annoying when people can't get past their own beliefs and just let Jim Bob & Michelle do what they believe is best with their family. We have no right to tell someone how big or small their family should be.
I think that what I've seen from this video, that they were trying to imply that Michelle should stop having children. What I want to say is that the Duggars have been guest many times on the today show for the today show to be coming out with this garbage. Also wanted to say that yes maybe as you get older you have more risk but it's really up to the person themselve and God to decided how many children they will/can have. No one is God to judge the Duggar family. I had my 1st child at 17 and then my second at 21 yrs old and I had gestational diabetes with both of my pergnancies, also had anemia with my second, so really any age can have complications. They really need to stop trying to make Michelle look bad. Things like this makes me angry. This world is so sad because of people like these. God continue to bless the Duggar family.
I believe that Michelle is very strong and will follow God's leading--not man's. Michelle has not walked according to her own thoughts, she has obeyed God in her life. God will not leave her nor forsake her as she continues to trust Him with her life and His choices for her. If God wants Michelle to have additional children, Michelle will be blessed by God's hand as she continues to trust Him and keep her eyes on Him. God bless you Michelle and JimBob--and all of your children and grandchildren! Continue to listen to your Lord!
Prayers going out to the Duggar family. May God heal your hearts.http://www.debsmizzoucrew.com
I agree with them somewhat but having a baby at any age is risky!Sometimes it has to do with age but it could be numbers of other reasons for a pregnancy to go so very wrong other then being over a certain age!
I found it in very poor taste for the Today Show to announce Mrs. Duggar's unborn baby's death and then follow it up with a segment about how risky it was for her to get pregnant in the first place and then imply that it would be a bad idea to get pregnant again. It would have been much nicer and kinder to simply say "We are so sorry to hear of your baby's death and our thoughts/prayers are with you." sigh. But they must be critical, I guess. At least of people that put their faith in God. :(
Do you know what the Duggars are doing for Christmas?
I am very sorry for your loss. However, after watching your show for the past few years, I see that Michelle does nothing really around the house except take care of the newest baby that arrives. Her daughters do EVERYTHING. I feel that is wrong!!!!! And what about adoption. There are over 147 million orphans, maybe it's time to think about children already in the world who need a family. You do all these trips, make all this kind of money, shouldn't you serve and care for the orphans and widows as is commanded in the Bible if you are Christians?
I think Ann just doesn't 'understand' what it means to follow God and let HIM decide! As for miscarriages over 40: yes, there's every chance...but miscarriages happen at ALL ages, a friend of mine had 5 miscarriages before she was 24 and only carried a baby full-term aged 25! Another friend had her 7th baby aged 43, but her 6th baby died aged 5 weeks due to trisomy 18 syndrome. On the other hand, my grandmother's both had healthy babies in their late 40s (my mothers mom was 48 when she had her 7th daughter!) I think Michelle is very healthy, and probably fitter than most 30-year-olds, so this was probably a chromosome problem, and if God grants it she may have a healthy baby next time. Either way, she chooses life and is willing to be open to God's blessings and I admire her for that!
Thank you anonymous. I'm expecting my 3rd baby in the spring and am conflicted and offended when asked if we are done. As scary as it can be to trust Gods plan, I like your reminder about God deciding when we are done and hope to use that response.
The Lord brings this scripture to my heart when I watch this:Psalm 108:12Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.Meaning... no doctor/specialist/human being can tell us what is best for us, only the Lord can. Not that God can't speak through them but God has already spoken to the Duggars on this area of their life so any other outside opinions or "facts" do not matter.Proverbs 21:30There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD.The Duggars will get through this difficulty the same way they always have... by leaning on the Lord who will (and always has) sustained them. It is why so many people are drawn to them. They sense Jesus in them (whether they realize it or not). Without their faith in Christ, they would not be the loving, caring, and amazing people they are today.
I think that Ann was trying to get information, not tell Michelle what to do. They made good points: 1. older mother pregnancies do have higher risks of some problems 2. once there is preeclampsia there is higher future risk (not that it will happen, just more risk)and 3. that having had 19 children is Not a risk factor. The doctor gave wise counsel for all older mothers, "think about it" which I am sure older parents do. The advice: "older women can have babies there is just more risk" is more likely directed to the friends, family and others who have set opinions. It is interesting that we interpret this as criticizing Michelle instead of viewing it as concern (even loving concern) for her. It is similar to someone advising a friend to avoid a dangerous career -- not that they can't do it or shouldn't do it, but rather that we don't want them to have to suffer pain that might result from their decision. I think that is where Ann is coming from too.
Ann mentioned herself that she had pre eclamsia With her first pregnancy and ultimately she decided to have a second child, I'm sure her doctor advised her of the risks as well. Like alot of you mentioned above there is possibility at any age of child bearing that complications can arise. I do not think age should stop a mother from having more children, it didn't stop Sarah and Abraham and they were way older than Michelle! God spoke to the Duggars to not take birth control and to trust Him for the amount of children they would have and that's what they are doing. It takes some strong faith to trust Gods word in the face of such a moraless generation.
I have a response to the anonymous commenter who believes Michelle doesn't do enough to contribute to their household. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I am not saying this to criticize you, but I don't think you can make that judgment based on the television show alone. I own the first 4 seasons on DVD, and I got out season 4, just to look at the numbers. This 4-disc set provides 18 and 1/2 hours of viewing of time, and covers the broadcasting days of December 23, 2009 through November 30, 2010, a period of about 49 weeks. This means that, on average, every 2 and 1/2 weeks, viewers were allowed a 30-minute peek into the Duggars' lives. Not all of this footage included Michelle, by the way.
I just realized that I made a mistake in my previous post. The season 4 DVD set provide 15 and 1/2 hours of viewing - not 18 an 1/2. This averages out to about 30 minutes of broadcast every 3 weeks.
I hardly read any of the comments but saw the last person trying to defend Michelle with a commenter saying that not enough was being done. I find it very interesting that anyone would every feel that they have validity in their "ideas" of "how much" another person "should be" doing. It is also important to remember that homeschooling parents devote more time to their children since they are with them all the time.
Michelle, I applaud you for being able to live in the public light while dealing with this. I honestly think the media needs to stay out of this. It is none of their (or our) business for that matter. Praying for your heart and your families heart. Losing babies is so hard whether at 6 weeks or 41 weeks (been in both situations). And pray that God's guidance is clear for you guys and you are able to stay strong against those that don't understand.
give it up already..this was a sign - U NEED TO STOP HAVING CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a miscarriage at about the same stage as this baby and it was very devastating. It was my 5th pregnancy & 2nd miscarriage. God blessed us with 2 more healthy pregnancy's, giving us 5 healthy children. I was 20 when I had my 1st baby & 34 when I gave birth to my youngest son, and I was 25 when I had my 1st miscarraige @ about 7 weeks (#2 PG), & 31 when I had the 2nd miscarriage @ about 16 wks (#5 PG). Because I was in the 2nd trimester with the 2nd one, they did several tests on our baby and myself, but found no probable cause & said, "sometimes we just never know". That being said, scripture says that God knows what His plans are for us...so, we have to accept it as part of His plan and look forward to seeing them once again when we get to heaven. As to how many to have and when we should stop--God knows His plans for that as well, and we have to trust him. As someone else said, Michelle will probably be going thru menopause sometime soon and the babies will stop. God WILL let them know when that time comes...
I am glad Michelle is living it up to God on how many kids she chooses to have and that she trusts the Lord with all her heart! She is such a good mom and loves her kids to death!Respect the Michelle and her family because this is a bad time for them!
It's interesting to me that the media is forever talking about the risks of having so many babies, but they never talk about all the health benefits. Michelle's chances of breast cancer, cervical cancer, or any other reproductive cancer are so slim as a result of so many births and years of breastfeeding. Gee, I wonder why they never mention that?
We are really encouraged by your family
@AnonymousYou have your opinion and Michelle Duggar has her's and with all love and respect keep your mouth shut! You could put it in nicer terms if not don't post it at all!
If Michelle wants more children I say knock herself out. I respect Jim Bob and Michele's opinion and they wouldn't want to hurt their family anymore than what they have. (not saying it was her fault God's in control!) But, I could never have alot of kids, just sayin one or none LOL!
